Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted May 5, 2004 He also fucking robbed the Leafs on numerous occasions. They were too old. Their defense sucks. Well, yeah. Esche made a lot of good saves -- the one with about a minute left in the third standing out the most -- but in overtime he cleared the puck in front of his own net several times when he wasn't even there. But, like you said, Toronto was old and worn-out, and the Flyers played excellent defence -- the coverage on Sundin in OT was superb -- to keep them from scoring. And that was some weak-ass defence by Toronto as well. There's no excuse for any two-on-ones in an overtime period. That on top of Toronto playing 5 on 4 in Philly's zone after Tucker's dirty hit on Kapenen.

Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Any predictions? Flames in 6 Flames over Sharks 4-2 Flames d. Sharks in 6 Flames in 6 "Everybody's talking about facing Tampa or Philly as if it's some kind of a foregone conclusion that you're gonna beat us next round- as if we're some kind of a fluke winner, or a transitional team, but they can all go to hell if they think that! And all of YOU all can go to hell if you think that!.........NO!!! NO NO NO NO NO!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! WE ARE NOT A JOKE! WE ARE SERIOUS! I'm sorry but after blowing the last series almost, even I've gotta admit that San Jose isn't as hungry as the Flames are. So I too will cast this exact same result. Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Tampa over Philly in 6 It really could go either way, but I think the extra rest will do the Lightning well, and Khabi will bring his A game once again, leading the Lightning to a hard fought win. SJ over Calgary in 5. Calgary falls back down to earth, while the Sharks finally gain a killer instinct. Oh, and Olympic Slam, don't sweat people picking Calgary. As a Lightning fan, I went through the exact same thing in the last round on another board where I post. Everyone was picking Montreal in a laugher. In the end, Tampa Bay not only beat Montreal, they swept them. It makes winning that much sweeter when the majority thinks your team has no chance in hell. starvenger 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I'm picking Tampa in 6, Calgary in 7, and Gary Bettman's head exploding. It's possible that I'm overrating an underrated team in Calgary, but I think they want it more than the Sharks right now. No complaints if San Jose makes it, though... nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Well thats what happens when Tucker forarms the guys face into the glass. The hit was clean in hockey terms but it was totally unnecessary in the heat of the game. Dare I say it was close to having an intent to injure. What the fuck are you talking about? How can a hit be "totally unnecessary in the heat of the game"??? What's a guy going to say, 'well, we're in OT and I have a chance to hammer a guy with a legal hit. Nahhh, better not, why would my team want to have a short man advantage?" It was a hit that was NOT going to be called a penalty at that point in the game, and thus was legal and neccessary. My picks for the conference finals: Tampa Bay over Philly in 6: Tampa's healthier, and well rested. If Philly can find a way to muscle them around the ice, they'll have a chance, but so far physical teams have been outplayed by faster, finesse teams. San Jose over Calgary in 7: Just a guess, following my gut instinct. Infrequently does Cinderella make it through all 3 series (last year's Anaheim team being an exception, and they truthfully beat another Cinderella in the Conf finals, so it barely counts). And, yes, I recognize that a SJ/TB Stanley Cup is the NHL's, and hockey fans' in general, worst nightmare.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I wish that David Stern ran the NHL, cause you know that the Flyers would be in the finals then. But, I predict a Flyers/Sharks finals anyways. Let's get Flyered up.

Guest hockeytown9321 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 When Detroit won the cup in 97, 98, they had a solid defence, and didn't really have to rely on goaltending to carry them to the cup. Detroit had no defence through the entire playoffs, and if the defence played very well, CuJo would not be starting at all through the playoffs. Defense was the least of Detroit's concerns. They gave up 20 goals in 12 games. Defence was a huge issue, most of the goals they let in this year was from poor defensive play. BTW... 1-0 Flyers!!! Thats how pretty much every goal is socred-a defensive breakdown. Detroit had less than 2 per game, thats good D.

LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I like SJ, they're a tough team. But Sutter knows that team pretty darn well, having coached them and all. Kiprusoff also knows them very well. SJ doesn't have any of that on their team. It'll be a fun series to watch, but I have to think that Calgary has the advantage because of Sutter/Kiprusoff. Calgary in 6. Flyers/Tampa is tough to call. I suppose I'll go with the speed team over the bruisers, Tampa in 7.

smh810 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 I'm going with: Calgary in 6 Tampa in 5 Go Canadian Chris and welcome to the bandwagon. Anyway, this will be the toughest series so far for the Bolts. Philly is physical but I don't see Esche outplaying Khabibulin. I pick the Bolts in 6 On the other hand I just don't see Calgary beating San Jose. The Sharks are clearly the better team in all phases of the game. Maybe Kiprusoff will steal a game but thats it. Sharks in

Don't forget my homestate team of the Carolina Hurricanes in '02 making it to the finals when most were predicting they would go out in the first round. I'm thinking a Lightning vs. Sharks final would be really good as they are both pretty equal teams, but I'll still pull for the Flyers.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Obviously, Calgary vs. Philadelphia would be ideal. Just like Cubs and Red Sox, Senators-Wild, Eagles-Colts, and every other cool matchup that we've seen slip by.
treble 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 How was Senators/Wild 'cool'? If you want to talk about cool, go back to the '02 playoffs. The Hurricanes not only ruined a chance at a Leafs/Habs Eastern Conference finals, but also a Leafs/Wings Stanley Cup Finals (note: please ignore the fact that neither the Habs nor the Leafs played like they deserved to win those series) so they could go on to get their asses handed to them by Detroit. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 How was Senators/Wild 'cool'? I think I meant Mighty Ducks. Best team in the NHL aganst underdog, north vs. south, etc. Minnesota would've been good for the game though, I guess? It was an error. But seriously, if we get San Jose and Tampa Bay battling for the Stanley Cup, just go ahead and fill the Cup with urine. Warm Canadian urine.
