Guest KJ Brackish Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I just got this game today (after trading in Nascar Thunder 2004 (AWESOME GAME)), and I am simply amazed at how this game is. It's GTA meets Spiderman~! I suggest you rent the game, or just go buy it, as it kick ass on so many levels. KJ
Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I picked this game up today also. I traded the POS known as Showdown: Legends of Wrestling for it actually. Spider-Man 2 is just great, I've been having a blast with it since I started playing it.
Guest KJ Brackish Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I'm just barely getting into the storyline now, as I've been beating the hell outta the thugs on the streets. I love cruisin through central park and going to times square. I've even managed to find MSG once~! Welp, I'm off to play once agayne. KJ
Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Yeah, it's all just great. It's not a perfect game though as I've had a few problems with movement (not webslinging, that's a breeze) and the graphics can be almost ugly at times, but the gameplay and simply the entire concept of the game more than makes up for the faults. Over time I'm sure I'll get very bored of the side missions that we have here. You just do the same type of things over and over and over again. Sure, you can just fly around the city all you want for as long as you want, but you MUST play these side missions at times in order to progress through the game. So far it hasn't been that much of a problem, but just mark my words...over time, you will all get bored of those side missions. I'm three hours in, and I've already done this and that about as much as I'd like to, heh. After three hours of play, I'd give it a 9.0 so far.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Ok, everyone says it's like GTA, but how so? Just in the respect that you can go anywhere you want, or do you get missions like in GTA too? And can you really go anywhere? Like, on the ad it shows Spider-Man on the Statue of Liberty's face. Can you actually do that? And what's the play control like? Is it intuitive, or do you have to just play it for a while to get used to it?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Ok, everyone says it's like GTA, but how so? Just in the respect that you can go anywhere you want, or do you get missions like in GTA too? You are in a huge city like in GTA, and you can either just swing/walk/run anywhere you want at anytime, or you can follow your map to these different little markers and do various missions. Either little side missions where you help people, the main story missions, or other little things like races (beat the clock to get to a certain marker), and things like this. Like I said though, you will tire of the side missions before too long, but they are still cool for a while. If you just keep away from them for a while, I'd be willing to bet that they'll be fun once you go back to them over time though. Just don't do them over and over and over again. And can you really go anywhere? Like, on the ad it shows Spider-Man on the Statue of Liberty's face. Can you actually do that? Yes you can go anywhere. As far as I can tell, you have the entire Manhattan to work with here, and there are no load times from going to one area to the next. You have seen it in the ad where it shows Spider-Man on the SoL, and yes you can do it. I was doing it just a while ago myself. It's also very cool how you get to the SoL. And what's the play control like? Is it intuitive, or do you have to just play it for a while to get used to it? You must play around with it for a few minutes to get the entire flow of the gameplay, but after those few minutes everything will be very easy for you. You have tons of moves and different things you can buy so that you can do more and more different things. Just trust me, it's worth owning this game. Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Ok, everyone says it's like GTA, but how so? Just in the respect that you can go anywhere you want, or do you get missions like in GTA too? This is like GTA because you got a whole city to run through and you get to do whatever you want or the main game. You also have to seriously travel very far to get to some parts of the games. Plus you can pick up secret icons similar to the pakcages in GTA but there are different type of icons to pick up. Yeah, it's all just great. It's not a perfect game though as I've had a few problems with movement (not webslinging, that's a breeze) and the graphics can be almost ugly at times, but the gameplay and simply the entire concept of the game more than makes up for the faults. I'm guessing that you mean going from swinging to wall climbing and then running the side of a wall instead of just crawling up. Thats the main problem I have had with the movement at the moment. The side missions repeat themselves WAY too much and in the same context as well. This is what sucked about GTA, this is what sucked about Simpsons: Hit and Run, this is a little bit of what sucked in True Crime: Streets of LA.

dubq 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 What boss characters are in this game? Just Doc Oc from the movie? Or are there more comic character appearances like Venom, etc?
Guest SpiderFan Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I got this game yesterday and played it all afternoon. The side missions do get repetitve, but never really boring, because I always got new moves to do that made fighting and moving around fun. Words cannot properly describe how great it is to swing around. Maybe it's because I'm a huge Spider-man mark, but I spent at least an hour just swinging around, exploring and seeing the sights. Leaping off the tallest building, free falling to the ground and swinging away at the last possible second is fantastic. This is the best superhero game available right now for consoles. 9/

El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Commentary: The PS2 version looks like crap. (Yes, I have it. No, I didn't buy it.) Does the Xbox version look better, or is it a typical multiplatform game?
Guest Prodigy Report post Posted June 30, 2004 From the reviews I've read, they all say it looks better on XBox, which is pretty much true for all mutliplatform games. I'm thinking of picking this up, but have heard that it's fairly short (8-10 hours to beat story missions) and gets repetitive. I want to konw if this is game I'll own and be able to play forever and not get bored, or am I better off just renting it and being able to get the full experience from that?
Guest SpiderFan Report post Posted June 30, 2004 I haven't beaten the game yet, but the review I read said that after you beat it, there's still a whole bunch of stuff to do that pushes the game up to about 20 hours to hit 100% done. I don't know about you, but personally, I love just moving around the city, so I can see playing this game for a long time, but I might rent it if you're skeptical. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 The only reason I am hesitating is because when reading some of the reviews, it makes it seem like outside of the exploring aspect of the game, there is little to do. I think I will rent it first.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Renting it first would be the best idea, and that is what I did. So far, I enjoy the game, for the most part. I need a bit of help, though, where exactly is the Spidey-Store located? I forgot where it's located, and I need to go there and purchase the swing upgrade to complete the chapter I'm on currently. I've done everything else but that.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Two questions... GTA like missions means it is not broken down into levels like the previous one , correct? Do you go out and find your missions instead of progressing thru a set number of levels? Also, the save function....can you save at any time? Limited funds on my part, so im trying to get a good guage of the gameplay.

Guest Prodigy Report post Posted July 1, 2004 I decided to pick up the game (along with F-Zero GX) and I'm having a blast with it. I was kind of disappointed at first, because I wasn't too impressed with the swinging, but it grew on me (especially after I watched the movie). To find where the stores are, they are green blocks on the radar, and are the money symbols on the map. To find the crime fighting missions, you can wait until a crime happens, and it will be displayed on your radar, or you can wait until a civilian has a crime to tell you about (such as a car being stolen, or a shootout). To advance the story, you have to finish each chapter, which consists of gaining hero points by stopping crime, and things like taking pictures for the bugle. As for saving, you can save at any time. I've been playing for a couple of hours, and I'm glad I bought it. So far I'm up to chapter 9, but not sure how many there are. The swinging is great, and only gets better with all the upgrades. I hoped I managed to answer all of your questions.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2004 I bought the game Tuesday night, and earlier today I "beat" the game, in that I completed the story missions. I ended up not being that big of a fan of the side missions, and the swinging around wore thin with me since there isn't really too much to do in the huge city even though it is huge, except just swing and do those side missions. It took me 6-7 hours to beat the story missions, which is just way too short for such a game as this. The story wasn't even that well put together in the game. To me it ended up just being random scenes put together without too much tying it all up. I took the game back to the Blockbuster Game Rush near here, and traded it in ($35 credit) and added $5 to that, and picked up the new Riddick game. When you trade in a game, you get any new game for $39.99, which is why it ended up only costing me $5. I really like the new Game Rush deals, I've bought and traded my last five games there, it's fantastic. Riddick is somewhat short also, about ten or so hours long, but I'll run through it this week and just trade it in for another new game, so I'm cool with this. Back to Spider-Man though, since I've completed the main part of the game, I'd give it a final score of 7.5-8.0, or something in that range. At first it is just breath-taking, but the more you play it the more you find various faults in the game. It's still great though and worth the purchase. But whatever lol. Is this deal at all Blockbusters' because I've actually never heard of it before so I was wondering if that was something local or supposedly at all? Because I have a few games I'm willing to trade in.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2004 Money signs on your map are the stores. Thank you. I'll look out for those, for the most part, I've seen mostly yellow, purple, and red dots on my map for side-missions, and such. Is this deal at all Blockbusters' because I've actually never heard of it before so I was wondering if that was something local or supposedly at all? Because I have a few games I'm willing to trade in. This deal is at some Blockbuster stores, not all. My local Blockbuster has it, well, one of them, anyways. I have two in my town. If your Blockbuster doesn't have it, you can always try somewhere like GameCrazy, or GameStop, or some place like that to trade in your games.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2004 Yea...wouldn't it just be easier to rent? No. I first split Showdown: Legends of Wrestling with my brother, $20 each. I ended up not really enjoying that at all so I traded it in for $35 credit, and got Spider-Man 2 for the $39.99 deal. I turned around and did the same thing with Spider-Man 2 for Riddick. I don't like to rent games anymore. I don't like to have the time limit, I don't like being forced to take it back if I end up really liking it, etc... Guest combat_rock Report post Posted July 3, 2004 Ha, I just got it, and I was at the SoL earlier today. I couldn't get to the very top of the torch though, which kind of bugged me. Anyway, I think the game is very, very good pick up and play fare, but it's not epic. Plus, there's only like 10 variations of side missions. Still, I'd give it and 8/10.
