Guest Dynamite Kido Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I was thinking about this yesterday as I was watching the Chi-Town Rumble, and it had me thinking....what was the last "great" feud in professional wrestling? Now by "great" I mean, great matches, buildup, and blowoff. Discuss........
Lightning Flik Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 (edited) I'd say ... Wow, it has been awhile since I've thought of a really good one. HHH vs. Foley/Cactus Jack in 2000(?), before Foley semi-retired. This I believe is because hell. I don't remember a better feud that was built so well. Everything seemed right about this match. Shit, I bought the last match to the encounter, and it was a great rivalry. Hell, I'd nearly, and I do mean nearly, say it was one of the best feuds ever... Of course, I'm going to get argued for that belief. But I do believe so. Edited April 16, 2004 by Lightning Flik
Guest Choken One Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 The Rock Vs Chris Jericho. From the "Heel Turn" in the trainer's room to the Title Change with the Rock holding the Chair at the end...to the I'M NOT A JOKE! promo...just a fantastic feud. 3 **** Matches countless fantastic promos...

Choken that is a GREAT choice. That would have to be one that I totally forgot about. I think now I am going to half to go back and watch all the stuff I have of that feud.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Rock/Jericho I agree with totally. I actually loved Taker/Flair and would've considered had Flair won the blow off instead of being squashed.
Jingus Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I wish I could throw in a vote for Austin vs. Angle, but unfortunately that feud never got a real blowoff match, due to all the ECWCW Invasion crap surrounding it (unless you count their last random PPV match at Vengeance, which was nothing more than a setup for Jericho's title win). Austin vs. Rock also comes to mind, being slowly built up and interestingly booked over the years (what other feud has headlined three different Manias?), but its on-again, off-again nature sometimes kept it from building up any real heat. For the last real Great feud, I'd probably say Foley vs. HHH as well.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Austin vs. Angle or HHH Vs. Foley
TheFranchise Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I dont think anything's topped Austin/McMahon.
Steviekick Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 The first Tommy Dreamer and Raven in ECW. I even liked what they did with them when Raven came back.
JST Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Motivated Austin VS Healthy Triple H was a thing of beauty. From the Rock/Rikishi match (where if Rock wins, Trips chooses match stips and vice-versa), to the Zero Tolerance Policy, to the famous Three Stages Of Hell match at No Way Out.

When Austin came back late 2000/early 2001, he was at his best since 1997/1998.
Guest shez316 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 What about HBK's return against HHH at Summerslam 2002. Great build up and a quality match......if only they stopped feuding afterwards
Steviekick Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 What about HBK's return against HHH at Summerslam 2002. Great build up and a quality match......if only they stopped feuding afterwards It should be a great feud, but thanks to it being dragged on for way too long and its onn again, off again nature it just isn't.
Mecha Mummy Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I actually really liked the Raven vs. Shane Douglas feud in NWA-TNA when TNA was putting out good show after good show, but it went on too long and should have ended at the Lucky 13 Gauntlet for the Gold, so bleh.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Rock/Jericho I agree with totally. I actually loved Taker/Flair and would've considered had Flair won the blow off instead of being squashed. Because letting Ric Flair be the one to end UT's WM streak would have been the best thing to do for booking, right?
Use Your Illusion Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I'm with Zsasz, it wouldn't of been realistic to have Flair go over, nor would it have been worth the sacrifice. To be honest, I really, really, really liked the HBK/Benoit/Helmsley feud this year for Wrestlemania. It's arguable whether or not it could be considered truly *great*, but when I first heard about it, I was initially turned off. However, after seeing the awesome on-screen chemistry of all three, I was totally drawn in. Randy/Foley had quite the build up too. UYI
Jericho2000Mark Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Definitely Rock-Jericho. The matches, the promos and the heat was tremendous. Rock did his best to make Jericho a star, even though the "Un" Creative Team did their best to make him look like a "Jobber with a belt". Problem is, the whole fued was 14 months late. Their match at No Mercy SHOULD have taken place at SummerSlam 2000, when Jericho still had momentum(before his fueds with Kane & X-Pac made it come to a crashing halt) and next to Rock, he was more over than anyone in the entire sport(at the time)! If only they elevated Jericho & Benoit in 2000, that year would have been PERFECT! As well as give a decent blowoff to the Angle-Stephanie-Triple H love triangle, scrap that retarded stunt at Survivor Series where Triple H held back death, and go with Jericho as "The Driver" instead of Rikishi... I'll stop now...before this reaches Fantasy Booking levels. I liked the Jericho-Micheals fued from last year, but that was mostly because of Jericho's promos. ESPECIALLY the promo the night after Armageddon 2002. If Micheals hadn't gone over, this would have been my choice. Although I did mark out when Jericho sacked him after the match.
