Eugene Training Segment

Recommended Posts

Guest wrestlingbs

When Eugene's character was announced, I along with many others thought it would be a horredous angle that would only ruin Nick Dinsmore and offend many others. But I think tonight's "training video" with Regal proved beyond any doubt that they are on to something. Everything in the segment seemed to click; it was like Foley's training videos circa early 1999. The Eugene character isn't portrayed as dumb or lesser than others, but rather happy and gifted in his own way. And it was the little things, like Dr. Tom cheering in the background, the HHH water bottle, and Regal's facial expressions that made it work. bravo to whom ever directed the segment.

I didn't like Dr. Tom's cheering, and the Ride of the Vaklyries music being used. It seemed way too campy. Everything else amused me, though, especially the water bottle.

You know what? Im gonna have to agree with you. Just like everyone else I thought that Eugene would just plain stupid, but the segment was quite entertaining in my opinion. I also like how despite trying to get rid of him Regal cant help but start to like the little bugger.

The true test will still be his match next week though. Its seems like a sure thing that Eugene will get the "upset" victory over Rob Conway, but it should be entertaining to see just how good Eugene does in this match wrestling wise.

By the way, did anyone notice whos action figure Eugene was holding at that one part?

I've never seen Dinsmore before, but just watching those brief clips, he looks incredibly crisp in the ring which is a nice departure from these immobile lugs they keep calling up.

Here's hoping WWE allows him to go all out in his matches. A savant with a special talent for wrestling could be really good, and continue to be entertaining without becoming offensive if they produce more hokey segments like the one on RAW.

"Everyone" didn't think the character would be stupid. I most certainly didn't.

Fine then near everybody.

Either way I like the way Eugene is starting to turn out, and after all the matches made for next week, Eugene vs. Rob Conway is the one I look the most forward to, well aside from Jericho vs. Christian in the cage of corse, hopefully after that match the fued will be over.

I'm not that up to date on OVW happenings, but I'm going to assume Conway and Dinsmore hooked up a few times down there. Anyone know if they were any good (assuming the happened, of course)?

Judging from the OVW Title history, they've faced each other many times over several years. They've also been tag champs together 10 times. Can't comment on quality.

That's a good point. At least for Dinsmore's first match he'll be in the ring with someone he's had a heap of experience with. This might not be half bad

Actually, considering how long they were in OVW together (Dinsmore started in 1996 and Conway in 97), they haven't had as many matches against each other as you'd think, as they're always usually on the same side of the heel/face fence and heel vs heel or face vs face matches are kind of rare in OVW. If your looking for an example of how good Dinsmore can be, the October and November 2002 TV blocks are a good place to start he had two very good matches as part of the "Run For The Rumble" gauntlet series, one against Conway and the other against Danny "Damaja" Basham. Other standout matches for Dinsmore are the one vs Doug Basham from "Last Dance" 2001 (where he put his career against Basham's mask) and his series of matches against Johnny Jeter after he returned from injury last year.

I'm of the belief if given a bit of time (hopefully at least 7-8 minutes) and not too much reliance on comedy spots, Dinsmore and Conway will have a very good match.

Regal going face-to-face with the HHH water-bottle = priceless. God that segment ruled tonight, I expected it to be worse.

I had a good feeling about the segment going into last night and I absolutely loved it! It made me proud to own that Triple H sippy cup (I bought it off of shopzone for kicks).

I may be mistaken, but weren't Conway & Dinsmore a tag team in OVW? "The Lords of the Ring" or something like that?

Yeah, for quite a long time methinks, I'm also pretty sure they feuded before they teamed up?

:headbang: Everyone seemed to miss my favorite part of the segment...at the beginning, Regal is talking to Dr. Tom outside the ring, and Eugene is messing around in the background, and breaks out the Iron Claw on an imaginary opponent.

Seeing as we in the UK don't get Raw until Friday I have to say that I am really looking forward to seeing the Eugene/Regal training segment. It sounds pretty damn funny.

I'll admit I hated the idea of the Eugene gimmick and when he debuted on Raw I hated him. However, over the past couple of weeks I have grown to like Eugene (kinda like Regal has) and am now looking forward to his first match on Raw. I hope it's a good one.

Go Eugene!

I'm just waiting for the lame and predictable Regal heel turn.

What I think is that they need to have several guys beating Eugene down and Regal acts like he's going to leave thinking "Ha! I've finally rid myself of him!" Then Regal's heart suddenly grows 3 sizes(like the grinch!) and he runs back to the ring and makes the big save! It'll immediately make Regal a big face.

Just don't have him turn on Eugene.....jeez.....

I'd like to see things go like that. Having Regal become Eugenes friend is a better idea then having him just turn on him.

That whole Eugene segment just ruled all. It was funny from beginning to end. My family was watching it too, and were shocked when he did the arm drag. My mom went "Holy shit, he did that!" I marked out when he made Regal tap to his own Regal stretch.

On a side note, I think the Triple H water bottle has more charisma than Triple H himself...

And that was your HHHating of the day, brought to you by Muggy.

This whole thing has a bizarre "Of Mice and Men" vibe to it.

Which will probably mean that, in the end, Regal puts Eugene out of his misery for good. Now THAT's a heel turn.

Someone explain the water bottle joke to me, I didn't watch and everyone is coo'ing over it.

He eased the HHH mean-face water bottle (the head was pretty big and had that cro-mag look to it) into a shot and had it look face to face with Regal, then Eugene did the "pose, spit water" thing.

Anyone else get the Coliseum Home Video skit vibe from the Eugene training session.

The better one was when dramatic music was playing, and they cut to a tight shot of Regal's face, then Eugene's, then the HHH water bottle.

Honestly, if you didn't see the idiot savant angle coming from last week, you should be ashamed of yourselves. The only problem with the angle/gimmick is that it limits Dinsmore. You can't have an autistic World Champ, or even Intercontinental Champ. He'll just wallow in the midcard, no matter how great in the ring or how over he is. It's just the way it is.
