After seeing Eddie's match with JBL, and seeing it mentioned along with it, what is it? What are the origins of it? and what is the actual scale?

I know it has to do with how much the wrestler bleeds, but that's all I know. I'm also assuming it refers to the Great Muta.

Sorry if this should be elsewhere.

According to Scott Keith, Muta did a blade job where he bled all over the ring, outside the ring, his opponent and the referee. Muta's bladejob is considered a 1.0, which is the bloodiest ever.

Other nominations: austins @ WM 13 and Undertakers at NM 02.

I would add HBK's bladejobs at Badd Blood 97 and Survivor Series 2003 to that list, I mean when he stood up there was a huge puddle of blood all over the ring...

And Steve Corino's efforts from 2000, especially Hardcore Heaven vs Taijiri and Heatwave against Jerry Lynn...

Let's not forget Chris Jerichos blade job from Night of the Legends (SMW). I forgot what went wrong, but he was gushing everywhere because he bladed with his left hand (I'm assuming the pain killers for his broken arm were the problem)

The Muta scale came from a match that Great Muta had against Hiro Hase sometime around 1992, I believe. Muta did bleed a lot, but Keith was wrong in calling it the nastiest bladejob ever. Jericho's from NoL was worse, and technically the Mass Transit incident was kinda sorta a bladejob, not to mention dozens of various deathmatches where guys have bled much more.

I knew I shouldn't trust SK for accurate information. Oh well, since I don't have the funds to get Puro tapes, I have to go by whatever I hear and read.

I vaguely remember a Rock bladejob during a cage match where it was actually pumping out of his forehead as the RAW credits ran.

Around 2000 I think. CRZ would know. Damn I miss CRZ's recaps sometimes.

Very nice, but doesn't touch Muta, methinks.

I've seen the match in question (hell, I think I still have it on my PC) and the bladejob is class for two reasons:

1. Hase gets his hands on some big-ass spike, and DRIVES it into Muta. Like, he does it so brutally, it's great.

2. The second you see Muta after the job, he's ALREADY covered in blood. Like, his chest, his face - coated.

The match itself isn't so great...it annoys me, because there's one bit that's literally Hase throwing like, 4 uranges in a row, and then Muta responds with like, 5 backdrops. That bugs me. It ain't bad, but the bladejob is easily the best part of the match.

I will say that 'Taker's bladejob against Brock at HitC was on the same level, if not better. That is just SICK.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Bill Alphonso's gig against Beulah in ECW. You can't really tell how bad it is until you realize that Fonzie's black shirt is drenched in blood.

I didn't get to see Eddie Guerrero's bladejob from Judgment Day but can agree it's looking really bad judging on pictures alone.

And can anybody confirm or deny that the Hiroshi Hase's bladejob in the match prior to The Muta Meter match as is comparatively bad as Muta's (sans misting his own blood).

Ayako Hamada & AKINO vs. LCO - Carnival ARSION '99

I'd say this tag match ranks up there on the Muta Scale on some level.

HHH has had some fucking gushers in his carrer...and even though it wasn't a blade job, Vince being busted open legit by Zack Gowen @ Vegnance 2003 is fucking insane. Watch the replay after the match and they have this crazy shot of the blood just literally pouring out of his head within 1 second after getting dropkicked with the chair in the head.

It's not AS bad, but it is pretty bad.

Yes, I have seen that match as well, but only like, once.

If Vince is dumb enough to have an unfolded chair dropkicked into his face, than he deserves to bleed hardway.

Wasn't it a botched bladejob, due to Zack prematurely kicking the chair (and blade) back into Vince's face?

Yeah, the aspirin thinned his blood, so it came out faster and seemingly more.

It was just sick. Can imagine what kind of day that must have been? First, he breaks his arm. Then he sneaks out of the hospital to have a match. Then he bleeds in one of the most sickest blade jobs ever.

Mutoh's bladejobs from the 95 G-1 were pretty bad as well. He was bleeding like a fiend for about 3 or 4 matches in a 3 day period.

Holy shit, I haven't seen a WWE ring stained with blood that much since...well, never. Austins & Takers did some staining, but not THAT bad.

The pictures do that bladejob NO justcie. If you saw the chairshot that went along with it, you would have feared for Eddie's life. Bradshaw folded that chair completely over his head. We were sure it was hard-way.

When they got close to the announce table, Tazz would keep selling the match while Cole would be (off the headset) asking Eddie if he was OK the whole time.

I'm pretty sure Keith didn't come up w/ the concept for the scale himself.

That's what I was going to mention. That was just nasty - he'd wipe off his face w/ a towel, and then his face would be drenched again in blood. I believe he lost something 30% of his blood.

Talking about Jericho's pain-killers thinning his blood... Back in his prime, Flair would actually start taking aspirin days before a big match with the sole purpose of thinning his blood so that his bladejob would be that much more gruesome.

Now THAT is dedication to your craft.

Does no one remember Bulldog/Bret 1995...Where they soaked the ring in crimson? That shit was amazing.

Bret's gig in WM8 was good too(considering the time frame)

I forgot the Bulldog/Bret one. Vince had the balls to air it on the USA Network in hopes of getting some viewers. I think they aired another IYH5 match, but I don't care enough to remember.

I have the Muta/Hiro Hase match on my comp. I think the fact they used that big ass knife that Japanese soldiers would use to stab themselves before being detained in war to make the blade job is what sets it apart. That and Hiro Hase going cannablistic and licking the blood off his hands.
