John Cena

Recommended Posts

Is Cena the most over guy in the federation or what? It seemed like that since his reaction on Raw was bigger than any of the Raw wrestlers.

I think right now Eddie is the top guy, but am I the only one who noticed how over Cena is?

He is over but not the most over guy in WWE, but his pops were more over than a returning Edge.

He got a bigger pop and bigger crowd reaction then Benoit or Guerrero Had...

You are a jaded Smark if you truely believe that Cena isn't more over then them two.

Here's an interesting factoid...Apprently the ones that watch raw don't watch Smackdown and yet cena had a MONSTER pop...while eddy didn't draw a hot reaction.

This shows Cena has more cross-over appeal then eddy.

Let Cena wrestle and lets see if he still gets the same pops, one huge pop doesn't mean superover, if it keeps on happening then i'll give him his props until then he's still not the most over guy in my book.

The crowd sucked last night. I mean, the show wasn't anything great, but the crowd was completely dead the whole show. Talk about enthusiastic.

I believe that the crowd popped for Cena because they thought that the WWE would actually let him cut loose and rip into people hard, but he didn't really get too.

If he was still like he was this past Monday, that pop would fall back to where it was originally.

He's BEEN getting Huge pops. The guy is the most over next to The Rock, Austin, and Eddie. The Rock is still most over though.

I wanna know what was going on with the US belt last night. He must have buckled it wrong, because it was basically falling off for that whole promo.

He did get a monster pop, but I thought I heard some boos...or maybe that was hoot! Hoot! Hoot!..You know, he's a rapper and all.

re: the belt:

Yeah, I'm assuming it was deliberate. Good to see him actually wear it in the beltular region, though, unlike most other champions.

I think they were just excited that a "name" was out to DO something. The picks up to that point weren't Earth shattering and no big stars had been out up to that point.

He knows how to work a crowd really really well, so that the reaction AFTER the promo is even bigger than the ones beforehand. That's a gift that will suit him well.

There were major Cena chants for the first 2 Raw draws, the first not being very audible on TV but I could hear the 2nd one when I watched the tape. The people in my area, myself included, were really looking forward to seeing him that night, so we just exploded when he finally came out.

Well, it was in Detroit. I'd liken Cena, a guy who does a white rapper gimmick, in Detroit and New England to Eddy in places like Texas and LA.

Cena's definitely one of the most over guys in WWE, though, but I'd say he and Eddy are about equal, or Cena's just a little more over than Eddy.

Just like his clothes, he wears the belt loose.

I just don't get it.

Were we watching the same show?

Sarcasm maybe? If so ignore the rest of my post

Jericho got his first real pop since his face turn and Cena's was huge too.

I thought the crowd was damn hot considering the show had more sports entertainment then usual.

Fuck they actually popped a little bit when Batista went to powerbomb Booker T and even batista looked shocked by it.

The tag title match was very weird... during the break, RVD put a rest hold on Flair... causing us to raly for the heel to break it and make the tag?

The crowd was really into Flair, and unfortunatley Batista comes with him.

There is no denying that Cena is super over. Not just on tv but at house shows too.

Out of active guys(ie. no Austin) Cena and Eddie are tied for second most over in the company. Like him or not Taker still gets the loudest reactions.

Heck, Cena got one of the best reactions at WM XX. He IMMEDIATELY got the crowd going.

Well shit, I could've told you Cena had more cross-over appeal BEFORE last night too.

This isn't a knock on Eddie by any means, but the thing people have to understand is that a lot of his huge pops were... how should I put this... ethnically based. For a while there Smackdown was doing a lot of shows on the west coast in cities with big Latino populations, so of course Eddie would be cheered on like a god there. But that doesn't necessarily translate to the general audience. Eddie is still very over with them of course, but maybe not as much as you'd think from watching a San Diego show.

Cena has this really cool trick that he does.

You see, he knows how to pop a crowd and the crowd THAT IS THERE likes him and reacts to him like he's a star.

Problem is, he means shit for business. While he excells in knowing how to work a crowd with an easy gimmick to get over, he doesn't sell tickets (no one on either roster is doing this as well) and he isn't bringing in any new viewers.

The only time I believe in pops is when it means something for business. Right now, Cena is pulling a Hogan. He can manipulate the crowd to love him, but when it comes right down to it, he isn't making the company any money. Could he be a draw in the future? Sure, but not right now. Not with ass-fucked storylines and Cena's lack of ability in the ring. Cena has exactly one match above three stars (vs. Angle@ No Mercy). In the ring, he is on par with Randy Orton. There, I said it.

People should treat Cena like 7-Up. Don't let the smooth taste fool you.

While that's probably true, the basis for the comparison is very weak. ONE CROWD, especially a Detroit crowd, isn't exactly the barometer you want to use to gauge someone's appeal.

That would be like "Damn, that guy got an incredible ovation tonight--we'd better put the title on him right away."

John Cena is so over because of his awesome gimmick - fans wanted to pop for him before he turned, but just couldn't. He has a Shawn Michaels appeal, in some ways.

The entire WWE roster has meant shit for business for 2 years now. That goes for everyone from Benoit and Eddie to HHH and Taker. Everybody. So why single Cena out?

Cena doesn't draw but he entertains the fans at the shows. A lot of guys there don't draw AND don't entertain anybody. So I don't see how people popping for Cena is a bad thing.

And Andrew, last night's crowd was far from the first to go wild for Cena and I'm sure they won't be the last. And I never said he should get the title anytime soon by the way- his ring game is still far too weak.

Cena is most likely going to become pretty stale sooner or later. He got a nice pop the other night, but not as big as Eddie's. When the crowd starts to drown out the music, that sorta say something.

I agree there's a lot of potential for Cena to turn stale if he's not careful.

Putting aside that he has to dumb down his raps for a lot of the audience (and still some don't understand them- right Anglesault? :P) the biggest problem is he's already starting to descend into catchphrase hell and water down everything that made the fans like him in the first place. It happens to almost every face.

See Jericho, Chris and Rock, The.

I believe that fresh feuds will keep Cena from turning stale for a while.
