Damaramu 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 I was wondering what the some of the most devastating injury's in the history of sports are? I'm not talking about specific injury's I'm referring to a player that has gotten injured and the fans knew right then "Our seasons done.....he's the heart and soul of this team." Like if Jordan had broken his leg during one of the Bulls championship years they probably wouldn't have made it. So what were some injury's you saw and knew it was over.....and then it did turn out to be over?

NYU 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 Chad Pennington breaking his wrist in a meaningless preseason game against the Giants at the beginning of the 2003 season. You just knew that Testaverde wasn't going to do ANYTHING successful for the Jets.... ....which is ironic, because I had the same feeling when Testaverde tore his achilles at the beginning of the 1999 season. When you have Tom Tupa coming out to play as quarterback in the first game of the season, you know that it's pretty much over.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 Jamal Lewis getting injuried during the preseason ended the Ravens superbowl hopes early.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted May 22, 2004 I would say adding Grbac and tossing Dilfer to the curve was what did them in.

jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 Mike Vick for the Falcons last year. I don't know if they were going anywhere anyway, but that pretty much ended the speculation that they would be.

JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2004 Pedro's rotator cuff injury in 01 ended all hope that season Or was it Nomah's wrist? That was a bad year for injuries... Oh yeah, Drew Bledsoe's chest injury tanked the rest of the NFL's season in 01.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 23, 2004 If Favre went down, Green Bay would have go to go down to using Doug fucking Pederson or Craig Nall (The guy I originally pegged as Favre's successor but apparently most aren't sold on him...). Needless to say, without Green, Favre and the Pack could eek into the playoffs. Without Favre..... Hello first losing season since the 80's...

I really believed that they would've gone to the Super Bowl too.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2004 I was quite worried when Jeter separated his shoulder last year on opening day in Toronto, but he was back way earlier than expected, about 6 weeks later.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2004 Baseball's such a long season, with so many players, that it is very difficult for a single injury to completely kill a team's playoff hopes. The best example I could imagine is Babe Ruth '25.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 23, 2004 Although it didn't wreck their season, Willis McGahee's knee flying to pieces is one of the more brutal injuries I've ever seen. Ol' boy for the St. Louis Blues getting his neck slashed on a skate was pretty wicked, too.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2004 This one for the Sabres? And to argue a point in Dama's first post. I would disagree about losing Jordan during the Championship years only because they did win it the year after one of his retirements.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2004 Not quite on-topic here, but I remember cringing when Ernie Mills got popped in the Steelers most recent Super Bowl. Tore his ACL on the play (or some other season-ending injury), but he hung on to the ball...)

They made the playoffs but they never won a championship.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 24, 2004 The Sabres? The world of "sharp" puns is expanding before me. Theismann's leg was pretty ill, but we didn't see the actual piece-by-piece disassembly of a man's leg like with McGahee's. The crooked limb on the turf afterwards, and LT's reaction makes that one worse overall, but for one single disgusting hit, McGahee's knee still makes me cringe..that had to hurt so fuckin' bad.. I don't know any of their names, but I've seen a couple baseball players slide funny, and end up with mangled legs.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Jamal Anderson's Knee blowing up in 1999 after the Falcons rode him to a 14-2 record the year before. Their season was DONE.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 Jason Kendall is easily the sickest baseball injury I've ever seen. Him breaking his foot off on first base then stepping down on the stump is a visual I won't soon forget. I think I have a video link of that Clint Malarchuk skate injury around somehwere. I should post it for the sake of gruesome advancement of this thread.

Oh, that was horrible --- however, even if he was there, Buffalo was going to annihilate LA. -=Mike
