SummerSlam

Recommended Posts

So after Raw last night, it seems that Benoit will by some miracle retain the World Title and be the champion heading into SS. So my question is, what does that leave us as the title match at Slam?

There was talk of Edge getting a shot in his hometown. A Benoit-Edge title match looked very likely weeks ago, but all the build-up to it was dropped when HHH became available for Vengeance. And after lst night, it seems to me that Edge will be facing HHH at SSlam. Now of course if I'm wrong and HHH does win the title Sunday, then I guess Edge will be getting his shot afterall.

The most talked about title match for SSlam was Benoit-HHH. It seemed to make perfect sense that this big match would be saved for SSlam, but when HHH's movie was put on hold, he was plugged into the Vengeance title spot. So this would now have to be a rematch from the previous month's ppv, which I think hurts the match as being as big a draw as it could have been. I wouldn't have doubted for a second that this is where they were going, but again after last night, it would appear Edge and HHH are headed on a collision course to SSlam.

So this puts the two most likely challengers in a match against each other. So who does that leave? After last night I strongly suspect that at SSlam we will finally get the match we've been wanting since Benoit got the title at Mania, Benoit vs. Jericho. I believe he's the only other legitimate challenger out there.

The only other thing I could see in Eugene, but they wouldn't do THAT, would they? And as I was typing this, Orton popped into my mind, which I guess I could also see and would have no problem with.

So, as of right now what do you think the World Title match will be a SummerSlam?

Benoit vs. Triple H without a doubt.

Edge: No chance. If he's jobbing to Orton at Vengeance, what makes him think he deserves a World Title shot? The only way he can be in the Title Match is if it's another god damn Triple Threat, or an Elimination Chamber match.

Eugene: HA! No way would I spend $35 with him headlining. He's good for comedy, but not in a serious title threat position.

Long Shots:

Orton: Still IC Champion, and don't think he's ready for a World Title feud.

Kane: He's feuding with MATT HARDY OVER WHO MADE LITA PREGNANT. He'd be lucky if he got a title shot on RAW in the next 6 months. Also probably feuding with HBK at Summerslam.

HBK: See latter part of Kane explanation.

Jericho: Seems to be stuck with the midcard Evolution members and has reportedly wanted to work with Orton soon.

Batista: Still improving, still mid-carder.

I'm in no way shape or form a psychic about what's going on in the writers minds, but Benoit vs. HHH is the clear choice for the main event, or in an act of desperation, the EC can make it's once a year appearence.

I swear to God that they don't do a TIME LIMIT DRAW at SummerSlam.

I think after HHH (eventually) gets the belt, he'll probably face Edge at the show. And I think it'll go to a draw. HHH playing Flair and Edge playing Sting, and HHH not dropping the title that soon, but still making Edge look great, with a hot crowd.

Benoit/Eugene

HHH/Edge

Eddie/Bradshaw?

Orton/Jericho?

Garrison Cade will come back to RAW repackaged as a millionaire who hates short men with a "technical prowess" to earn his shot at Summerslam...

Honestly, I think Benoit is dropping the title to H on Sunday, but now they planted the Edge seeds, it seems very strange unless they do a three way. Benoit loses and then just drops out of the title picture completely, after holding the title for 4 months? If the Edge/HHH encounter is not for the title, I guess Orton would make sense too. Edge could get involved, letting Benoit retain and furthering the Edge/Hunter storyline, however besides I guess Orton, any other challenger is going to be like Kane, just thrust into the the picture for random title shot, not really helping the champion. If Hunter wins this weekend, they should do a three way at Summerslam.

Things look gloomier on the SD! side. It seems as if we might get to see the three way match between JBL, UT and Eddie.

If Matt Hardy's knee is as bad as they say, HBk might have to come earlier than expected to feud with Kane. Ihardly doubt that McMahon would want to do a fatal four way match at SS between Benoit, HHH, Kane and Edge.

Well, one possible rumored card could be:

World Heavyweight Title

HHH vs. Benoit II (some kind of gimmick match)

The way i see it is, if HHH wins at Vengeance, Benoit goes over here and regains the title, then HHH goes to make his movie. If HHH does not win, then HHH will win here.

I.C. Title

Jericho vs. Orton

If Jericho wants to work with Orton, here is his chance. I don't see Jericho going over though. I think Orton will cheat to win, and talk trash about beating another "legend". Jericho should get a world title feud for the next RAW PPV in September and / or October.

Kane vs. Shawn Michaels

if hes back in time, this would be the great kick-off to a 2-3 month feud. I say a non-finish, likely a DQ or some sort of knock-out or something.

Batista vs. Edge

Why not. Nothing else for them to do.

Eugene vs. Ric Flair

Unlikely, but If Eugene finds out the truth by then, this would be the ideal match to kick off the Eugene vs. Evolution feud. Nice old school technical wrestling. Eugene could shock Ric Flair with his antics and wrestling knowledge, maybe doing some old school Sting spots where Eugene no-sells the chops. Definitely be entertaining for a nice 11 minute match.

Everything else doesn't really matter... but I'd like to see Rhyno & Tajiri go over La Resistance... but thats just the ECW in me.

I think Eddie is S.O.L. as far as the title goes. He gets his rematch on free TV, which is more or less doomsday if he hopes to get the belt back. Word has it that the WWE title match at SummerSlam is JBL vs. the Undertaker, which seems to leave Eddie out of the loop.

If I had to take a guess, somebody will have a half-baked reason to cost Eddie his title rematch, which will then lead to a non-title feud for him down the card. And yes, that will mean that fucking Bradshaw would have gone 3-0 vs. Eddie Guerrero in title matches in the span of about 8 weeks. I just threw up in my mouth.

HHH's not getting the title at Veangance. HHH got the last laugh on Raw in a big way so that's out the window. Also, Benoit's DVD is coming out and will still be fairly new by the time Summerslam rolls around so that means Benoit's probably coming out victorious at Summerslam (against whoever) as well. HHH will probably the title and lose it back in October to Benoit when they have the PPVS very close together. That allows HHH to catch up to Flair number of world record title reigns while at the same time not be a gloryhound.

Predictions

Benoit vs ?? for the title. Michaels is going to tied up with Kane so I don't know what's going to happen here. HHH is tied up with Edge (Now they can't do this match for Mania which is actually a good thing if you're a Benoit fan) so if HHH graciously steps aside the only person they got is Jericho or Orton. Orton's already tapped out twice to Benoit however so I don't what's going to happen here. Benoit vs Jericho I have a sense will be saved for Mania so this is totally up in the air. I suppose they could have one match beforehand however.

Michaels vs Kane -- That is if Michaels is back by than. There's a chance he'll go against Benoit at Slam but I doubt it.

HHH vs Edge as long as HHH isn't involved in the title scene. It'd be stupid to put HHH in there and have him win the title off of Benoit though because Benoit's DVD will still be fairly new and that won't help sales if Benoit's not the champ. Hooray for the Benoit DVD!!

Jericho/Benjamin? vs Orton -- If Benjamin's back by this time hopefully he'll get this slot and free Jericho up so he can....Oh I don't know...wrestle some guy named Benoit.

Dual brands changes things up. I really don't know what's going to happen on Smackdown but that does unfortunately make a Benoit Orton match more possable which would rob me of a Benoit Jericho match.

Eddie vs Undertaker vs Brashaw -- I hate triple threats but I have a feeling this match will be on the card. It depends if Angle's wrestling or not.

Eddie vs Angle -- If this happens the match I mentioned before will be Bradshaw vs the Undertaker. Hopefully this match'll be the one for the title.

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Jamie Knoble.

I doubt Edge/HHH will be at Summerslam. I got a feeling that the feud will be a slow burn type of feud. Though I have no clue how they could justify another Benoit/HHH match at Summerslam, unless the main event this Sunday is a screwy finish.

Predicted Card:

Heat match:

Trish vs. Victoria (Damn, they really need to get some more female faces)

PPV:

Triple H vs. Benoit (World Title Match)

Orton vs. Jericho

Batista vs. Edge (IC Title Match)

Kane vs. HBK

JBL vs. Undertaker vs. Eddie (WWE Title Match)

Cena vs. Booker T

RVD vs. Dupree

Either: Rey vs. Noble/Chavo/any heel cruiserweight

-or-

Dudleys vs. London/Kidman (?)

If it's any 8 card PPV, that looks about right. If it's a 10 card PPV, I say all the listed matches (including the women's match on Heat) and a random Heat match.

If Shelton/Christian are back by then (I don't think they are), they can have a match. Just replace the women's match, or be the Heat match.

EDIT: Forgot about HBK/Kane, so I added it in.

I have to admit I got no clue, but it seems to me that Triple H will win the title either at Vengence or SummerSlam for sure where things will be built up with Edge. You guys have a point about the Benoit DVD which I overlooked because last night imo Edge/HHH was being planted for SummerSlam. Edge doesn't have to lose his title shot this sunday. He can easily win by countout or disqualification because of Triple H to build to HHH/Edge in Toronto. I'm suspicious of Benoit leaving with the title this sunday. I think if the stuff with JBL didn't happen I would be more sure. I guess that is good since it's not so predictable. What would they do with Benoit? Pit him against Eugene for SummerSlam. I also heard it's Taker/JBL(I'm from Toronto) which does disgust me.

It could go like this.....

World Heavyweight Title Match

Triple H(champion) vs. Edge

WWE Title Match

JBL(champ) vs. Undertaker

Intercontinental Title Match

Orton vs. Rock

planted couple of weeks back

U.S. Title Triple Threat Match

Angle vs. Eddie vs. Cena

To not put too much stress on Angle

Benoit vs. Eugene(who costs Benoit the title this sunday)

??????????????who knows what else.

My 10 match card:

RAW:

1. Benoit vs. HHH II - World Heavyweight Championship, Submissions Barred~

2. Jericho vs. Orton - IC Championship

3. Kane vs. HBK

4. Eugene vs. Ric Flair

5. Batista vs. Edge

6. Heat Match - Trish vs. Victoria OR La Rez vs. Hurricane/Rosey

Smackdown:

1. JBL vs. The Undertaker - WWE Championship

2. Eddie vs. Angle

3. Rene Dupree vs. Booker T vs. John Cena - US Championship

4. The Dudleyz vs. RVD/Haas (with Rico injured and the possibility of Heyman going back and messing with RVD, Van Dam could use Haas as a partner for this match) - Tag Team Championship

5. Chavo vs. Rey vs. Noble - Cruiserweight Championship

Is there any truth to the rumor that the rock could come back for Summerslam?

If that's the case, he could feud with Evolution and set Eugene straight.

Yes, that's a definite possability with the slow burn for HHH vs Edge. Edge did say he was going to take out Evolution one by one. One could almost think a Wrestlemania match is coming out of this perhaps for the title. It's just that HHH so decisively beat Benoit on Raw that means Benoit has to get his heat back for the PPV. That means a victory for Benoit unless they're intent on burying him. If there was going to be some kind of draw than there wouldn't be a decisive destroying of an opponent before the PPV as we saw on Raw unlessthe bookers think HHH is that fragile or just like him that much. I mainly see HHH losing by pinfall or submission which leaves him no options for a rematch at Summerslam. So what big name star can he fight than? Just Edge even though it doesn't make too much sense since you'd expect HHH to be at the end of the Evolution gauntlet. Maybe HHH vs Edge will be indecisive and they'll have their blowoff match later on. It's hard to predict here.

HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

Benoit vs. HHH vs. Edge

Benoit gets back the belt after losing to HHH at Vengence. Sets up a one on one feud w/ Edge after HHH leaves to make pictures.

WINNER: BENOIT

HELPS SET UP: Edge/Benoit, HHH/Orton

Possible rating: ****

WWE TITLE

Eddie vs. Angle

Eddie wins after interference by Big Show, setting up Big Show/Angle feud.

WINNER: EDDIE

HELPS SET UP: Big Show/Angle, Cena/Eddie

Possible rating: ***1/2, if Angle can go, give it another 1/2*

IC TITLE

Orton vs. Jericho

I'd like to put Rock vs. Orton(sans belt), but, save that for a tune-up to the unavoidable HHH/Orton feud. Jericho wins, to put him in line with the Benoit/Edge winner.

WINNER: Jericho

HELPS SET UP: Orton/Rock, Jericho/Edge/Benoit, Orton/HHH

Possible rating: **** (they pulled out a *** on Raw, maybe they can rise at PPV)

RAW TAG TITLES

La Resistance vs. Rhyno/Cade

Ehh...gives them something to do.

WINNER: RHYNO/CADE

SETS UP: More boring Tag Team feuds.

Rating: **(at best)

SMACKDOWN TAG TITLES

The Dudleys vs. Kidman/London

This could be a great match. The Dudley's are old-school, WWE style. Show Kidman and London just outgunning and outrunning the Duds, in a fast paced upset win.

WINNER: KIDMAN/LONDON

HELPS SET UP: Cruiserweight legitimacy, a new age for Tag Teams?

Possible rating:***1/2(It all depends on the spots)

US TITLE---NO DQ

Cena vs. RVD

Set the style up a la RVD/Taker Armageddon 01(?). Nice little hardcore match. Cena retains--to set up Cena/Eddie feud.

WINNER: CENA

SETS UP: Cena/Eddie, RVD/Taker

Rating: ***

Flair/Batista vs. Eugene/Regal

After Eugene realizes Evolution is against him, Eugene is set up by Uncle Eric to face Flair/Batista in a Tag match. Eugene doesn't trust anyone after all that has happened. Whilst getting pummeled by both men, MICK FOLEY'S music hits, he comes down, clears out Flair, Eugene sees this, takes off sock, puts down Batista for the win. Huge face pop, sets up Flair/Foley grudge match.

WINNER: EUGENE

SETS UP: Flair/Foley

Rating: **1/2, but, **** in mark out factor

Taker vs. Luther Rains/JBL/Kenzo (managed by Paul Heyman)

Just some match for the scared Heyman to avoid Taker with his "Thugs". Throwaway match for the Taker pop only. JBL lost title because of Taker, sides with Heyman. Enlists other guys. Boredom. Heyman realizes that to take out Taker, he needs to change. He needs extreme. RVD.

WINNER: TAKER

SETS UP: TAKER/RVD

Rating: **

Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Knoble vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Shannon Moore

Cruiserweight Four-Way, give em 10 minutes.

WINNER: REY REY

SETS UP: Future tag matches between some of these guys, and new champs Kidman/London.

Rating: ***

Some chick match. Who really cares?

Throw in some other things, plant seed for SurSeries. Sounds decent to me. It think the potential feuds that come out could resurrect the weak spots right now. And, making some cruisers the Tag champs, sets up Tag matches for all the cruisers, getting them some TV time. Long term you get some decent storylines.

yeah, i just got my words scrambled over.

Trips went 47 minutes last month...Put Benoit in there and he can take that 48 minutes and add 12 more minutes and it'll be good.

The only two people in WWE realistically that could go 60 minutes.

I'm not saying I WANT a sixty minute draw...Im just saying it's something WWE hasn't done in forever, and it doesn't give way for a concise winner and it's the kind of ego stroking power play HHH would do.

To say he went broadway.

Actually, I could totally see HHH wanting to go 60 minutes with Benoit, and I could see the two of them doing it too, as Benoit's style would help facilitate that kind of match. However, it would be stupid to do it at Vengeance, with the whole storyline being the interference of Eugene and Evolution. Also, even if they did, I don't think the WWE ever announces a 60-minute time limit for it's matches, so it would be completely out of nowhere to try to make a draw on that basis. If they actually wrestled a 60 minute match, they'd probably just keep going to a decisive winner.

The wwe sometimes throws that theory out the window though. Remember, the smackdown before Eddie won the title he had gone over Brock Lesnar in the tag team match-up. The wwe has smartened up with giving away things in this fashion. It's not a guarantee which is good.

Well, he CAN go 60 minutes, but a TLD wouldn't be as good as an Iron Man type match. But we all saw HBK/Bret from WM XII I hope....not one fall in 60 minutes...so it's possible for HHH to do it.

Good point but the rule still stands for the most part. That was actually the one time I went against the rule!! and was still saying Eddie's taking out Lesnar at the PPV. Maybe they wanted to build Eddie up more (because he was put in that match out of the blue} going in or just not make the result too obvious. I'm not sure but than and I hope this doesn't sound too braggish I was 98% sure Eddie was going to win. Looking back at it the pinfalls of Benoit and Lesnar were similar except I'd say Benoit's loss was a little more clean. The main difference was that HHH was a heel pinning Benoit and Eddie Guerrero was a face pinning Lesnar. Eddie also needed to be built up quickly. Comparing these two situations it was safer and wiser for Eddie to win both than it would be theoretically for HHH to win both. A top heel shouldn't beat your top face twice in a roll especially in such a short time span and I think the WWE realises that. That'd be just too much of a burial especially considering Benoit's catchphrase is "for real".

Anyone remember before WRestlemania when Michaels and Jericho had that face to face confrontation on Raw? I laughed at that because I bet it was purposely done just so nobody could tell who'd win their Wrestlemania match by giving anything away.
