Announcers making shoot comments...

Recommended Posts

I got a copy of IYH Degeneration-X int he mail the other day, and at the beginning of Los Boricuas vs DOA, JR compares the upcoming match to a train wreck. I've noticed announcers makinf similar comments even on hsows today. Do you think there's sort of a double entendre there, where commentators describing matches they know are going to be awful with terms like train wreck that a mark wouldn't quite get the dpouble meaning of.

Comments like that are usually "shoots that aren't supposed to be shoots." Kinda like when Kurt Angle said the SD divas were all worthless.

Now, there was an episode of Thunder that had Kevin Nash has a guest announcer and Nash definitely was shooting.

Mike Tenay: Why is La Parka helping Buff Bagwell?

Nash: Cause I was late to the booking meeting.

(After a WCW action figure commercial featuring a Goldberg figure pinning a Nash figure)

Nash: Man, they've even got me doin' the job in the commercials!

Or HHH saying Booker T's "type" aren't World Champion material, then later offering him $1 to fetch a towel.

Wait....that's just being racist.

well im not sure how much "shooting" JR was doing during that PPV, you have to remember this was during JRs "heel" turn where he got "fired" by Vince McMahon because of his bells-palsy...remember when he came back on RAW with a big heel speech running down Vince and the WWE and then bringing us the fake Razor and Diesel? He was then the "heel" commentator for awhile alongside Vince, i think it strectched for a good 5 or 6 months, not sure though...

Tony Schiavone on the last Nitro turned into a bitter, bitter man

"We've done a lot of crazy things over the years, like pushing your worthless ass Steve Regal(or something to that effect)" after Regal had buried WCW.

Schiavone, what a dope, hindsight ain't always 20/20 Tony, Regal is one of the best things going in the WWE right now...hell i've always been a fan of his anyway...

That PPV was done LONG after that heel turn, and way before JR's heel announcer turn about a year and a half later though

I think mostly "shoot" comments that were actually real where when the Clique did it. Nash, Trips and Shawn have all thrown in shoot comments that are fucking awesome.

When Shawn was briefly in the nWo, him and Nash did commentary during a match on RAW.

Right before the finish they're like "whoah! time for the run-in!" and they both spring from the announce table to cause a DQ.

Funny stuff.

Two things:

1. if you can, find that episode of thunder, some of Nash's comments are seriously GOLD.

2. The best one ever is when Edge and Christian are doing guest commentary( I don't remember when this was) and blatantly saying throughout the entire match that they're going to do a run-in. Then at the end being like "time for the run-in!" then doing it. It was GREAT.

Guest Mr. Adam

There was an equally good bit the next week on RAW when E+C were again at the announce table saying that they weren't going to do the run in. As the match finished they told JR that their talk was just a 'swerve'and they did the run in anyway.

Priceless.

If you're talking about shoots that weren't shoots, the Edge promo on X-Pac in '01 was great. "1998 called, they want their gimmick back!" or something like that. Best part of that show.

Any more Nash shoots people would care to post? I love the guy on the stick every bit as much as i can't stand him in the ring after '96.

It wasn't an annoucer, but I remember when Russo and Bischoff came out on Nitro and just tore into Sid, causing him to leave WCW for a few months.

I believe that was the first show of the "new" WCW- they asked Sid if he was ready to take his annual softball break or something similar

And they asked him if he had his scissors too I believe.

One of my favorites:

SummerSlam 1989, Ultimate Warrior Vs. Rick Rude

*Warrior tosses Rude outside the ring

Ventura: Certainly outside the ring, the Warrior don't know how to wrestle inside the ring!

My all time fav:

(During a RVD vs. Big Show match)

Paul: This match is unfair. Big Show outweighs RVD by more than 200 pounds!

JR: What do you want me to do about it? Make him lose weight?

Paul: Yeah yeah, I read the Ross Report.

the e and c thing was done during an x-pac/road dogg tag match on raw april 00, this was buiulding to e and cs first title defense against dx at backlash 00 (thus having to play face despite recently turning heel-but the ppv match was good and x-pac did a nice blade job at the end after a bell-shot)

and edges comment went like

"1998 called, and they're sick and tired of you" also said something like "hanging around with really cool people does not make you cool"

how about the whole goldberg-nash-steiner "shoot" feud during august 00. they had a 3 way at new blood rising ppv where goldberg walked away during the match (thus shooting) and then the announcers say thats not in the script and that steiner-nash will have to improv a new finish............then the match ends and they go back to mark mode for the booker t-jarrett main event

basically wcw was telling the fans "everything you see is fake, except for this, this is real"

that's why we hate Russo

Yeah, I have this on tape, it was an episode of Raw, about 3 weeks before Unforgiven 2000, and it was a no 1 contenders match between Hardyz/Dudleyz for tme match at Unforgiven 2000 vs E and C(Yes I have too much worthless information in my head)

I got to agree with this. How come no one has brought up the shoot comments and actions of the Kliq? The best shoot stuff was between Hart and Michaels. That was PLATINUM stuff.

HBK to Bret Hart post WM 13 with comments such as....

"You are a MARKED man. In your mind you believe all this is yours(the ring) and that it is your God given right."

Bret Hart on HBK at Final Four

"It's too bad HBK had to forfeit the title because of his "knee injury" (with Bret fingers doing the quote sign".

HBK at WM 13 doing the Kliq sign for Hall and Nash and Syxx.

HBK on Bret Hart just before KOR 97:

"Bret we all know you've been having some Sunny days".

Steve Austin on Bret Hart after RR 97

"All you do Bret is whine"

Eric Bischoff after the Montreal screwjob

"Someone's feeling a little punchy tonight"

I believe during that match, they also asked JR if he was a "E&C mark".

It was pretty funny, although no one can touch Nash in this catergory.

You missed Undertaker's triple threat title loss to The Rock.

And you missed the space bar while pounding out all those commas.

Powerslam by Duggan. He goes for the running clothesline, the Old Glory kneedrop and it's over. Duggan wins. Nash asks Tenay how many of these nicknames for holds he makes up on the fly. Nice.

Nash talks about Al Greene being his former tag team partner.

Nash says Lash got voted by the fans as having the "sweetest sideburns in WCW."

Package says he shouldn't have to come to a town like Baton Rouge since he's been in the business for thirteen years. Nash breaks in with "he's just so smarmy!"

Buff turns and Luger attacks Buff. Here comes "The Chairman of WCW" La Parka! What the f***???? La Parka chases the two out of the ring and we go to commercial! Nash says Luger is terrified of skeletons

Nash: "It's Wesley Snipes! Oh wait, it's just Booker T."

Nash says he has a video package for the fans. It's a replay of the Goldberg-Sid Vicious situation. Nash is doing a John Facenda-like NFL Films narration.

Kevin Nash - ..standing in the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field --- (Sid comes on) - ..Sid Vicious- .. 6 foot ten - ..290! - ..no - .315! -..no -.350! -.no FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN POUNDS!"

Nasty back breaker by Adams. Horace tries a backslide. Their going nowhere, but Horace back kicks Adams in the jewels. Nash calls it "the Old Glory mule kick" in reference to Duggan

Nash says you never see Meng and Barry White at the same time.

Nash says these guys should know no one gets beat after a sweet package (montage) like that before the match. [Meng got a video package before the match]
