JasonX 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 You know, everytime that you think that the Simpsons has recovered from the crap that the show has been mired in ever since the eighth season, they pull out a show like last night's episode. I mean, you would think that they couldn't fuck up a simple concept like Skinner's wedding to Bart's teacher (especially since the episodes dealing with said relationship have been the high point of the series ever since the show jumped the shark in the fall of 1998). Hell, they even had a perfect storyline to use for the wedding (IE Krabappel's first husband who's abandonment of Edna was a huge part of her character in the first couple of seasons) and they didn't even touch it. And I won't even get into the B-Plot where Homer and Marge realize that their marriage is a sham and that they're only still together because of their sense of moral superiority over the rest of Springfield or Matt Groening's masturbatory "I AM SO GREAT AND SO IS FUTURAMA!" cameo.* *Speaking of which, I fully expect to see the show's producers ramrodding more and more Futurama references down viewers throats what with Family Guy being brought back from the dead. Cause you know it's got to be eating Groening up inside that the show he tried to kill has been given a second life while his abortion Futurama remains banished to cancelled TV hell... In short, last night's episode was a huge ass blow to longtime fans as they undid one of the shining points of the series (the Skinner/Krabappel relationship) and further screwed up with the heart of the show, IE that Marge and Homer love each other. In short, it basically was a huge ass "F-You" to viewers who cared about the characters and their development/growth as opposed to the endless stream of bullshit, flavor of the month guest-stars that the show features or Jerkass Homer's idiotic get-rich-quick scheme #14393332.... Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 The part where Homer was in the tutu made me realize these people have lost their minds.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 19, 2004 You still cared about the characters? Wow I didn't think that was a possibility after every character became a parody of themselves. I mean how long has it been since any of the characters have been fleshed out and three diminsional?
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Worst ever? I don't know about that. But it was pretty bad. And comic book guy shouldn't have gotten laid, killed his character

Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Meh, I don't care about the major characters, so I just laugh at the.. crazed, mindless actions. It's better that way.
Mik 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 I caught this while waiting for the Sopranos. I never really watch the Simpsons anymore, except for syndication, so I had thought it was a repeat. It certainly was a bad episode.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 its really odd how they have changed the characters from say, characters, to spoofs of who they once were. How are the Simpsons doing ratings wise anyways? I mean shows with actual characters get crushed (check sig) maybe these cookie cutter characature character shows like Family Guy, Simpsons (current) and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are where the ratings are. razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Is it weird to say that South Park is the best show of its kind today? Half the time Aqua Teen Hunger Force never makes sense, such as the case with characters showing up and never shutting up about how they are all-powerful or from the future or whatever.........damn the robot turkeys. Exactly how many cartoon sitcoms are on tv, I can only think of 4 (South Park, King of the Hill, Simpsons, and the new Sci-Fi show). I would not count the Adult Swim shows since they are not 30 minute programs.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Really? Actually I liked it and thought it was one of the better episodes from the last few years.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Anyone who's watching cartoons for realistic characterization and plotline shouldn't be watching cartoons. I however deal with them only for cheap laughs, which is what most people do I figure, hence random dumb shit works.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 I actually thought that the Groening was hyped as the 'creator of Futurama' was a crack at the fact that the show bombed. He's famous for 3 things (Life is Hell, Simpsons and Futurama) and one of the 3 did bad, yet that one is the thing that he was hyped as doing. See, the joke is thus on him, not an attempt to salvage Futurama. Plus, I doubt that he has a hard time sleeping seeing how one of his creations is the longest running comedy in TV history. In the grand scheme of things, Family Guy is a footnote in TV history (as is Futurama) while the Simpsons will be remembered. And to call Skinner/Krabapple a 'shining point' of the series is a bit of an exaggeration. Strike that, it's a huge exaggeration. Lastly, to look for character development in a cartoon series that's basically a non-series is foolish. (I don't know if there's an actual word for it, but by "non-series" I mean that each week doesn't necessarily lead into the next. By this defintion: The Sopranos would be a series, Curb Your Enthusiasm would not.)

The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Was this episode really as bad as "The Principal & The Pauper"? Because *that* was horrendous (another episode that happened to center around Skinner)
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted April 19, 2004 How are the Simpsons doing ratings wise anyways? It got beat by everyone but UPN and WB. CBS: Cold Case 8.3 NBC: Dateline 6.4 ABC: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (no definite number yet) FOX: Simpsons 5.4 WB: Charmed 2.5 To answer your question, not so well. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Sadly, it'll probably get worse before it gets better...because I doubt FOX will pull the plug on the show for quite a while, and Groening'll keep going for as long as possible.

Each series except for the first has had a plot that begins in the first episode and ends in the last (Season 2 - pitching TV series to the networks, Season 3- The Restaraunt, Season 4- Producers). I know this is a thread about the Simpsons, but I just thought I'd point out what (I think) is an error.

What happened was that some many episodes were written and completed, but due to all the pre-emptions on FOX during the 7:00-8:00 timeslot on a Sunday night, the episodes never all saw the light of day until years after they were made. Im reminded of "Written by: David 'Watch Futurama' Cohen" from ToH IX although that was right around the time that Futurama was starting. I didn't really see anything wrong with last nights episode, although it wasnt funny, but none of the episodes have been that funny this year so it was normal. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 OMG TEH SIMPSONS SUCK NOW~!!! Did we really need yet another topic about how the Simpsons fall from grace continues? You people are beating this dead horse more than the folks in the WWF folder are with the HHH horse. Calling it the worst episode is beyond stupid and I guess it won't surprise you that I thought it was pretty funny. I didn't care for the Homer / Marge subplot, but I though the overall show delivered some good laughs. The series is clearly not what it once was, but for the love of all that's holy, stop making threads every week to announce it.

NYU 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 So, for those of us that didn't get a chance to watch the Simpsons last night, does anyone mind recapping the episode? Mainly the conclusion of the Skinner/Edna wedding and this whole Homer/Marge storyline. It's a little tough to decipher the clues in everyone's posts.....
