ChrisMWaters Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 OK...I have been noticing recently how many of the gimmicks of WWE today (mostly on Smackdown, but still) resemble gimmicks already used in the past. For example...Kenzo Suzuki's "Love" of America is very reminicent of "The All American Boys" version of The Rougeau Brothers. Kidman and London are giving off a very serious Can-Am Connection/Strike Force vibe to me. The Simon D guy Nova is playing reminds me of the Bodydonnas before "HOROWITZ WINS! HOROWITZ WINS! HOROWITZ WINS!" Obviously JBL and Orlando Jordan playing Ted DiBiase and Virgil (does that mean JBL and Orlando will be working with Big Show soon?) To a lesser extent, Eugene is kinda like Jim Duggan/The Bushwhackers. Any others that you can think of?
Exslade ZX Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 Ehh...I don't really believe it's all to subtle. In fact, every week you see some complaining about it over and over again EDIT- how could you have forgotten 'Narcissist 2004' aka Mark Jindrak...who I actually like though.
ChrisMWaters Posted August 9, 2004 Author Report Posted August 9, 2004 D'OH! Knew I forgot someone! And I still say if they're going to keep doing this, give the Basham Brothers the Demolition gimmick
Downhome Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 I've thought of Eugene as someone more along the lines of George Steele, but I see what you are saying. Even HHH, as we all know, molds himself after Ric Flair, and Evolution as a whole is like The Four Horsemen, with HHH/HHH, Flair/Ole, Batista/Arn, and Orton/Tully. We obviously have Benoit/Dynamite as well. Even Taker/Taker.
Celtic Jobber Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 Eugene's retard gimmick kind of reminds me of Ultimate Warrior.
BHK Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 D'OH! Knew I forgot someone! And I still say if they're going to keep doing this, give the Basham Brothers the Demolition gimmick and rape Demolition's legacy in the process? I think not
ChrisMWaters Posted August 9, 2004 Author Report Posted August 9, 2004 Eugene's retard gimmick kind of reminds me of Ultimate Warrior. "...what are you talking about?"

Just give him a similar gimmick.
Guest Anticrombie Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 Eugene's retard gimmick kind of reminds me of Ultimate Warrior. "...what are you talking about?" God, he looks terrible. It's amazing what make up and steroids can do for ya...
Promoter Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 The Bashams did have the Demolition gimmick, but Vince made it S&M related. I remember reading on the net that Demolition if used today would be kind of S&M looking. Lo and behold a few months later I see Shaniqua added to the Bashams. Warrior does look horrible. I guess Jesse Ventura was right all those years saying how his face paint hid his ugly face
ChrisMWaters Posted August 9, 2004 Author Report Posted August 9, 2004 You think THAT picture is scary?
Lil' Bitch Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 Its funny you post that picture. That Warrior speech was more entertaining than the RAW episode that night.
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Wow, Warrior looks haggard as hell! Yikes. Old school gimmicks can be kinda cool, it makes me think of the good old days, when I was young and stupid and believed everything was all real. *Sigh* Those were the days, not knowing what was real and fake.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 For Kenzo, its harder because its based on ethnicity. Again, you could have had him come out as a regular Japanese wrestler who carried his flag proudly, but didn't hate America. He loved America. He came to America because he could make a better living. But the American fans booed him anyways (be it because he sucked in the ring, or they could have planted moments to get the fans to boo him), and he wasn't embraced, so he hates Americans now. The same thing happened to The Rock. His turn was logical. He wasn't just "a bad guy". He was a nice, clean cut, "blue chipper" who the fans turned on. So he turned on them. - RRR, July 2nd.
Guest AdamF Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 So I'm not the only one who sees the Paul London-Billy Kidman/Can Am Connection um, er...connection. Actually, they are one of the few teams in the company right now who consistently use classic-style tag style combination double-teams ala the teams of the 1980's.
1234-5678 Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 1998-99 was worse. Val Venis=Rick Rude Jeff Jarrett=Honky Tonk Man Tiger Ali Singh=Ted DiBiase
King Cucaracha Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 So I'm not the only one who sees the Paul London-Billy Kidman/Can Am Connection um, er...connection. Well, right now with the matching jackets and tights they're strongly resembling Strike Force. Can't wait for "The Model" Billy Kidman to turn on London... Speaking of which, if Jordan is Virgil to JBL's DiBiase...can we expect a Jordan/JBL feud sometime next year?
dubq Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 To a lesser extent, Eugene is kinda like Jim Duggan/The Bushwhackers. I get more of a George Steele/Rick Steiner vibe from Eugene than anything..
TheFranchise Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Benoit = Bret Hart? Benoit = Tom Billington.
DMann2003 Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Well, right now with the matching jackets and tights they're strongly resembling Strike Force. Can't wait for "The Model" Billy Kidman to turn on London... El Matador Paul London?

He and Paul London are COMPLETELY different people. He wears a mask. Paul London doesn't. God, some people are so stupid.
