Michrome 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 The general feeling is that TNA's TV deal with Fox Sports Net will be finalized soon if it hasn't been already. The first show is expected to air in June. TNA management is apparently already saying "Once we get on Fox Sports Net..." when talking about future plans. The plan seems to be to drop the weekly PPVs completely once a TV deal is struck. The company would then run one Sunday PPV per month. Credit: The torch A new era of wrestling begins? Or another flop? Do they save the cage match for the first show there? Or another flop? Do they save the cage match for the first show there? I don't think they'll post pone the match. They knew they had a good shot at this deal and continued to book the feud like this, so it's pretty much written in stone unless they pull a Raven/Jarrett 4/30 and don't have the match for 5 or 6 weeks after the contendership match happens. JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Yeah, they won't postpone the cage match for 2 months. And really, they probably want to start up mostly new storylines once TV starts, won't they?
Michrome 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Wouldn't shock me if they did a BS finish 4/14 (double pin?) leading to a rematch being announced on the 4/21 show and happening on 4/28. They could then spend 4 or 5 weeks hyping the match before putting it on their first fox show.
tommytomlin 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Can someone fill me in on how big a channel Fox Sports Net is? I know it's a national cable network, but how big is its audience compared to say, Spike TV?
Michrome 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 I think it's just as widespread, if not more.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 It's just as wide spread except that I could be watching TNA on it's normal slot here (lets say Friday night) in WA but BPS due to a baseball game can't watch it until Saturday... but then the next week he can watch it at his normal time but the M's preempt TNA and I have to watch it later that night or the next day. Pre-empting could be a big issue IMO with baseball season starting.
Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Fox Sports New is not as widespread as Spike TV. If you live in the U.S. and have cable, you have Spike TV. Fox Sports Net is just a conglomerate of regionalized sports networks, such as Fox Sports New York, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, Fox Sports Ohio, etc. Kind of like the old NWA and it's affiliaties. Every area of the country does not have a fox sports affiliate. I live in Buffalo. Our regional sports network is Empire Sports Network. I'm pretty sure that the TNA show WILL NOT be on here. These Fox Sports networks carry a ton of sporting events, so I can see them getting bumped all the time. Now people that have dishes (I have DirecTV) it won't matter as if you have the sports pack, you get all these Fox Sports stations and I'll be able to see it like 30 times. Astro101 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Well, this is great news for me since that means I'll still get to watch TNA so if FSN keeps TNA for a while, I'll watch in college since it has Fox Sports Southwest. My question is, if FSN cancels TNA, will TNA have trouble getting back to weekly PPVs?

Empire/MSG etc are affiliates of Fox Sports so they should show TNA. They most certainly are not. I have lived in Buffalo my whole life and have gotten Empire and MSG my whole life. Empire used to (up until about a year ago) be an affiliate of Fox Sports. Then Adelphia Cable went into bankrupcy and Empire wouldn't even exist anymore if they weren't locked into a Buffalo Sabres contract. Empire no longer carries anything that requires money. It costs money to be a Fox affiliate (station pays Fox money to be able to broadcast their show). Empire has not had anything Fox related in many many months. This is also why Xplosion got onto Empire - very cheap programming. I cannot remember seeing Fox programming on MSG for a very long time. But it doesn't matter because there is a Fox Sports New York. And to whoever said Fox Sports affiliates cover over 90% of the country, where'd you get that number?
MrRant 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Fox Sports Net reaches more than 70 million homes and became the first nationwide, regional and local supplier of sports programming. http://www.newscorp.com/feg/foxReport2000/cable.html That was of fiscal year 2000 so it has probably increased since then. AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 The only Fox Sports channel I see available on ExpressVu in Canada is Fox Sports World, which seems to be mostly "world" sports like soccer and rugby. Maybe SportsNet or The Score will pick it up. It might not generate enough of an audience for TSN.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Maybe SportsNet or The Score will pick it up. It might not generate enough of an audience for TSN. The Score would get it for sure. They treat pro wrestling like an actual sport and with decency. Also, their hosts actually do watch Smackdown on occassion and do know something about the product. This says a lot for that channel. They pick up TNA, I will definitely be watching The Score.

Hektik 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Fox Sports Net works like a broadcast network. There are regional affiliates that show local programming, but there are also shows that are shown nationaly at a specific time. The Best Damn Sports Show is an example of a nationaly broadcast show on Fox Sports Net. TNA, if the deal goes through, would be a nationaly broadcast show on Fox Sports. I don't even think there will be a problem of pre-emption because it would be shown on Sunday Night (I think at 9 or 10).
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted April 5, 2004 The two biggest markets (that I know of) that would be left out in the cold possibly are Philly and Baltimore/DC. Comcast is the main cable provider in both of these areas and get Comcast SportsNet instead of a Fox SportsNet station. They carry *some* Fox SportsNet stuff (Best Damn Sports show, occassionally a daily recap show, ect). The stuff from Fox is still a really small portion of their programing. I guess it is possible they would carry TNA, but not likely. That would a sufficient hole though as those are three (Philly, DC, and Baltimore) top 20 markets. Am I getting ripped off, or do I just need to order a bigger channel package? The Regional Sports Package includes all of the Fox Sports Net Channels and some of the others like NESN and such. Its 12 bucks more a month if you don't have any premiums. The advantage to this would be that if a game delays it on one channel chances are it wouldn't on one of the other 20 or so, not to mention the fact that some are in different time zones. I get Fox Sports Net programming via Comcast Sports Net on Directv. Quite the odd setup. I would think that if Comcast Sports Net carries BDSSP and stuff like 54321 that they would show TNA as well if FOX Sports Net got the contract.
