Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I can't believe the crowd in Montreal ate up that Eugene shit tonight. I know it's been getting over the past few weeks, but Canada expects so much better that I figured that the Not Really A Retard would get shit on for once and for all. Instead, they joined the other dogs of Pavlov and cheered it on. And now, coronating your new (and previously old) winner of Best Smart Crowd: New York City. Let's just pray that MSG turns cold on this gag when it comes to town.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Philly > NYC. Calgary > NYC. Canada = not a city. If the US gets seperate cities, so does Canada.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Hailing from Philly, and being an old-school NYC fans hater, I must say that from attending both Philly WWE events and NYC WWE events up at college. The NYC crowds (especially MSG) absolutely destroy the heat and reactions of the Philly crowds. Definately not in other "sports", but NYC has much better WWE fans. Enigma 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 What a worthless thread. This is total flamebait.
Guest JMA Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Shouldn't "Montreal" be in the title instead of "Canada"? And aren't the really vocal smart Canadian fans located in Toronto?
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I think Philly crowds tend to be more smarkish and won't react to just anything you lay out for them. NYC can bring the heat. It is almost a draw.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 First off, Quebec isn't really Canada. It's the screwed up province with faux-Frenchies that the rest of the country hates. At least our naturalized Frenchies, the Cajuns, are actually cool. Montreal doesn't suck for cheering Eugene. They suck for: Cheering SYLVAN GRENIER and chanting his name. Bearing Jeff Hardy signs and chanting "We Want Jeff" (Matt's even in full face mode, so huh?). Using that stupid "popcorn fart" chant. Booing Benoit (okay, booing Edge was cool...but) Doing the na na na na song to when Batista was banned from ringside. First up, that song was never cool, but when JR did it, it got even worse. However, save it for at least kayfabe firings, you idiots. On the bright side, Victoria dancing around and acting like an idiot to no reaction was funny, and them booing Edge was fantastic. At least our naturalized Frenchies, the Cajuns, are actually cool. Technically, they are still part of Canada. Screw the separatists. Cheering SYLVAN GRENIER and chanting his name. It was funny hearing a relatively odd name like Sylvain being in ANY chant, though. He mostly got cheered because of the Quebec flag. It's Hacksaw Duggan Syndrome. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Canada = not a city. If the US gets seperate cities, so does Canada. Doesn't need to be a city if a region shares the same kind of crowd, and Canadian crowds are pretty much alike aside from minor differences.

I'm sure we would notice the subtle differences in crowds if we actually lived there.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Cheering SYLVAN GRENIER and chanting his name. What do you expect? He was the hometown hero. Booing Benoit (okay, booing Edge was cool...but) Yeah, I didn't like that, but at least I did hear a "Lets Go Benoit!" chant.

Doesn't need to be a city if a region shares the same kind of crowd, and Canadian crowds are pretty much alike aside from minor differences. Thing is, THAT REGION (Quebec) is far different than most of the rest of Canada, except for the Bret Hart love. What do you expect? He was the hometown hero. Sylvan sucks, though. You don't see Billy Gunn getting cheered in his hometown, after all.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Quite frankly it's silly for the fans to "cheer on" Benoit against the likes of La Resistance.
treble 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 The goodbye song is a Montreal tradition. Watch any Habs game when they're winning a big game towards the end and the crowd is always singing it.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 La Resistance (Grenier anyways) is a frenchman who plays the part of an america hater, Quebec does much the same not just with America but half of the time for anyone in Canada outside of Quebec. Thus Quebec loves La Resistance....well that and they wave the Quebec flag & Grenier is the home town boy.
Guest JMA Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Sylvan sucks, though. You don't see Billy Gunn getting cheered in his hometown, after all. My guess is that Billy Gunn's hometown isn't known by fans. While Slyvain's hometown is actually part of his gimmick. I still question why they didn't just bill Benoit as being from Montreal for one night. And while Slyvain's in-ring skills may indeed suck, I'd still rather watch him over Billy Gunn. Besides, I like Conway.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I dont care what anyone says anyways I like La Resistance and am happy they won the tag titles, they are afterall the best tag team on Raw, but thats not really saying much when you only have two tag teams on Raw and the other is The Hurricane and Rosey. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Sylvan sucks, though. You don't see Billy Gunn getting cheered in his hometown, after all. If Wrestler X doesn't get cheered in his hometown, that's pretty fucking horrible. Where is Gunn from anyway?
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I always look forward to televised Calgary events. I went to RAW in 2001 there and it was off the fucking charts. For real, bust out your old tapes and re-watch that episode. It was fucking haaaawt.

I'm right there with you. The RAW tag division is bleak, and La Res getting the belts was the right thing to do. The heat they'll get back in the States will be tremendous; they won the World tag-team titles on Memorial Day in a different country. It should be easy for WWE to build up some babyface challengers as well.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 Billy Gunn doesn't get cheered in his hometown, sure. But then again, Billy Gunn doesn't fly the flag of his hometown, so go figure. Who's next coolest when the NYC crowd cheer Eugene then?
