I have a deep personal affinity for the Transformers soundtrack. I quite like No cities Left as well, it's a grower.

Good as it is, almost every song on No Cities Left goes on about a minute too long; I like it better than Gang of Losers, though, as that runs out of steam in the last third.

Listened to The White Stripes "De Stijl" last night, around 3 in the morning, so I guess it counts as today. Really good opening couple songs, You're Pretty Good Looking and Hello Operator, it kind of trails off though. "I'm Bound to Pack it Up, A Boy's Best Friend" and "Sister do you know my name" aren't really good, like at all, but then it picks back up again. I liked it a lot, excluding those three tracks.

By default I've had to listen to the new Kings of Leon album, my annoying housemate has been playing it non-stop in the room next to mine.

The Monkees had some great singles, but they were a pretty forgettable album act. Nothing bad on Headquarters (their third lp; first to be entirely written, played and produced by the band itself)—some real good songs, even—but most of it floats by so wispily that I can't recall what I heard mere seconds after hearing it.

If you say so. I haven't heard anything from the rest of their catalogue, but 75% or more of Jamboree seems to go like:

I mean, there's "Indian Summer" and the car crash of a "song" that ends the album does manage to work somehow as a closing track, but so much of the rest of it comes in flat for me. The sensation reminds me of my general distaste for Pink Flag, but even I can objectively see the appeal behind that one. Jamboree, I dunno. Is there some kind of context behind the album that I'm completely oblivious to? Is there a better place to start with Beat Happening?

 

I will concede, however, that Tapes 'n Tapes loses a lot of that "fun" on the second go round. "Like Drums" still has some zing to it, but the rest of the album just completely stalls out in flight after initial exposure.
