Guest Dynamite Kido Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I have several of these things from years ago, and I was at the drug store this weekend and say a copy there on the magazine rack. I figured because I haven't gotten one in years that I would pick it up. Now I know that you can get most of this stuff off the net, but I find this one of the better items to have for reference. Anyone else here ever pick these up or see one, if so what do you think?

He was never even a number one, I call BS on this one or should I say I call PWI on this one.

Slayer Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 I used to get them from '95-'99 or so, but I stopped because 1) the internet had become a better reference and 2) This was around the time belts started changing hands more often as well as on stupider technicalities, and I didn't want an almanac clogged up with PWI trying to kayfabedly track such things

Never ranked #1, but was always high on the list, and I don't think ever lower than 30. 2.) In years where he wasn't, he was inactive, like 1997, and probably 2001-on, while greats like Ric Flair slowly go further back on the list ever year. 3.) It was based on average, so its not like it's bias.

It's pretty good reference material, and it's always interesting to see who/what ranks in their Achivement Awards section, even if you agree or not. Sting ranking #1 in their Average 500 thingie really pisses me off. Even stiffs like both Steiners or Jeff Jarrett get ranked pretty high. Granted, Scott Steiner was awesome back in the day, so I guess that's why he's Top 10. In Jarrett's case, he ranked for every year of the PWI 500, so that gives him advantage. One error they never seem to correct is the Bossman/Shamrock vs Owen/Jarrett WWF Tag Title change in their listings. It hasn't appeared on ANY Almanac since it happened. Weird.

I was looking at my 97 one the other day and wondered if they had one out this year. Thanks for the confirmation, I guess I had better start looking lol btw is there any way to order it online or somethin? i bought a pwi issue about a year and a half ago and it had an order form with all the almanacs from 96-2002 (except for 99 for some reason) oh well

I meant that that Title change is not listed on the Almanac, they skipped it. Or did they? I'm confused now so I'll have to check if it's that exact match that's not listed, but I'm positive they've skipped one, maybe the previous one or the next after the mentioned match.

What I meant was that it was missing on the RAW Tag Titles List on the Almanac. You say it's there, then fine, I thought it wasn't. Maybe I'm confusing it with the previous Title change (NAO I believe?) or most likely the next title change, which I don't remember. Point is, the list was missing one Title change for several editions, including the last two, 2002, and 2003. If they corrected it this year then everything's great. I meant to check it yesterday but forgot so I'll do it later today and clear everything up.

Look, Rico has a singles victory in the almanac! But I hate how they always forget Benoit in their Us title history.

In the 2002 Almanac, it goes Billy Gunn & Jesse James (8-30-98) and then to Owen Hart & Jeff Jarrett (1-25-99), skipping over BBM/Shamrock who won it the night after Rock Bottom, but are still credited with the title loss. The 2004 Edition has this corrected.
cbacon Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 I hate how they insist on using their own lingo (ie "Smackdown" and "RAW" champions rather than WWE and World and how they used several old monikers such as Rocky Maivia, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Big Van Vader years after they changed names). Other than that, i enjoy the almanac as a reference to. How do they cover the lineage of the RAW title though?
