The official WWE WrestleMania XX opinions thread

My match ratings:

-Cena pins Show, eh, fun but pretty bad. *1/2

-Raw 4 way tag won by RVD and Booker, terrible, slow, DUD

-Christian pins Jericho, basic stuff but solid, really dug Trish turning on Jericho, **1/4

-Evolution over Rock n Sock, bad match, I hate Foley so was happy to see Orton win, *

-Playboy match won by Torrie/Sable, was what it was, no rating

-Chavo wins Cruiserweight match, way too short, everything was so short and basic, *

-Goldberg over Lesnar, way too much stalling, Lesnar getting pissed at the crowd at the end was good, *

-Smackdown 4 way won by 2 Cool, same as Raw, DUD

-Victoria over Molly, too short, Molly bald is BAD, 1/4*

-Guerrero over Angle, it was OK, like they worked the first 20 minutes of a 35 minute match, didn't really like the ending, **1/4

-Undertaker over Kane, HATED Taker coming back as BikerTaker, HATED it, shitty match to boot, DUD

-Benoit beats HHH and HBK, pretty bad match, loved Benoit winning, anyone noticed HBK chopping Benoit and the crowd booing him like crazy, then Benoit chopping him and the crowd going nuts? Go Benoit, **1/2

-Overall: BAD show

Dude, just quit watching. Bust out your puro collection or something.

I LOVED this show. I can see many people's points and there were some disappointments, but it was nowhere near that bad.

I hope you're talking to me or else me replying is pretty embarassing, so:

Yes, it was that bad. Except Christian/Jericho...I may have underrated that. Everything else though, meh.

Puro has nothing to do with this. I just plain did not like the show. I went in expecting big things from Eddie/Angle and at least passable from everything else. Didn't get it.

That right there is someone that's TOO cynical.

I may be biased because I was at the show, but I thought it was damn good...hell, I even liked almost all the "dull" matches (the only good thing about the Playboy match was the eye candy...that's it)

 I'm not cynical. I went in excited for the show. I was let down by a shitty show. Hey, I'm superglad Benoit won, I was jumping around giggling, but that doesn't mean the match was great.

Lemme see:

Cena/Big Show: Pretty good choice for opener, though I am surprised the cruiserweight match didn't open. Cena was over like a mofo. Funny ending, with Cena looking like a car ran over his puppy after Big Show kicked out of the F-U.

Raw Tag Match: Meh. Nothing bad, nothing good, just meh. The new mix of the Booker/RVD music sucks, though. Stick with seperate entrances, boys.

Christian/Jericho: I liked this match alot. I would say it was probably Christian's best, non-gimmick, singles match ever. I think I'm going to be liking this new, slutty Trish. And man, can she hit hard?

Evolution/Rock & Sock: I liked it fine. Flair was fucking gold here. "I don't think so, motherfucker." Best line of the night. Liked how the finish came out of nowhere.

Playboy match: Sable shouldn't take off her clothes, ever. My friend (who's a guy) was thinking about poking out his eyes when she did. Could Torrie and Jackie *BE* any less creative? White lace? Please. At least Stacy's was cute. I think I've commented too much of this....

Cruiserweight Open: Smart placing of it. It's good that it was in the middle of the show, because if anybody can pop the crowd, it's the cruiserweights. Too short. Although I was digging Noble quite a bit during the match.

Goldberg/Lesner: Match sucked, crowd reactions funny. That's about it.

Smackdown Tag Match: Same as Raw: Meh.

Molly/Victoria: I was a bit disappointed in the match. The girls can have a much better one, in my opinion. I was pretty shocked Molly was shaved bald, but I'm assuming she must have asked for it.

Eddie/Angle: This was a pretty good match. Glad Eddie won. I thought the boot thing was pretty creative, and true to Eddie's gimmick. Was probably the best match (maybe competing with Jericho/Christian) up to this point.

Undertaker/Kane: I was honestly bored through this. I don't really have much to comment on.

Benoit/HHH/HBK: I'm still in shock about this. Great, great match. I'll obviously have to watch it again to see if it was as great as I think. But in terms of emotion, it was EXCELLENT. I can't remember the last time I was so emotionally involved in the match. I was literally screaming at the TV for HHH to tap. Purely in mark mode here.

Overall: May have dragged on a bit, but wow, what a way to end the card. I was happy with the card, overall.

Anyone catch Benoit's appearance on "Fox and Friends" this morning?

......most of you did, since I think the appearance lasted all of 3 minutes. Cause Fox just HAD to show you the highlights of some stupid fucking car chase that went down earlier.

Still, though, watching Benoit pose with the belt is STILL just a surreal moment.

Will that show be replayed or on any other channels later on?

Thinking back, I think the triple threat was little better than I initially thought. I was over at gamefaqs.com and read a cool little tidbit about the triple threat match I didn't notice that was pretty smart. As we all know Benoit won the Rumble and was sussposed to face HHH one on one until Michaels stuck his nose in at the contract signing to make it a 3 way. Now Benoit and Michaels are the only wrestlers ever to win the Rumble starting from the very beginning. Benoit eliminates Michaels at the end of the match Royal Rumble style to finally make the match 1 on 1. The way it was initially sussposed to be. So not only did Benoit beat HHH, Benoit beat Michaels symbolically to get there. Kind of like a passing of the torch thing.

I guess I'm the only one but I really enjoyed teh handicap match. I thought it was really fun, especially Flair & Rocky's interaction, and was the biggest in making Orton legit they've taken(he didn't disappoint with the RKO). Maybei t's just cause I came in expecting crap(2 full time wrestlers in it, both of whome suck) but I really liked. Hell I liked it more than any match barring the main event and battle of the Chris's.

No, you're not the only one. It was definitely one of the most enjoyable matches of the night (after the triple threat, Y2J/Christian and possibly Angle/Eddie). No great technical masterpiece, but lots of fun nonetheless.

I enjoyed it.

The tag matches and brock/goldberg were pretty much the only matches that out and out sucked.

It was cool to see the playboy match but at the same time it really made not give a shit one bit about the victoria/molly match.

And I finally came to the conclusion last night that Goldberg was not mis-used at any point in his WWE run.The marks are just smarter then alot of ppl give them credit for. They remembered Gillberg and the fact that he is an Austin clone from the get-go and WWE are damn smart for not re-signing him.

The only thing I really felt let down by was no Bret speech but it wasn't promised or anything, but still... :(

Good:

Jericho/Christian-I liked the flips and I think the work was good.I remember the

match being a arm/leg work match which isn't dumb cause both man use their

arms and legs to end a wrestling match and this match did deliver goodness

and Y2J was smart, suplexing Christian in the middle of the ring and then

doing a superplex off the top rope and then he got him in the Walls of Jericho.

Christian as well, working Y2J legs for many minutes and got him in the Texas Cloverleaf that put pressure on Y2J worked legs and back.I'm now remembering

the back work and again, good work.

Kurt Angle/Eddie Guerrero-Angle played smart and worked Eddie's ribs so he don't get froggy again, his leg that he kicked and kicked and got in the Ankle lock

numerous of times,Eddie usually stopped the arm attacks and holds.Angle was

good, match was good,Eddie was alright and the finish was alright.I don't remember

much Eddie offense.

Chris Benoit/HBK/HHH-HBK head hit the steel post, right? I think that's how he

started bleeding.I think he should've got some sick chair shots and then bladed.

HHH in the shooter was great,HBK not in the ring was great,HHH in the crossface

was great and the finish was great.I liked how every time HHH went for the pedigree Benoit got out of it.

Fair:

John Cena/Big Show-Not a good wrestling match IMO,it was a decent open.It

would've been better if Cena hit Show's neck with the brass and then choke

slammed him.I didn't like the finish.

Evo/Rock&Sock-I didn't enjoy the work,it was a entertaining match.

Cade/Jin/La R/Dud/RVD&Booker T-Not much offense,

team work from some and too much kicking/punching,

similar work but it wasn't bad like I thought it was going

to be.

Poor:

Stacy/Jackie/Torrie/Sable-Some rolls,slaps and no

grappling.Short and shitty match.Thumbs can have better matches then these

four.

Vicky/Molly-I thought this was going to be one of the

best matches at WM XX but it turned out to be one of

the worst. It was short, not enough time to be considered

a good match when they only held(no working) the same body parts with same holds and then it was over.

CW Open-100 spots and quick eliminations.Too fast,

this is why I didn't like it and Rey/Chavo sucked.

WGTT/Bash/APA/Kish/Scotty-Same for Raw's,minus

similarity and this match was bad.

Goldberg/Brock-It was a lock-stare down-lock-stare

down-down-up match.I didn't think it was going to be

this bad.

Kane/Taker-They do the same in their matches.Taker

has most of the offense by punching, choking, and

squashing.This wasn't good.

WM XX was a fair show.

Congratulations, you're the first person I've seen on any board that didn't like the main event. You win the smart mark award. ::thumbs up::

Favorite Moments:

-The opening video.

-The Flair People's Elbow (was Flair a little more excited than usual in this match?).

-Rock and Foley's promo.

-The crowd during the Brock/Goldberg Match. (Just absolutely surreal. You could tell that Brock and Goldberg were bothered by the chants).

-The Hall of Fame Segment.

-Trish Stratus' heel turn (GREAT "Evil Bitch" Expressions).

-Seeing Bobby "The Brain" Hennan one more time.

-Cena winning the U.S. Title.

-Eddy/Angle.

-Eddie's creative way of winning the match.

-Paul Bearer returning.

-HBK/HHH/Benoit.

-And Chris Motherfucking Benoit ending WrestleMania XX as World Champion along with Eddie Guerrero as WWE Champion.

Least Favorite Moments:

-Molly getting her head shaved.

-The Undertaker returning without the makeup, the zombie attire, or the long hair and basically being BikerTaker with a jacket and hat looking like a Cowboy From Hell and not a Dead Zombie from Hell. HUGE disappointment, after all those months of hype.

-The actual Brock/Goldberg match.

-Ultimo Dragon slipping in the entrance and the ring ropes.

-The rushed nature of the Cruiserweight Open Match

Didn't Really Care: Everything besides what I just mentioned

Overall: I got a WrestleMania X vibe from this show. It reminded me alot of it. It's not the "Greatest Wrestling Pay-Per-View" of all-time as the WWE wanted it to be, but I liked it. I still like X-Seven better, but this show had 2 great matches (HHH/HBK/Benoit, Eddie Angle), one good match (Jericho/Christian), 2 decent if not unspectacular Matches (Cena/Big Show, Rock n' Sock/Evolution-although the Rock/Flair segments were awesome), a classy Hall of Fame Segment, some funny moments although I think most were unintentional, and one historic moment as CHRIS BENOIT of all people, gets to end WrestleMania XX, the pay-per-view WWE had hoped would be the greatest ppv ever. Sort of like Bret Hart ending WrestleMania X on top. I enjoyed it. A fairly forgettable undercard with two great matches and some history making moments a'la WrestleMania X.

Thumbs Up, but let's hope WWE never ever puts a 5 hour pay-per-view ever again.

My star ratings and opinion, although I haven't rewatched any of it yet, so this is just based on my first viewing with a room full of people, so the stars are probably off, more or less.

Cena vs. Big Show

I thought it did a great job in opening up the show. I was into the match for the most part. I liked the ending with the two FU's. **

RAW Tag Titles

Seemed pretty average to me. The only fast part was really the ending where everyone hits their finisher. *1/2

Jericho vs. Christian

Probably behind the two World title matches for MOTN. But I was loving this match the whole way through. I really didn't think they would go through with the Trish heel turn, and I was a little disappointed at first. But just from the beatdown and walking to the back, I'm digging slutty heel Trish. ***1/2

Handicap Match

I didn't pay attention as much as other matches, but it was a fun match, especially the Rock and Flair parts. I liked the ending, actually. **1/2

Evening Gown Match... DUD

Cruiserweight Open

Just about everyone on the board has the same sentiments on this one. Way too short and rushed. I noticed Dragon slip, but didn't know he slipped until someone else said something. I thought he just was jogging and bowed or something along the way. And what's with Rey in wearing the superhero tights at WM? Better than Daredevil from last year, I guess. **

Brock vs. Goldberg

Wow, the crowd was carrying this match with the chants. Way boring. I'll just say about *

SD Tag Titles

This wasn't even going too badly for me, but Too Cool winning instead of TWGTT really pissed me off. *1/2

Women's Title

Alright women's stuff. I didn't want to see Molly's head shaved though, so that was a letdown. *

Eddie vs. Angle

I wasn't paying as much attention as I should of, but when I did I was loving the match. Great wrestling all around. I actually liked the ending, despite what others will say. Eddie's frog splash didn't work, so he resorted to cheating. Simple. BTW, I loved Angle's American flag lighten up on the stage. ****1/4

Undertaker vs. Kane

I was marking out, especially when Paul Bearer came out, which I totally forgot about. While it was a bad match, I did enjoy just watching old school Taker. Kane definitely should have had more offense in around the end, though. *

Triple Threat Match

I loved it. The ending sequences were great, and the table bump was done to perfection. We were all going nuts when Benoit came in for the last few minutes and took out HBK and had HHH in the Crossface. Great moment and everyone here was on the edges of their seat. Awesome way to end WM with both Benoit & Eddie as world champs. ***3/4

Overall, I loved this show. While it did go on for a long time, I enjoyed every minute of it. I wouldn't be disappointed to see next year's WM go back to 3-4 hours, though.

A lot of people around me were dissapointed too. That's one of the problems with getting TOO much information - you're dissapointed by the WWE actually trying to pull off something cool but failing.

DA's thoughts on WM XX

-Cena vs Big Show sucked. So did Cena's opening promo. I think Cena was over excited because instead of coming out all casual bad ass, he was acting like he was hopped up on meth and looking like a jack ass instead. Match sucked. While Cena is more over than Orton (and that's just because Cena's gimmick is easier to pull off) he is just as bad in the ring. Match was *1/2 at best.

-4 way Raw tag title match wasn't offensive, but not good either. I can't fault the guys since they were given about 4 minutes to just execute their spots and get the fuck out of the ring. Did Jindrak or Cade even get tagged in? Who cares, the tin that represents the tag belts on both brands is worth donkey shit. **(and that's being nice)

-Christian vs Jericho was ok. Around **1/2-**3/4 ish. They only fucked up one spot on the top ropes, and that was minor. While Trish turning is another ill advised turn of one of WWE's faces, I like evil Trish. Hopefully now that she's had some experience, she can pull off being a heel better. Perhaps this could be a push for Christian with sidekick evil Trish, but I'm not holding my breath.

-Evolution vs Rock and Sock. Eh. Not that great. One funny spot here does not make this a good match. The storytelling of Evolution having the advantage was lost on me since Rock and Mick would just knock all 3 guys out of the loop and they didn't give them much to work with, IMO. Orton coming out of nowhere to win was ok. Foley really needs to do a one on one match and job to Orton to really put him over. Exactly how does Orton get put over pinning Foley in a 3 on 2 handicap match? Answer: he doesn't. **3/4

-Playboy evening gown match. Ugh. If T and A is your thing when you plunk down $50.00 for a pay per view that is supposed to feature wrestling is your thing, you got your wish. I at least appreciated them changing the rules to where you pin your opponent instead of ripping the gowns off first. They kept it short is the one good thing I'll say about this. DUD

-CW Open. Lame. Fucking lame. I understand the time constraints, but if time was the issue, then just have Chavo defend against Rey or whoever the CW flavor of the month is. Don't jack us with Funaki's 2 second appearance and Tajiri's man being taken out by fucking mist. Highspot monkey spooge is what this was. *

-Goldberg vs Lesnar. This was too weird. Oddly enough, I actually appreciated that Goldberg at least put some effort into his performance, although I'm not sure if he would've if he was going to job. Brock can go fuck himself for all I care. At least try in your last match. He basically worked with Goldberg like he did with Holly at the Rumble. Austin didn't help much either and you could tell he didn't want to be there once the crowd got all smarkish on the guys. Fuck him, he deserves it, along with the beer can to the eye. That was beautiful. Match was -* in workrate, but ****'s for sheer enigmatic purposes. This was off the wall odd.

-SD title match. This sucked 7 different types of ass. And the champs sucked about 5 of those asses. I laughed my ass off when Scotty and Rikishi did their Too Cool schtick after the match in damn near total silence. That was gold. Hey fuckheads, 2000 called and asked if you could stop doing the same gimmick. It's old. The belts need to be taken off these clowns, now. Then again, the belts mean shit, so who cares. *

-Molly vs Victoria. Another worthless piece of tin, although I do like both women. I especially like Victoria since she stopped the hair pulling schtick, at least for one night. Besides the worm, Victoria pulling her hair out at the entrance is one of the worse signature gestures in the business. I comes off so contrived and Victoria over does it. Molly does not deserve this. I agree with AS, she should quit, at least until her hair grows back. But by then, there may not be a women's division.(Crosses fingers and hopes there will be no more women's division) *1/2

-Eddie vs Angle. This suffered from the crowd being restless because the show was sucking fat meat missle up until this point. I feel bad because Angle started to throw psyche out the window in exchange for trying to get the crowd going again. Point was when Eddie did two suplexes in a row and Angle pops up out of nowhere and gets the anklelock. I expect a little better from a world class worker, but then again, the crowd was dead until this match. Finish was unique and well executed. I will disagree with AS here and hope these guys continue to feud. ***1/2

-Taker vs Kane. Lame. They dropped the ball with the return of the deadman. I see some smarks points about Taker coming back in the same form he was buried in and such, but he was advertised as the deadman, and I got the feeling that some, not all, were disappointed. Match sucked a bunch. *

-Three way for the title. Match of the Night, IMO. Benoit and HBK did what they had to do and HHH actually dialed it up a notch and wasn't horrible. I felt bad for these guys too because you could see points where the crowd was supposed to pop at points for certain parts of the match, but they didn't like HBK. It was awkward to see when HHH and HBK suplexed Benoit thru the table and HBK do the finger point bit with HHH, the crowd was supposed to eat that up with a spoon, and they rejected it because they were not behind Michaels. At all. This crowd wanted someone fresh to win and they got just that. Ending was picture perfect, both the finish of the match as well as Eddie coming in to put both belts on par with each other (something HHH refused to do). However, because the crowd wasn't into this as much as they should've been, this gets dialed down to ***3/4.

Some of you complain about Undertaker's appearance, but I think it's a genius idea. Hear me out:

Notice the bandage around Taker's elbow(below the elbow pad). If you watch the Buried Alive Match from Survivor Series, he's wearing exactly the same thing on the same elbow. Also, he was buried alive with the clothes he was wearing(The American Bad Ass Attire), so it made sense for him to dress up that way. Also, he wore a cowboy hat, and a jacket to the ring. It made him look like Henry Fonda in Once Upon A Time in the West, who was pure evil in that movie. Also, where do you see the most cowboy hats? TEXAS! Guess where Undertaker was buried. TEXAS! And, in westerns, Undertakers/Gravediggers look just like the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 20. They look dark and evil. They are silent. He probably woke up from the grave, killed some Texas gravedigger, and took his clothes. Or, Paul Bearer dug him up, and told him that his dead parents(in the urn) were calling him to unleash havoc on all the wrestlers of the WWE.

This seems like a good explanation for how the Undertaker looks....maybe.

umm, but he didn't look dead or like a zombie. Why was he being referred to as The DEADMAN? In the big picture it is probably a GOOD thing that he didn't come back as 1994 Taker because it just wouldn't fit in today's wrestling enviornment, but when you advertise and hype up something, and then fail to deliver, you are gonna get called on it. :boxing:

Actually, no, not a good explaination. If that is the road that they took, then they should have went full out. The stuff he was wearing should have been torn and dirt stained. It's like the zombie Taker went to the laundry mat after he "rose from the dead". He also has that nicely trimmed goatee, too. The effect would have been soooo much more if that happened instead of him coming out in perfectly washed, non-torn, attire.

What the fuck are you talking about? That match was GREAT - being that it was the Main Event, it made the show almost that, too.

And yes, I cried like a little bitch when Benoit went over, and especially when Eddie came out and tearfully embraced Benoit - what a way to end WWE WrestleMania XX.

And Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit are both the Champions.

How was it great? It was the Royal Rumble HHH/HBK match, with both guys bleeding although I can't recall either getting hit in the head, add in Benoit kicking their asses for a few minutes, then the rad ending. **1/2 might be a little high.

I need to re-watch it later, but these are just my thoughts on it right now...

Cena/Big Show: Cena looked so incredibly happy to be at Wrestlemania it made me smile through the whole match. I liked the whole Big Show kicking out of the FU and Cena just looking so shocked and sad. The ending was great though and I'm glad that Cena won. Match dragged a bit but it had good energy. **

Raw Tag Match: I didn't pay much attention to this match, I was having a debate over the last match with my family. From what I did catch, it was pretty boring. *

Christian/Jericho: This match was pretty good, it was nice seeing Christian getting a push finally. Trish is a great bitch and thank goodness that Christian has a valet. She's just what he needs. ***

Evolution/Rock & Sock: I LOVED the end, I couldn't believe that Foley lost. The match was alright, had an old school feel to it. Extra star just for the finish... ***

Playboy match: UGHHHHHH....

Cruiserweight Open: Way too short, it was over in a flash, real shame. I wish they had more wrestlers in it and that the rules were different. A cruiser battle royal would have been 10x better. **

Goldberg/Lesner: The crowd reactions made this match memorable. It was a bad match but go MSG! *

Smackdown Tag Match: Same a the Raw one. I barely watched it. *

Molly/Victoria: I've always felt that these two are the best womens wrestlers in the WWF. They just didnt put everything in it tonight which sucked but it was still alright. I can't believe that Molly got her head shaved though. As much of a Wrestlemania moment as Crush being tied up backstage at Wrestlemania...X was it? **1/2

Eddie/Angle: Eddie and Angle will always be good. I was hoping that this match would be btter but it was still alright. I marked out when Eddie retained the belt. ***1/2

Undertaker/Kane: Personally, I liked Undertakers look. It was a boring match but I love the tombstone so yay for that. *

Benoit/HHH/HBK: I marked out like crazy this entire match. Every near fall, submisson, ANYTHING I was yelling at the tv. When Benoit finally had Triple H in the Crossface I was just screaming TAP TAP TAP!!! I'm so glad that Benoit finally won the big one, got teary when he cried. ***1/2

Overall: The card was excellent but the wrestling, strange enough, wasn't as good as I had expected. The crowd was great though and the night was emoton filled. But oh how I wish that the Jesse interview had been used to interview Bret Hart, thats what I was hoping but ohhh well.
