Enigma 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 "This week's edition of Smackdown did a 2.9 broadcast rating, with a 5 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is down from last week's 3.0 and continues the show's recent downward ratings trend. It’s also the lowest number that the show has done in some time. While some may say that it was up against increased ratings pressure from the season finale of "The Apprentice" (which did a 17.2 broadcast rating, up 4.3 points from last week) and a special edition of "American Idol", "Friends" (which aired two repeats) saw its ratings drop so that should have worked in their favor. As it was, the highest rated quarter hour, a 3.2, occurred from 9 to 9:15 so the hour with repeats of "Friends" did nothing to help the number. I think the recent trend of the show, with it dropping over the last few weeks, is more related to the quality of the show and the recent changes to the brand than to anything else." Credit: Dave Scherer/PWInsider Upon investigation, this was the lowest rated non-holiday version of Smackdown since the October 2nd, 2003 show did a 2.9. The main event of that show was John Cena & Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker & Kurt Angle.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I don't expect the ratings to go up anytime soon...but you know that Vince will use stiff competition to keep justifying the Bradshaw push. At least last night's show wasn't too Bradshaw-heavy...

At least last night's show wasn't too Bradshaw-heavy... Vince isn't going to use the heavy competition to justify anything... he's just going to keep pushing the guy no matter what the effect. He's done it before, and he'll do it again.

Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Quit pushing Bradshaw. Stop "killing" people on TV. It insults the audience's intelligence. It's a start anyway.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 I'm no Bradshaw fan but not ALL the blame is his. The shows been SO terrible lately, no ME could save it. And keeping their biggest name off TV is retarted.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 (edited) They should try putting their most established Main Eventer on the Televised part of the show. Edit:It won't happen for about 2 weeks, they'll promote it a week in advance like they did with Austin last year. JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 No, it's not all Bradshaw's fault. Somehow, I don't think an angle where he gets his hat taken away and stomped on is really going to bring in the $$$$.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Bradshaw's push has turned me away from Smackdown. I gave it a chance, and it still sucks. Chalk the list to 1 because of me.

ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 This was a good show? Angle "dying," Haas and Rico acting gay when neither character is such, no good matches beside possibly Eddy/Big Show being passable, and a lack of cruiserweights? Good? Jason

{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Sorry to be off topic, but Man Of 1,004 Modes, the pot smoking joke wasn't funny the first time you used it, let alone the numerous reprisals we have been privy to.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 As bad as Bradshaw is, I'd say Smackdown overall is just a bad show right now. Whoever is in charge needs his walking papers, but I doubt Vince would be willing to fire himself.......
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 While you can't completly blame Bradshaw, they should have known the fans were going to shit all over this angle. And while I ALMOST like the way they're handling it...it's friggin Bradshaw, the end result is going to be a crappy wrestling match. And whenever I his music starts up I think it's going to be A-Train.

Jason Well, it was WAY better than the shit they were putting on the last 2 weeks and yes I did enjoy the show for once, the last two were completely unwatchable. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I wonder when Vince will hire his thugs to come and beat up my satellite so I can't watch Smackdown early and post my thoughts about it. Of course, I can't watch UPN as it is, but maybe Vince would give me a Digital OTA reciever so I could pick up the new local UPN..
humongous2002 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 RVD/Book and Eddie/Show were ok tv matches but the rest of SD just bored me to tears, Bradshaw getting the Judgement Day main event spot made me change the channel because that insults my intelligence more than Angle falling to his death without making any landing sounds. Speaking of Kane....Kane squashing nobodies on RAW = makes me happy. I can't wait for him to destroy Edge at Backlash. If WWE even kept up with history, I don't think Edge has ever beaten Kane 1-on-1. Fond memories of Kane almost starting a Brood fire brings a smile to my face... Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 The show is horrible up and down, with or without a Bradshaw push. Eddie is looking like more of a chump every week. The champion is supposed to be a star, and you can't be a star when you're surrounded by scrubs. When Book called him champion of the minor leagues it might as well have been a shoot. Oh yeah, and the fact they KILLED Kurt Angle. When a guy needs time off, is it really so hard to just say he's in the hospital or on vaction or or in jail or something? Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I can't remember a time its been done in an angle, I'm just throwing it out there as an example. My point if someone needs time off, why not just say they're taking time off? Will it ruin the "immortal" image of wrestlers if they come out and say they're going the hospital? Is it really so hard to come up with good excuses for guys being off TV for a while that they have to be murdered on screen?

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Hell, he was tickled pink when Rico lost to Kane in 30 seconds. Well, no shit. Rico had a snowball's chance in Hell (pun intended) of winning that match, so cutting the bullshit and making it a squash and getting to the point made more sense. But what did you find enjoyable in this show? Cena / Guerrero was pretty good. Rico / Charlie of course. I'm digging the runway. And my wish was finally granted seeing a televised rematch between Eddie and Big Show, its a shame the title wasn't on the line.
Guest AfricanAmerican Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I think the ratings will increase a bit next week. American Idol, Survivor, The Apprentice, plus Friends (repeats or not) is pretty tough competition. Now that Apprentice is done for the season, Smackdown should gain back some of that 18-49 year old demographic. The Friends series will also be ending soon, giving WWE something else to look forward to.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 KURT ANGLE WASN'T KILLED OFF! Wow, really? I thought we'd never see him again! That's my point actually. He'd have to be killed from that fall for it to be halfway realistic. People generally don't fall on their head on concrete from 30 feet up with a pool of dark blood oozing out from their skull and come back alive, let alone come back alive and challenge their assaliant to a wrestling match.
