NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 Well even though I had plenty of oppurtunities throughout my younger years, I never gave the Misfits a listen, so I am kind of interested in hearing them, however I don't want to just start downloading any of their songs....so do you guys have some recommendations of some of their better work. Preferably the Danzig years......

Guest MRK Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Walk Among Us or the coffin box set. If you're a fan of live bootleg concerts, check those out too. Their sound is more raw live than on the albums. Also check out Samhain's Initium if you haven't already.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Just get the Box Set. The Boxed Set is amazing, but you might not necessarily want to shall out $60 on a whim. Pick up Misfits Collection I and II from Caroloine/Astralwerks Records. They pretty much have everything you'll need. If it turns out that you really like the Misfits, pick up the Samhain boxed set. Danzig's stuff with that band is much better than his solo stuff.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Of the newer stuff: "Abominable Dr. Phibes" "Dig Up Her Bones" "Scream!" "Saturday Night" "Kong At The Gates" "From Hell They Came" "Great Balls Of Fire" (yes, a Jerry Lee Lewis cover)
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Actually the Misfits Project 1950 CD is very entertaining as a whole. That style music suits Marky Ramone's drumming very well.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 And also Jerry's bass playing, since there's a definite 50's sounding rock n' roll style on American Psycho and Famous Monsters.

Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Once again the fact I'm musically inept is rearing it's ugly head, but what's the story with Danzig and the group? Hell, what's the groups story period. The Misfits are one of the groups I've heard about, but never really gotten any info on, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Well I like pre and post Danzig Misfits. But I recommend Where Eagles Dare. I love that song.
Guest MRK Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Glenn was the singer for the Misfits. He ended the Misfits to form Samhain. The last 3 members of Samhain became Danzig. All the info you will ever need is here.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 If I'm not mistaken, the long story shortened is that Danzig was in the Misfits, wrote most (if not all) the music, then quit. Then Jerry Only decided to continue the band, so Danzig sued him. 13 years later, after a big legal mess, the Misfits came back - by which I mean Jerry Only and Doyle got some other guys to play with them and they called it the Misfits. Danzig made a strong point about it in some interview - he essentially said that he doesn't care what Only does, but he shouldn't be calling it The Misfits - call it the Jerry Only Band, call it anything else - but not the Misfits, because they're not. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Maybe I should just start teh "Help Voice Learn Music" thread and start asking questions left and right. Or just have everyone put down all the stuff I should know.... Thanks for the info.
