Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 I'm going to wait until there's confirmation on how serious Wood's arm problem is (if at all) before I panic. Oh, and I don't think they'd ever move Farnsworth into the #5 spot. Ever.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Well, the Yankees are showing the league the repercussions for throwing a ball in our star's face. Nothing.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Fat cow plate umpire showing extreme bias. He should immediately be fired. Hey PIGGY, when the ball is at the man's ANKLES, that's a BALL. Go into the Yankees dugout and beg them to beat the hell out of you, you worthless sack of shit. If you can't stand being there for nine innings, QUIT. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 13, 2004 (edited) So, let's recap. The Yankees let the Angels break Posada's nose, let Molina tell A-Rod how to play baseball, and let Guillen try to intimidate the pitcher with no retaliation. Edit: And they let the Angels laugh at our pitcher? Why there's no one lying in a quivering mass at homeplate I have NO IDEA. Oh, and I don't think they'd ever move Farnsworth into the #5 spot. Ever. The vaunted Chicago pitching staff: Clement, Zambrano, Maddux, Mitre, Dempster. How's about that. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Wow. Keep the Marlins' bullpen out of the game and you've got a recipe for success. Come on Cubbies...here's your chance to somehow only be 2 games back of the Astros, despite them playing as well they possibly can. Don't blow it.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Wow. Keep the Marlins' bullpen out of the game and you've got a recipe for success. Truer words have never been spoken. Best part is he only threw about 90 pitches.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Yeah, 90 pitches against an all right-handed Houston lineup that has been mashing the ball all year. Truly a gem.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Odd Phils/Giants game. 4 HR's already (none by Bonds, but Jason Schmidt has 1), but it's only a 3-2 game. 3 solo for the Giants, and 1 for the Phils.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Damn good pitching by Cory Lidle tonight (8 IP, 2 ER, 4 K, 85 Pitches). Too bad he hasn't gotten any run support. 2-1 going to the bottom of the 9th, lets see if we can get to Hoffman. Lidle has been very good and deserving much better than what his overall numbers loook right now (ERA has lowered to 4.70 now). Lets go Freel .. Valentin .. and Hummel.. erm, yeah, or something. No win. But a good game (on the pitching side, atleast - many wasted opps by the Reds).

Come on Cubbies...here's your chance to somehow only be 2 games back of the Astros, despite them playing as well they possibly can. Don't blow it. Ya jinxed it. I was out grabbing some grub with some buddies of mine and since there were few people around, we had the TV to ourselves, so of course, I turned it on ESPN2. Clement looked pretty strong from what I saw, but I knew it was gonna be all downhill once they scored. The Cubs offense is just crap right now, but to their credit, they're playing one of the hottest, if not the hottest team in baseball right now, which has great pitching all around and a potent lineup. As an aside, Alou had every right to complain before he got tossed. That sinker was well below his knees once it reached the plate. I always enjoy seeing Alou get all pissy for some reason, so at least that was enjoyable. I may be avoiding reality, but I think things will begin to settle down a bit once the Cubs get back home and it's the Stros turn to face these Dodgers and Padres. And thankfully, it looks like Wood is only going to miss his next start.

And thankfully, it looks like Wood is only going to miss his next start. I didn't see Alou get tossed. I had to turn it off after the top of the 4th and get some sleep. It's always great to see Moises go nuts though because he always seems so calm and collected. I also agree with you about things settling down once the Cubs get back home. I look at it this way: the Cubs are hanging in there, with a depleted team. The Astros have no injuries to speak of, and are playing about as well as they possibly can (against a relatively weak schedule). They WILL cool off, and when they do, I think the Cubs' window opens...particularly if Woody isn't out long and Prior comes back very strong. I can't believe Farnsworth actually managed to throw an entire scoreless inning while walking only one guy last night. He must really like LA.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 One thing no one has mentioned is that Wade Miller left the game last night for the Astros complaining of stiffness in his neck, which is the same thing that caused him to miss eight or nine starts last year. He says it's nothing serious and that he won't miss a start, but I think it might be worth keeping an eye on.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 It's always great to see Moises go nuts though because he always seems so calm and collected. Exactly. The announcers even noted what a cool customer he usually is. He was actually still pretty calm while he continued to challenge the strike zone of the home plate ump. Once he got tossed, he just strolled back over and kept saying stuff, never really erupting or anything, but he was clearly pissed. Everytime he gets out, he's got this pissed off slow stride he does, while remaining cool and collected (most of the time). The expression on his face everytime is like he's just been screwed over big time. I love it. Of course, regardless of how often he's calm, there have been those times where he wears his emotions on his sleeve. I remember one game against the D-Backs last year where he struck out and just turned around and slammed his bat into the ground with an overhand chop. Awesome stuff. Agreed. That isn't to take anything away from the Stros, but they've been playing a lot of the teams that the Cubs were playing and having the same results. I expect more of the same when the lock up with the Mets this weekend. Anyway, I think we'll get a better prespective of the two teams after they play each other approximately 83 times in the next month and a half. Speaking of the Cubs upcoming schedule, it's gonna be tough, especially June. From here until July, they don't see many teams outside of the Cards, Stros, Angels and A's. Thankfully they'll be catching the A's before the second half of the season and the A's while they're still a pretty depleted squad, themselves. One thing no one has mentioned is that Wade Miller left the game last night for the Astros complaining of stiffness in his neck, which is the same thing that caused him to miss eight or nine starts last year. He says it's nothing serious and that he won't miss a start, but I think it might be worth keeping an eye on. I don't want to wish misfortunes on anyone, but that wouldn't hurt the Cubs (or the Central) if this neck thing were a relapse of last season's injury. You gotta figure that every team is going to have their fair share of injuries throughout the year, so it's not unlikely. Speaking of injuries, is Pettite's elbow back to normal or is there a chance that he'll have another problem down the stretch?
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Speaking of injuries, is Pettite's elbow back to normal or is there a chance that he'll have another problem down the stretch? There has been little discussion of it around these parts, so I'd have to figure that it's ok. I think the Astros have lifted the 80-90 pitch limit they had for him when he first came back, so I guess they feel it's fine. I think the key to that one was that he hurt it while swinging the bat and not on the mound.
Styles 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Game 1 of O's/White Sox Double header: Orioles win 1-0. In his major league debut Daniel Cabrera pitches 6 shutout innings. If I can steal a bit from the White Sox announcers: You can...put it on the booooaaaarrrrrrd, YES! Game 2 coming up in about 20 minutes, doubtful though because of storm's approaching.
