Damaramu Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Ok we know it's all happened. You're sitting there like "Man this guy is going to be something some day! He's great!" And then you hear of something stupid he did or said and you're like "What a retard! I can't believe he just did that!" I started this thread b/c I just read that OU backup QB Paul Thompson who was going to be red shirted this year and given the keys to the car next year after White left was arrested last night for a DUI. And it made me go "What a fucking moron. What the fuck is wrong with you?" And then I started thinking of other stupid things athletes have said or done that make you go "What!? WHY!?" So share some stupid things athletes have done that were, could be, or luckily didn't turn out to be career damaging.

Dr. Tom Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Steve Lyons, after sliding into first base, pulling his pants down to get some dirt out of his drawers. He said he just forgot where he was...
Guest Redhawk Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Speaking of Thompson, I read that after he threw for 300+ yards in the spring game, a lot of OU fans wanted him to replace White this year. White had two bad games and people want him gone? Y'all seem to be a fickle bunch down there.

White had two bad games and people want him gone? Y'all seem to be a fickle bunch down there. Those are what are known as fair weather fans. The real fans know there bread is buttered with the guy that won the Heisman trophy and had a 5 to 1 TD/INT ratio. I think that's the nature of all fans though.
Rob E Dangerously Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Vince Coleman throws a firecracker out of his car How about this with Andre Rison? Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Andre Rison was accused by police of giving them false information after a bar fight. Rison was waived Monday, a week after receiving the citation in River Falls, Wis., site of the team's training camp. Rison was not arrested for the Aug. 7 incident, and the citation is not a criminal offense. Police said no charges are pending, but Rison was fined $219.50 and has an appearance in municipal court set for Sept. 13. Police reports in River Falls indicate that in the early-morning hours of Aug. 7, a verbal confrontation at a River Falls bar involving Chiefs players and other people escalated into a fight. One of the people reportedly involved identified himself to police as Brock Middlebrook, but one of the officers recognized him as Rison.

'Cause I know Rison hasn't played in a while. But, yeah, a Black guy named Brock Middlebrook? Suuuuuure, Andre.
Rob E Dangerously Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 I think this was 1999. Rison's career with the Raiders never really worked for him, considering he was still wanted in Johnson County, Kansas for stolen stereo equipment (I think)
NoCalMike Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 "It's war out there, I'm a fuckin' soldier" Kellen Winslow Jr. Carl Lewis singing the national anthem at a basketball game. Robin Ventura getting his ass kicked by Nolan Ryan Shaq, "tell Yao Ming, ching chong kong" Just to name a SMALL few.
Vern Gagne Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Carl Lewis singing the national anthem at a basketball game. Don't forget about Carl throwing out the ceremonial first pitch during a game last season. Gus Ferotte ramming his head into the brickwall after a TD. John Smoltz ironing his shirt...while he's wearing it.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Bill Grammatica tearing his ACL after jumping around like a moron after making a FG.
Guest Redhawk Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Mike Sherman calling Warren Sapp a "chickenshit" to his face. Mitch Green calling Mike Tyson a "homo." Dennis Rodman.....being like he is.
NoCalMike Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Peter McNeely, telling reporters that they were all gonna have a big dump in their pants, after he beats Tyson. LOL
Bored Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Eric Byrnes. Miguel Tejada. Game 3. 2003 ALDS. Need I say more? Would have swept the series if those two had their head out of their asses although the umpires did screw up on the play as well.
Ripper Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Allen Iverson talking about PRACTICE! Oh for christ sake, does anyone even try to remember the REST of the sentence. "I played hurt for this city, played my heart out day in and day out, help take this team to the finals and yall here to talk about trading me because of practice? PRACTICE?" He WAS right.

Would have swept the series if those two had their head out of their asses although the umpires did screw up on the play as well. you're gonne make me cry, remembering that play. An umpire awarding Tejada home plate, and then call him out because "he didn't run to home plate" WOW.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Rob Dibble. Every fucking word that comes out of his mouth. It always has been that way too.
Styles Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 'bout Ricky Davis trying to rebound off the opposition's backboard so he could get a triple double?
NoCalMike Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 The ref awarding Kobe Bryant free throws after he forearms/elbows Bibby in the face trying to get shake free to take an inbound pass(NBA Western Conference Finals, 2002)
JHawk Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Jose Canseco allowing a home run off his head. Who was that one football player that ran the wrong way on a fumble recovery and got credit for something like -64 yards? This was decades ago, but I remember reading about that.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Allen Iverson talking about PRACTICE! and Rasheed Wallace "Both teams played hard" comments at press conferences. That Rasheed interview was great. Totally taking the piss out of the usual cliche-filled interviews we get from pro athletes.
razazteca Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 'bout Ricky Davis trying to rebound off the opposition's backboard so he could get a triple double? Bob Sura did the same thing, but this time the league did not give him credit for the Triple Double.

This was decades ago, but I remember reading about that. I think it was Jim Marshall. If not him, then someone on the Vikings...

The Czech Republic Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Can someone clarify this whole Rasheed Wallace "both teams played hard" thing? Everyone is mentioning it.
Guest Smues Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 Can someone clarify this whole Rasheed Wallace "both teams played hard" thing? Everyone is mentioning it. If I'm thinking of the right thing at a post game press conference Rasheed responded to every question with "Both teams played hard."
Guest Redhawk Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 During the playoffs, the NBA has a rule that basically says every player/coach has to make themselves available for the media. Not that everyone has to go to the postgame press confernces, but whoever the media requests has to go. Rasheed would frequently blow these things off and jet after the game, which IMO should be his right. So the league fined him for not going and told him he'd better go next time. So after a Portland-Dallas playoff game, Rasheed went to the press conference, and for every question asked of him just said, "Both teams played hard."

I wish I could remember that shit... It seems every day another athlete does something mindboggling. I thought the shit Terrel Owens pulled this year was pretty funny...I'm going to be a free agent, fuck Jeff Garcia and the Niners, then he and his agent blow the whole thing. Though, he did get his way in the end. I thought the story about Rasheed following a referee out to his car after a game, was pretty crazy, though totally expected.
