Guest MikeSC Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Well, according to family friends, there is a good chance that Pres. Reagan will not survive the weekend. This truly is a sad day as I feel he is one of the truly great Presidents who will never get the full credit he deserves. It's even sadder that he, almost definitely, is unaware of his legacy as Alzheimer's is, quite possibly, the worst disease anybody could hope to have. -=Mike
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Reagan's been gone for a long time, imo. Can't wait for Eric S's column at 411 next week...
Guest MikeSC Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Reagan's been gone for a long time, imo. Can't wait for Eric S's column at 411 next week... Well, I'll give the media credit for this: They left him alone. A great man should not be forced to face public scrutiny when he's going through a hell none of us can fathom. I think Michael Reagan said he didn't recognize anybody but Nancy a few years ago. -=Mike
Highland Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 It's probably because of his Alzheimer's that the media hasn't been as hard on him as previous presidents.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 The media left the man alone because he's been unable to do anything noteworthy because of his condition. A debilitating disease has never stopped the media from scrutinizing somebody before. That being said there's a woman who lived up the street from me who is now in a home. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last summer and now she can't even remember her husband who goes to visit her out of guilt alone now. He says she's basically already dead but he would feel guilty if he still didn't go up once a week and sit with her. The last thing she remembered was their family dog Bridget...now all she does according to what I've heard is sit in a rocking chair by the window up at the nursing home she's in. I said all of that because I doubt Ronald Reagan even remembers anybody or anything now.
Downhome Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Yep, same for Fox News. Rest in peace President Reagan, you were one of the greatest.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 RIP Honestly though, he's been more or less dead for a while now.
Guest Choken One Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I honestly figured he died a long time and ago and that Nancy just forgot to tell people. RIP Mr. President. *off-topic* How Many living presidents are there now? 5? (Bush, bush 2, Clinton, Ford and Carter)?
cawthon777 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I honestly figured he died a long time and ago and that Nancy just forgot to tell people. Let's at least wait an hour before cracking jokes.
Guest Choken One Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 well it wasn't intended as a joke but i can see how that is interpreted as such...
Guest SideFXs Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Goodbye Mr. President. Thank you for your strength. You helped restore our country's dignity and saved the world from communism.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I believe Choken is stupid enough to think that.
MrRant Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Outside of the Alzheimers.... 93 is a good amount of time to live. One of my favorite Presidents.
Richard Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Yeah this is sad news. I left him off my dead pool. At least I got Tammy Faye.
Bruiser Chong Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Welp, not like he didn't live a long life. His health has been on a downward slide for years, so I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. R.I.P.
Guest Choken One Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Just curious...When was his last public Apperence?
Guest Vitamin X Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 This pains me as everyone in my family owes Reagan (and Carter for that matter) a great deal of thanks for giving hope and opportunity to the hundreds of thousands of Cubans who came over here looking for a chance to better themselves. I hate to see this man pass away before Castro.
Zorin Industries Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 From what I have read of his time in office I don't think I would have liked the man politicly, but on a personnel level I liked the man, who had great charisma, he will be missed

I hate to see this man pass away before Castro. Isn't Castro in pretty dire conditions now neways?
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 When isn't Casto's health failing? Just curious...When was his last public Apperence? Probably wrong on this, but I believe he wrote a "farewell" letter in '94 that said he got the disease, and it was published in newspapers...
Guest Choken One Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I remember that but I thought he gave some speech or took a photo op some time around then...
Slayer Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Ironically, I believe his last public appearance (the last I can recall anyway) was at the Nixon funeral
Jobber of the Week Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I never could get the wankfest for this man. Conservative domestic policy + record-breaking military budgets + ignorance of a rising national debt. However, he was far from the worst in terms of Presidents, and put a halt to Communism, so that was a decent eight years. Nobody should have to watch a family member deteriorate from Alzheimers, though. Happy trails.
Sass Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I salute you sir. Rest easy now. RIP President Reagan.
Guest thebigjig Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I guess I'll post my thoughts here since some are having coniption fits that I created another thread about the situation... christ I predicted Reagans death 5 years ago... and it was getting to the point that if he had lived another five years from now, it wouldn't have been shocking... he seemed almost immortal to me
