Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2004 The Rockets are starting to look more like a playoff team with the additions to the team now. Too bad the Rockets are going to be in the hardest division in the NBA. Rockets, Mavs, Spurs, Grizzlies, and Hornets is going to be brutal. Still though I think they can fight it out with Mavs and Griz for 2nd and 3rd spots in the division.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2004 There is no reason why all the Texas teams can't make the playoffs. Spurs win the Southwest, Wolves the Northwest, Pacific is won by the Kings and bottom half can be the Mavs, Rockets, Grizzlies, Suns, Lakers.

Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted August 10, 2004 In Other News Rick Fox is an idiot (credit ESPN) ESPN.com news services LOS ANGELES -- Former Laker Rick Fox, who was traded to the Boston Celtics last week after spending seven seasons with Los Angeles, filed for divorce Tuesday from singer-actress Vanessa Williams. Fox filed to end the couple's five-year marriage, which produced 4-year-old daughter Sasha. The red-carpet marriage of Vanessa Williams and Rick Fox apparently has dissolved. "They are both extremely devoted parents, so the most important thing to them right now is the welfare of their child," Fox spokeswoman Staci Wolfe said. "They are committed to working out what's best for her." Williams has three children from her first marriage and Fox has a son from a previous relationship. The two had been separated. Fox and Lakers point guard Gary Payton were traded Friday to Boston for Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins and Marcus Banks. The Celtics also received a conditional first-round draft pick and cash in the deal and sent a second-round pick to the Lakers. It remains to be seen whether Fox will join Boston, with whom he spent the first six seasons of his career. The 35-year-old guard/forward reportedly is contemplating retirement after 13 NBA seasons because of nagging injuries. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted August 11, 2004 The Hornets have a lot of guys that are inconsistent as hell. Even Baron Davis, while he will always get his numbers, is usually either red hot or missing everything he attempts. There is no in between with them. Maybe Rick Fox is just gonna upgrade to something younger.

Guest JohnnySwift Report post Posted August 12, 2004 Nets signed Ron Mercer. There's no link for this one, I saw it on the bottom line. Here's the report credit ESPN EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Guard Ron Mercer, waived last season by the San Antonio Spurs, was signed Thursday by the New Jersey Nets, who continue to revamp their roster. Terms were not disclosed. The Nets are the seventh team for the Mercer, 28, who has career averages of 13.9 points and 3.1 rebounds but has fallen off dramatically over the last two seasons. In 2002-03 with Indiana, Mercer averaged 7.7 points, more than six points per game below his previous career low. He was traded to San Antonio during the offseason and was relegated to the bench, averaging 5.0 points in 39 games before being released by the defending NBA champions. In New Jersey, the 6-7 Mercer is expected to fill the slot vacated by guard Kerry Kittles, who was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a cost-cutting move. "Ron will fill our opening at the 2-guard position," Nets CEO Rod Thorn said. "He's a proven NBA scorer who will be a welcome addition to our roster." Mercer has done all his scoring with bad teams. Selected sixth overall by Boston in 1997, he was traded to Denver in 1999 and to Orlando the next season. Mercer signed a four-year, $27 million contract with Chicago in summer 2000. He averaged a career-high 19.7 points in the 2000-01 campaign but was shipped to Indiana the next season in the deal involving Ron Artest, Jalen Rose and Brad Miller. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted August 14, 2004 Isn't this going to be the first time Antoine Walker has been "The Man" in his college or pro career? I'm not sure how long 'Toine was in Boston before Paul Pierce came along...he was a role player in Dallas...and even in college he played for a loaded Kentucky team. Maybe the move to Atlanta will be good for him....or just expose him as a solid sidekick.
jimmy no nose 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2004 That Lakers-Celtics trade is pretty weird, first Fox says he may retire, now it looks like Payton may not want to play there: http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2663502 EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - A multiplayer trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics was amended Friday after Gary Payton refused to report to Boston for a physical by a deadline, the Lakers said. A Celtics spokesman said Boston had agreed in advance to waive the requirement that Payton undergo a physical exam on Friday. "The team waived his physical as part of the amended trade," Celtics spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said. "It (the physical) obviously became moot as part of this deal." The amended trade will now give Los Angeles 6-foot-8 forward Jumaine Jones instead of guard Marcus Banks, and Boston will no longer be required to give up its second-round draft choice. Lakers spokesman John Black said the trade had to be amended because it was contingent on all players reporting to their new teams for physicals by Friday afternoon. "Gary Payton refused to go to Boston and do that," Black said. Boston waived the Payton contingency, and in consideration the Lakers had to switch terms of the deal, he said. The Celtics expect Payton to report for training camp Oct. 4, Bonsiewicz said. The terms of the original Aug. 6 trade called for the Lakers to send Payton, Rick Fox and a conditional first-round draft pick to Boston in exchange for Chucky Atkins, Chris Mihm, Banks and a second-round draft choice.
