Which is the best? (For 96 I included some matches that weren't on PPV)

I've never seen 1993, so that's out. I voted 1994.

I enjoyed 1993 the most. I also liked 1998 a lot. 1995 and 1999 could have good had the right people gone over.

1993. Not only for Bret's performance in his three matches and the fantastic Bret/Perfect match, but also for the three good Doink/Perfect matches in the qualifiers. 1993 was when it seemed the biggest deal. It was also the least predictable with three guys (Bret, Perfect, Luger) that could have easily won it. 1994 was good too, but was hurt by everyone and their mother knowing Owen was going to win.

1993 by far. Sure, if you exclude Bret vs. anyone, the PPV matches look eh. But overall, the tournament was booked well, and Bret worked like a mo'fo to produce two ***+ matches and a ****+ classic with Perfect.

 

1994 too predictable, I actually predicted every winner right for each match. Only time thats ever happened.

 

1995-1997 sucked.

 

1998 was decent.

 

1999 sucked

 

2000 was horribly booked

 

2001.....don't even remember.

 

2002 was also too predictable.

1993 was the best OVERALL.

1994 had a DAMN good Owen/Kid Match that was criminally short but was so damn predicatable but great speech from Owen though.

1995...The less said the better. Still can't fathom why Shawn Over Yoko wasn't the finals...it was perfect...Shawn returns from Attacks and beats the Monster Yoko...instead Draws with Kama and Mabel wins the KOTR.

1996...An **** Mero/Austin match...and Mero/Hart was a damn good match as a Qualifyer. Gave us the most infamous promo ever.

1997. People say 1995 was bad...1997 was RIGHT UP there. At least the winner was more tolerable.

1998 had the BEST finals match of the whole deal (Rock/Shamrock)

1999 was a joke. BILLY GUNN? WAY to Much DX for my liking.

2000 I already mentioned

2001 had another great line up (edge, christian, angle, Rhyno) but for fuck sakes...they were ALL apart of the same team...even though E&C were tweeners facing Face.

2002. Test was a semi-finalist. That's all I have to say.

I kind of enjoyed 2001 more than most. I liked the finals of the tourney, despite the Shane McMahon interference.

I'll jump on the 93 bandwagon here. My first impulse was 94 because of the great Owen/Kid match, but 93 was the best overall.

94 NARROWLY over 93. Kid/Owen and Bret/Henning cancel each other out, and Hart/Razon cancel each other out. Jarret/Kid baarely beats Hart/Bammer.

 

If it was whole event, Shane/Angle would give 2001 a chance.

Well I've only seen 2000 - 2002 in full, and 2002 was by far the worst, with RVD/Y2J being the best match but only being solid. 2001, was the best because all of the matches were either solid or very good. Angle/Christian was good and Edge/Rhyno was very good, with Edge/Angle being expectedly good as well. This match helped Edge turn face and slowly move away from Christian.

I voted 93, althought to me 94 was close as well. The first tournament had some great matches and a great story, with Bret winning it all at all costs. Owens run in the 94 was great too, and enhanced his angle with Bret along the way. After those two, only 96 really came close to a great King of the Ring tournament.

That's what I loved about KOTRs is when they all the whole tournament on the same night. Once they moved to just the semi-finals, it took the fun out of it with the endurance challenge which is the reason that made it great to begin with.

Then Benoit over Eddie or even Eddie over Benoit... The semifinals on would have given great matches. Plus the first round great match with Venis/Eddie. Crash vs Jericho may have been tolerable was well.

 

BUT the best KOTR is 1993. I haven't seen 1994, which is a shame from all the great reviews. 98 was the second place, and 2001 was third.
