Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Well, yesterday for three hours, I merged my newer cards in my Fleer Collector's Card Album with my older, much larger collection of cards from another folder. WWE WrestleMania XIX, The Flintstones Movie, Fox, Ren & Stimpy, The Simpsons, over 20 sets of NBA and other Basketball cards, Baseball, Football, Cricket, The Lion King, The X-Files, The Power Rangers Movie, X-Men, other Marvel additions, as well as other random additions. I'm going to hunt down my old Pokemon collection (come on, Pokemon was a phenomenon!) and add it. How about your card collection? Additions? Subtractions? Trades? Favourite things about it? Tell!
Agent_Bond34 Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I like my card collection. I already did most of my subtractions ages ago, took out all the cards I didn't want, etc. Mine are all in separate card albums. My card collection consists of NFL, NBA and old X-Men cards from 1995 that are still in good shape, as well as a few NHL cards, too. I have cards of all 32 NFL teams, I also have an autographed Michael Vick card (package insert) When I checked it's value last, it was said to be over $50. I also have a Deion Branch Senior Bowl jersey card, too.
Aero Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I collected just about ALL of the Marvel cards when I was little. I probably have most of them put away in the attic somewhere, but last month I just bought brand-new sealed boxes of Marvel Series III and Marvel Masterpieces Series I for nostalgia off Ebay. Awesome sets.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I really wish I'd gotten into Marvel cards, and trading cards in general.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I collected cards when I was a kid; mostly with the big four -- baseball, football, basketball and hockey. I have some cards from movies (Indy Jones 2, Jaws 2, etc.) and some old wrestling cards. I was never into Garbage Pail Kids though. Most of my sports cards are from the mid 80s to early 90s, although I do have a fair amount of cards from the 70s, and a few from the 60s, too. I stopped collecting around '93 because it wasn't becoming fun anymore. Sorry, but I grew up during a time when a pack of cards cost 50 cents to $1 and you got 15-20 cards. I look now and it's like $5 for 3-5 cards. F' that. There are a bunch of cards that I like, but when it comes to cash value (I haven't done an inventory in years) I think my most valuable are a Jerry Rice Topps rookie, a Lawrence Taylor Topps rookie and a Barry Sanders Score rookie. In baseball, I have a lot of guys from 84-88 like Bonds, Ripken, etc. Basketball and Hockey are mostly from the late 80s-early 90s, but I do have some older cards (Roy 87, Laimbeer rookie). I also have a bunch of old stickers that you used to buy to put in books -- not sure if these are worth anything, nor do I really care. Funny story: The last time I did an inventory check of any kind on this stuff was in '99 (I can't remember the time before that I did an inventory check), and I was going through my boxes of "common" cards, and I found cards containing players like Randy Johnsona and Pedro Martinez early in their careers. My how time can change...
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 I mainly collect Basketball & Baseball cards. I on occasion, get into CCG's, which included Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon (ugh. I feel so dirty), The Simpsons, Star Wars, WWF RAW Deal, Harry Potter, etc. etc. My Baseball card collection consists of a LOT of 1984-present stuff. Lot's of rookie cards of great players, special cards, etc. etc. I don't have the heart to throw out shitty players or cards that are worth like $0.05. Basketball is a lot smaller, but it's a pretty big collection, mainly consisting of stuff from the late 80s through present. Same applies. I recently threw out a lot of Hockey & NFL cards because they are either shitty, or I just don't care about them. Also chalk me up for old crap like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and old WWF Classic Cards.
Nighthawk Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 Garbage Pail Kids, I love the motherfuckers. I've got just about all of them. I only have one sports card, but it's a good one. A Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card.
Jer Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 The only thing I really collected seriously were Magic cards. I started playing in 1994 and played pretty seriously until about 2000, when I sold off my collection so that I could try to get a life instead of wasting college playing Magic. My collection was pretty valuable. There were lots of old cards in our circle because we all started playing early, and I tended to be a little smarter than my friends when it came to trading. I tended to collect weird stuff, like I decided to get a set of Djinns and Efreets, which I was proud of because I got it almost entirely through trading (although I did finally give in and buy the Juzam and some of the more obscure Arabian stuff). I got about $600 for the collection when I sold it, although I wish I had hung onto some of it, since the values on old stuff has suddenly gone way up over the last two years. My Collector's Edition set especially, just that is worth more now than I got for the entire collection because P9 have become so expensive that CE P9 now have real value. Oops. Oh well. I collected Marvel cards as a little kid too. I remember really liking Series 3 because they had all those cool stats. I still remember stupid trivia, like Mephisto having the highest total stats of any villian and Adam Warlock having the highest of any hero and Ego having the highest of anyone. Heh I'm such a dork.
Ced Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I stopped playing Magic: The Gathering back in 2000 and sold off my collection for $200, but now I have a small collection of cards again. Somewhere hidden in my home and stashed in a Pop-Tarts box I have a decently-sized collection of football cards that I started when I was still in elementary school. Unfortunately, it's the Pro Set collection, which I imagine still doesn't have that much value.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I too sold off my Magic card collection but have since have gathered enough cards for a deck and to do variations on it to school the occasional person.
Blue Bacchus Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I collect mostly CCGs/TCGs. I still have all of my Star Wars CCG, Star Trek 1st Edition CCG, and Raw Deal. I still play Raw Deal competitively, and went 2-2 in a tournament today with Eric Bischoff using Freakzilla as my Enforcer. Should have used Austin
DerangedHermit Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I collect Magic cards, and I'm starting to get a better collection. Highlights: - ITL Mana Drain (in the mail) - DCI Foil Intuition - 2 Foil Deranged Hermit - 1 Foil Decree of Justice - 4 Troll Ascetic (1 foil) - 3 Ravenous Baloth - 2 Exalted Angel - 2 non-foil Decree of Justice - 1 Intuition - 4 BoP - 4 Gaea's Cradle - 4 Masticore - 1 Arcbound Ravager - 4 Wooded Foothills, Polluted Delta, Windswept Heath - 1 Flooded Strand - 2 Bloodstained Mire - 1 Vampiric Tutor - 4 Tropical Island (2 Italian) - 1 Underground Sea
Guest Coffey Posted May 9, 2004 Report Posted May 9, 2004 I play Magic as well. I quit for awhile, and sold my collection for $1,500 a few years back. Actually, it really hasn't been that long I guess. It was back during Masques...because I had twenty-two Rishadan Ports and they were still around twenty bucks a piece because they were legal for Standard still. I play competitively still. I've run into a slump recently, but I believe I'm still qualified for the Pro Tour by rating for Team Trios...unless they've raised the rating requirement again. I'd like to qualify and get on the Pro Tour in a solo effort however. I failed miserably at qualifying for Nationals at this years Regionals. I played Ravager Affinity and just ran into hate all day.
LivingLegendGaryColeman Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 It's funny this thread came back up, because I recently started getting some cards again. I used to collect all the time and have a huge collection of baseball and basketball ranging from all over. I have a couple assorted football and a couple complete sets here and there of different wrestling or Marvel cards, along with scatters of every fad/movie from the 80s/90s you can imagine. I recently started collecting a lot of cards again, because of all the hype this NBA rookie class is getting. They are starting to make some of the rookie cards more rare again and if this Rookie class lives up to their potential, I should have some good pulls. In doing that, I've managed to pick up a couple near sets, a couple random things for basketball and decided to do the same with baseball this year.
