If there were a Woodstock 04, who would you book?

Recommended Posts

We're around the fifth anniversary of the last Woodstock. I pondered which bands would I book if I had say an assload of money. These are the thing I'd personally put these into consideration 1. No hard rock bands or metal bands. Sorry if I anger any metalheads on the board. But if you put a massive crowd and a metal band. Their will always be a load of dumbass frat boys that are there simply to fuck shit up. 2. Make the concert free again. I wouldn't totally make it devoid of corporate sponsonship. But I'd make it a bit more subtle. Anyway here's a list of headliners I'd put on therre. I'll come up with my list of bands later after some more pondering. So what would you do. Make it a Norweigian black metal fest? Perhaps the polka festival to end all polka festivals? Christian ska music? Your choice.

You can have Metal/Hardcore acts there. Thats not the problem.

The problem was the idiotic organizers who had no idea how to run a damn concert.

I'd simply section off the crowd. If the crowd holds 250,000 people, block it off into 4 seperate stages. Three Stages for side acts and the front Stage for the headliners.

One Stage for the Hardcore/Metal Genre

One Stage for the Rap/Hip Hop Genre

One Stage for The Rock Genre

The Headliners would be a diverse mixture

3 Nights and 4 headliners per night.

Better facilities is a MUST. they can't just take a empty field and stick about 25 portapotties there. Build Actual Restroom Facilities. More Concessions not at a rip off price. The whole spirit of anti corporate america is DEAD. It's not flower power era anymore. It's ok to have Subway, Wendy's, etc set up there. More quanties of Water (which was a Major problem at 99). Beef up security.

Will there be problems? Of course there will be problems, every single festival has them, it's just having the right personal to handle and address the problems.

Woodstock was about musical diversity...if you eliminate CORE aspect of music, you make the event a joke.

There's a better chance of Michael Moore and George W. Bush doing a duet together then Guns N Roses & Velvet Revolver being on the same bill.

Nothign says "Peace, love and togetherness" like my Saviour of Metal and yours, Devin Townsend belting out "Oh My Fucking God", "Rape Song", and "Far Beyond Metal."

Still, I'd pay to see it. Not only for evy Devy, but to see all the kids looking around wondering who this balding mad genius is.

First of all, Woodstock was never free

Second of all, The Cars probably wouldn't reunite, with Ben Orr being dead and all.

Third of all, they're the Long Beach Dub AllStars

I really like cutting the crowd off into sections via the music that the stage presents, good suggestion tangerine.

But if we're just going by what I'd like to see personally, I'm gonna have the likes of Sevendust, Lacuna Coil, DMXand maybe Killswitch Engage based on all of their live shows. None of those acts are particularly great and all have huge flaws but really fun live show. Sevendust may be one of the most untouchable live bands I've ever seen, just pure energy. Fuck it, throw the Ol' Dirty Bastard on there and I'm having a great time.

Other stage would be bands I enjoy but don't just go nuts over. Passable stuff. OLD, Marilyn Manson, Shadows Fall, Cradle Of Filth, Sage Francis, etc, things that are perfectly fine and occasionally quite interesting, but overall, not anything special to me personally.

Main stage would be the things I'd kill family members to see. Dog Fashion Disco, Glassjaw, The Mars Volta, System Of A Down, Tool, maybe the Deftones if I'm feeling generous, Wu Tang Clan, Mindless Self Indulgence and certainly, one of Mike Patton's projects. Preferably Mr. Bungle, but that ain't happening most likely, so bring on Tomahawk or Fantomas. Give something for Dan The Automator to do too, maybe mini sets in between acts setting up their show.

Is anyone from Throbbing Gristle still alive? They'd be the emcees, and HR Giger would design the stage.

I'd have something along these lines:

One stage:

Ween

Dillinger Escape Plan

Clutch

Mr Bungle

Primus

Another would be all-electronic, featuring everyone who has ever been in Pigface, and some paragons of dance stuff. Let 'em go nuts on a huge soundsystem. Wiring everywhere.

Stage three: King Crimson and Tool, all night.

Stage four: hippie madness.

Oh yeah, he'd convert hundreds of thousands of the kids over to the darkside, and metal would rule all once again with an iron fist. All thanks to Hevy Devy.

Ace Frehley

Would Ace even show up? He's about as reliable as Axl Rose.

If Ace does ever go solo again, i want to hear "Cherokee Boogie", "Breakout", "Fractured Mirror" and "Insane" !!

I might pay Ace in tubs of hard liquor. But only if he plays New York Groove. And does the smoking guitar bit.

I'm back, back in the New York groove

All of em. They did a special show a couple of months ago and I think there's a new album on the way.

No shit?

I need to get more of their stuff then. I'd figure for sure they'd have OD'd or died from some infection by this point.

I think I should redo myschedule to have SYL start promptly at 10am. It would be amazing to hear Devy screaming "wakeup you dirty motherfuckers!" and start belting out "Detox".
