razazteca Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Sounds like one of the best possible shows they could have put on. They didn't overshadow regulars with "big names", they didn't waste time with debuts (which would have meant nothing to the many new fans who wouldn't realise that the new person wasn't part of TNA's roster) and they went some way to building up their top talents (Red, AMW, Styles, etc) for the new fans. Whether that translates into ratings and buys is another matter, but at least they've given it a good shot. The X-Division match was a thing of beauty with nearly everyone doing highspots in a fast tempo match, Total Nonstop Action Impact, INDEED! I still don't know who the members of Team Canada are but I must admit that they did some great spots. To me it was like the 1st time I saw the luchadores in WCW who where more or less unknown to the US fans but well known in their home country. The tag match has made me interested in the X-Cup concept with the battle of international stars, can't wait to see more of Sonjay Dutt! The 1st show will make an impact on fan interest into NWA TNA just like the 6 man luchadore match did in WCW when they 1st appeared in 1996. I thought Teddy Hart was a member of Team Canada. Will he make any apperences on TNA Impact?
The Ghost of bps21 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Teddy Hart was a member of Team Canada. He and Jack Evans both were. Evans is full time in RoH now...so TNA had to replace him. Hart was in Japan when the last X Cup was taped...and they didn't want to fly him in. TNA still likes him...so I suspect we haven't seen the last of Teddy Hart in TNA.
razazteca Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Teddy Hart will be the next La Parka! All it will take is a few X-Division matches on Impact..............hell just have Teddy Hart vs AJ Styles on next week.
Michrome Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 To be honest, I really like the idea behind this, and with some tweaking it could work. First of all, if the show is going to be based around X division nuttiness, I think TNA needs to bring in the great guys for that kind of stuff. Styles and Sabin are perfect for it, but Shane just sucks and Skipper blows more spots than a backyarder. ROH has actually been having a lot of matches in the "X" style lately, the 6-way mayhem matches that have been tearing down the house at every show of theirs. If TNA can look at the one from say, 4/23 in MN...they would have a model to base their big matches on. Guys they should bring in, ignoring my ROH bias that wants to keep them in Ring Of Honor (this policy is going to be over soon anyway, by the looks of it): Jack Evans--PERFECT for multi-man matches, absolutely becomes the star of every one he's in. Matt Sydal--Incredible, explosive talent. A more high-flying oriented, greener version of AJ Styles. Jimmy Jacobs--The gimmick will get over, and you do need SOME bases for these matches that can carry the work part while others fly around. Teddy Hart--Duh. Jay Lethal--The most underrated worker on the Indies. Oozes talent, charisma, etc. Bobby Quance--A great flier, and as strong a technical worker as AJ Styles or Christopher Daniels. This kid has it all. There are loads more too, but just saying....I like the direction, but they need to get the best guys doing it, and it could be a really cool show.
razazteca Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I would like to see The Havana Pitbulls/Brothers on Impact as Team California in some X-Cup matches. Or just have Bobby Quance & Ricky Romero work some tag matches.
syxx2001 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Its a world X-Cup, not a national, although that would be pretty hot. The West vs the South vs the Midwest vs the East
razazteca Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 It could be Team Calgary vs Team Philly vs Team NYC vs Team Florida vs Team Tennessee vs Team Califoria.
syxx2001 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Team Georgia too. Styles, Jason Cross....errr, David Young?
razazteca Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Change Florida to Georgia because it would be easier to feature the NWA Wildside wrestlers.
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 If they had a decent time slot, and didn't have to pay to be on every week, with this show, I think they'd have a real chance in the long run.
BUTT Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Does anyone know where I could find pictures of the set (completed, not the pre-setup pictures posted elsewhere in this folder). I don't get to see TNA until Tuesday and I want to see the six-sided ring and the tunnel that leads down to the ring.
SuperJerk Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 -Double info bars too distracting I liked the info bars a lot too. I love actually being able to see how much time has passed in the match and seeing the results from the PPV at the bottom. I just think they should put everything on one bar at the top.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I like the top bar and how they stick with the time limit. Not to mention who is wrestling. The bottom bars, meh. I can do without.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Hopefully I can figure out some way to start seeing Impact regularly since Dish Network basically screwed me over. Well, I have an illegal Dish Network card I would watch Impact on DirecTV if my dad still had an illegal DirecTV card that still works Dude. You pirate from both satellite providers, and the screwed you? Hoping that I don't derail this topic by doing so, but may I suggest you actually pay for something? Dish will give you Impact! and other programming reliably on their $30/mo plan, and unless you're too young to get a job that should be affordable. Anyway, to keep this somewhat on topic, I agree with NoCalMike, and I hadn't been watching TNA since the Dupp Cupp days. I agree with him on the southerner thing as well, although even way back then they had that NASCAR driver delivering a kick to the crotch to a wrestler, so I know better.
syxx2001 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 This is from the GameFAQS board I also felt like it was missing any real sense of showmanship... it seemed more like "let's flop around and run into each other" instead of "let's put on a show for the audience." Maybe that's what some people like so much... that it's lots of action little "show," but I want to be entertained, and as such, I still prefer WWE. I didnt think people like this actually existed. There people who DONT like the wrestling?
brokentusk16 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I checked the show out today and thought it was pretty good. I would like to see longer matches, a good 8 minutes worth. The X Division stuff was interesting, I hope they stick with that. Hopefully we'll get to see a TNA title defense with some of the bigger names later on (Jarret, Raven, Styles, Killings, D-Lo). Suffice to say, I will definately be tuning in to catch the action.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 This is from the GameFAQS board I didnt think people like this actually existed. There people who DONT like the wrestling? While GameFAQs is a great site for the resources it's named after, it's message boards are a cesspool that would make some of our most stupid banned posters look smart by comparison. It's the kind of board where you'll find people named ~123xxVEGETAxx456~ complaining that the show sucked because it didn't have Undertaker on it.
syxx2001 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 LOL, yeah, I know, I just wanted to share. MORE TO SHARE!~ This is from 411Mania, it makes a point about AMW getting the tag belts back.... My overall thoughts: I thought this was an excellent first show. The set is nice, not too over done, and nice lighting and laser effects. I like the 6-sided ring, and since it was the 1st time for a lot of these guys in it, they did very well. AJ Styles going back to the X Division is not a bad thing, not a demotion and not JJ holding him down. AJ has said numerous times that being the NWA Heavyweight Champion was a goal and something he wanted to accomplish. But, that the X Division was his first love. They now have a better roster of X guys, and the plan seems to be to build Impact around the X Division. Who better than "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles to lead the charge? They want people to know they are not the WWE, that they are different and this is the best way to do it. AMW as Tag Team Champions again is great. The Tag Scene is a bit weak in TNA as well as the WWE. There are people that love tag team wrestling and if they have a solid team like AMW to build off of, they have a chance. Dusty Rhodes is fine in this kind of role, as he is the link to tradition, and always gets a great pop. Shane Douglas will be used as a road agent and back stage announcer, so that is another positive.

There people who DONT like the wrestling? Well, let's not confuse the opening 6-man tag with good wrestling. It was a spot-fest. A decent one --- provided Skipper stayed out. The show was decent. They killed off two of their ME players by sticking them in the tag team and X Divisions. Shark Boy should not have been Abyss' sacrificial lamb --- and Don West seemed to have reverted back to hyper-irritating mode. And Jarrett is a crap choice for champ. -=Mike
JustJoe2k5 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Like him or not, Jeff Jarrett is still the best man to carry the NWA title into their new show. He is their most recognizable star and can get people to tune into the show each week in hopes of seeing him get his ass kicked. I can tell TNA is trying to get all of their title belts on stable champions, and A.J. Styles can easily carry the X-Division back to the prominence it had in '02.

At the risk of sounding like a cliche: What about Raven?
NoCalMike Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Raven sounds like a good choice, as does RVD if he leaves wwe in a month. I used to pirate D!sh too, but the problem is, unless you have someone that is good with programming the smart cards, you will get mixed results, for example, the first time I had a pirated card, I recieved all the ppv, sports, and porn channels, but he didn't program all the regular premium channels like hbo, showtime etc........plus with satellite stealing, nothing ever lasts, unlike a cable blackbox that works forever.

Michrome Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Jarrett is sure "recognizable"...as a midcard country singer, and as WCW champ during the death run.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Wrestling at 4am! Yeah! For the first time seeing TNA (other than when I was able to watch the Ultimate X Match 1 on "ON Demand" a couple weeks ago). Hasn't beem bad but Im not going to spend $10 on the PPV.
Styles Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Wrestling at 4 AM!!! Yeah I have to work this morning at 6 am, so I figured I'd just stay up and watch it "live". I LOVED the set and the atmosphere. Looked very professional and exciting and high tech. Graphics were cool too and it's obvious that they like having the FSN bar at the top. I like the idea of implimenting time limits and judge's decisions for time limits for Impact! to give it a more "sports" like feel on the sports station. Crowd was great, nothing like those WCW tapings, way into it and loud the whole time and a good majority seemed to be big time wrestling fans. I thought I saw a few of the Nashville regulars in the crowd too! Didn't mind the 6 sided ring, but can't say it stood out too much either. It provides for more action in tag matches though. They did a good job using it as a infomercial for the PPV with professional looking ads for the upcoming PPV and the crawler with results at the bottom was a good idea too. It all blended in well with the FSN sports format. Tag title change was a good idea to give Impact! a newsworthy event, and AJ to to the X division is a good idea in the short term since he is the most marketable star and the best to build around if they want to use the X division to sell more PPVs to the Impact! viewers. A good first start. I'd like in the future to see longer matches but I understand that they only have 1 hour and it needs to act as an infomercial. Overall I don't see how anyone couldn't be impressed with at least the presentation and atmoshphere of the show. Hopefully some more people give this week's PPV a buy!
Blade2kxx Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 You'd think that at 4AM, Impact would be safe from preemption on Comcast Mid-Atlantic... IT ISN'T! Next week, instead of Impact, we get an O's game replay. Two weeks in, and this fucking sucks already.

Next week, instead of Impact, we get an O's game replay. Two weeks in, and this fucking sucks already. WHAAA!?!? Are they playing it at a different time. Your right it's bad enough that we get it at 4 am but if it get's skipped I'll be pissed!
Blade2kxx Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 After checking the schedule for CSN: MA, my Magic 8 Ball says: NO FUCK COMCAST
The Ghost of bps21 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I've come to the conclusion that TNA could actually be a productive little promotion if they'd stop shooting themselves in the foot. - Get rid of the no-RoH policy...because it's stupid and only hurts your workers and potential fans. - Get rid of the booking fee policy unless you actually book someone for a show. - Let people talk on cell phones all they want to...it doesn't hurt you any. That guy was trying to provide quick results...and guess what...people actually kind of liked your show even if they did know the results.
