Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Hey, the head investigator is Mr Feeney... Fuck, I missed that. What I did not miss, though, was loving this episode. I loved this episode. 1. The ENDING. FUCK. I cannot wait until January to find out more. FUUUUUCK. 2. Image of Locke smiling in the rain. Perversely incredible. Wow. 3. ETHAN. BEATS. THE. EVERLOVING. SHIT. OUT OF JACK. Worthy of a HOLY FUCK. 4. Charlie is HANGED. MY god. That image was SO FREAKING DISTURBING. WOW. 5. Jack brings Charlie BACK TO LIFE. Jack's desperate punching of Charlie was heartwrenching. That definitely fits in with the "Island Fulfilment" idea. 6. Locke and Jack TAKE THE FUCK OFF into the jungle. FAST-PACED. 7. Jack DOES THE RIGHT THING and gets his dad in BIG SHIT. Now THERE is a fucking consequence. 8. Sayid and Sawyer in the tent~! Intense scene. Sawyer is so the fucking man. 9. "I got 17th in a tournament, once." 10. "Everything I know, he knows more." BONUS 11. Look the fuck out, because this shit is HEATING THE FUCK up, and the SHIT IS GOING TO HIT THE FAN. You can feel it. Motherfuckers.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 If the psychic knew the plane would crash, would he be able to tip off the rescue teams?
Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 He could, but I don't think he'd want to. He sent Claire on the plane on purpose.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah, but there has to be a point -say 20 years down the road- where the guy says "ok, they've had enough".
Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 I think it depends on what the baby will grow up to be - what happens to it if Claire raises it successfully.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 9, 2004 I caught the last fifteen minutes due to school, and I will be catching up with all the re-runs they're showing. Good shit, I need to see the earlier stuff though. I may have missed too much, but it felt like a cop-out that they let the guy live. What happened to the girl (IIRC, his wife) that he was talking about?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Brian, this past episode was basically a culmulation of the past 10 episodes. It wasn't a cop out, they've been playing up the supernatural aspects of the Island since day one. Claire is a pregnant girl, she is not his (Charlies) wife, but they have bonded on the island - he's the only one who is not afraid to be around her and that makes her feel comfortable, and she's the only chick who will give him the time of day. Guest Brian Report post Posted December 9, 2004 I'll start catching up next week. Yolu need to head on over to the Angel thread.
Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 "box" company? I think its a metaphor
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 The whole bit with the psychic and the baby suddenly became a lot more interesting. It seems to me that whoever else is on the island wants to raise the baby for themselves; why else would they abduct Claire? So since the psychic sent her to the island, doesn't that mean that he would have known those people would try to steal the baby? So was he lying about her having to raise it, to try and get the baby in the hands of these people, for whatever reason? Or do these people fear what the baby could grow up to be, and simply want to kill it right off the bat?
AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 I'm curious how they're going to advance time to the point where the baby becomes consequential at all.
Max Danger 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Ethan'll just take him to Quortoth, then the baby will return as a 16 year old a few episodes later. What? It worked on Angel.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Ethan'll just take him to Quortoth, then the baby will return as a 16 year old a few episodes later. What? It worked on Angel. ...and now I see why Whedon is writing Astonishing X-Men. That's right out of The New Mutants (Illyana Rasputin aka Magik). Anyways, maybe Ethan and co just want to eat the baby or something.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Or maybe THEY had a psychic who said that a child born of the island would lead them back into civilization. MAYBE, it's the same psychic who Claire talked to and that was just an ASTRAL PROJECTION she was talking to in Australia!
Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 John Locke Quotes If we will disbelieve everything, because we cannot certainly know all things, we shall do muchwhat as wisely as he who would not use his legs, but sit still and perish, because he had no wings to fly. Our deeds disguise us. People need endless time to try on their deeds, until each knows the proper deeds for him to do. But every day, every hour, rushes by. There is no time. Where all is but dream, reasoning and arguments are of no use, truth and knowledge nothing.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Just as Locke is named by the writers/producers after philosopher John Locke, Danielle Rousseau is named after philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau. - TVtome. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/...s_rousseau.html Lots of these could be made relevant. And that first Locke quote blew my mind.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Ok, quick poll: a) Who thought Charlie was dead? b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? d) Do you get the impession that Locke is actually getting lucky, rather than actually knows what he's doing? e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? My responses: a) yes, I thought that they were killing him off, and was going to applaud the nuts it'd take to kill of a likable character like that b) yes, I thought that old, prick Sawyer was going to re-emerge but be stopped from doing too much harm by someone running interference (maybe Walt?) c) no idea, and it pisses me off ... at least show them in the background more d) I really do. I think that he knows some things (from studying the hell out of books and whatnot) but I still think that he's living the 'better lucky than good' lifestyle. e) no idea, but I'm guessing either a plane that crashed in the past or a shelter that was once used but has since been abandoned. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 a) Who thought Charlie was dead? -Yeah, I thought he was done for. Figured they've had it too easy lately and they'd kill off one of the more likeable characters. Although the fact that one of them was murdered would have made the show a little harder to get into the comic moments. b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? -Nah, he's in line for a face turn...although I thought he was going to boast more about being the bigger man to Sayid. c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? -I don't know if they just couldn't get every actor to commit to every show, or if they just film the storylines they need. Either way it would be ok to at least see them in the background, let us know they're there. d) Do you get the impession that Locke is actually getting lucky, rather than actually knows what he's doing? -Nah. I think he's had a lot of time to think in his chair and study up on the traits he'd normally be doing if he wasn't in the chair. e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? -Al Capone...or an underground shelter that the "other people" use for their own...whatever
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Ok, quick poll: a) Who thought Charlie was dead? You see a guy hanging from a tree via a rope around his neck, chances are that they're dead, not only from the lack of oxygen, but also a broken neck. So, yeah, I thought he was dead. Come to think of it, I think Merry and Pippin were supposed to die in LotR as well. Damn, that's one lucky Hobbit... b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? What YnA said. And even though it's going slowly, I think they're turning him face too soon. By the end of this season, we'll probably hate Sawyer the face and be reminiscing about his time as Sawyer the smartass heel. c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? Waiting for a Convenient Plot Twist that requires Michael to ask Sun for something. I do hope that Jin's extended absence means that Agent Baker will show up on 24 though. d) Do you get the impession that Locke is actually getting lucky, rather than actually knows what he's doing? I think he knows what he's doing, but I think it's a case where he's starting to learn that reality isn't always the same as what's in books. e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? It's obviously a Secret Underground Lair of a Diabolical Villain intent on ruling / destroying / ransoming the Earth. Or maybe it's just a shelter for Other Men... Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 Ah I'll dig up the Rousseau quotes too. C'mon, there's alot of nameplay going on. Sawyer...please!
Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2004 a) Who thought Charlie was dead? Not at first, but when Kate started crying and Jack quit punching I believed it. b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? Me~! c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? Same place as Claire was for awhile - the background. That or hanging out with Scott and Steve. d) Do you get the impession that Locke is actually getting lucky, rather than actually knows what he's doing? I think Locke knows a lot more about the island than he is letting on. e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? No idea, at all. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2004 Anyone else think the entire reason for the plain crash might have been Claire's baby? When Charlie said "They only wanted Claire", I began thinking back to the psychic telling her not to get on the flight, and that great danger awaited the baby. Then Charlie saying last week that maybe the psychic knew the plane would crash. I wonder if whoever it is that's on the island needed Claire to get the baby for some reason. Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 10, 2004 a) Who thought Charlie was dead? At first, no. Once they did that camera angle showing Jack, defeated at the side of Charlie, I thought it was over and thought it awesome that they had used Charlie's finger tape (LATE) as a nice allusion to Jack being too late to save Charlie. And then Charlie isn't dead! WTF, mate? b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? I didn't think so, I just thought Sawyer was going to play some mind games with Sayid, and I was pretty much right. I found it much more interesting that Sawyer said the tide was rising. Wouldn't that be weird if the island was slowly sinking into the water? c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? I have no idea what Jin/Sun could possibly be doing, but my money is still on the Jin/Sun/Michael triangle being revived and Jin kicking the bucket when he finds out Sun's English language secret. d) Do you get the impession that Locke is actually getting lucky, rather than actually knows what he's doing? He knows what he's doing, but the Other Man knows more. e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? I want to say that it's an underground shelter, much like the French woman's, but I'm not so sure. Locke and Boone could perhaps be rather close to the other side of the island, and more importantly, another beach where the Frenchwoman's ship could've wrecked and gone so far inland that some of the wreckage ended up buried in the jungle ground. Whatever it is, I'm sure the writers will make it interesting. And Jack's father is named Christian Shephard? Holy Bible reference, Batman!
MDH257 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2004 Hey, the head investigator is Mr Feeney... Are you talking about William Daniels? Because that wasn't him. a) Who thought Charlie was dead? Yeah, I thought he was dead. I was convinced when Jack was beating his chest to the point where it stopped being CPR and bacame Jack hoping for a miracle. I don't like how it was done because if they weren't really going to kill Charlie off, then he should have been revived sooner. They've promised that a major character is getting bumped off before the season is over, but teases like this are going to make it lose its impact when it actually happens. b) Who thought Sawyer was going to fuck Sayid up? No, because the're setting up a Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle and I'm sure they don't want Sawyer to be too unsympathetic. c) Where has the Asian couple been for the last few weeks? With all the characters they're trying to juggle they can't give everybody something to do. There has to have been about three episodes that Claire wasn't in before tonight. e) What do you think the metal thing that they encountered is? I agree with the theory that it's an old shelter or the plane that the people already there crashed on the island in. I was kind of hoping that everyone would get their own flashback(spotlight) episode before they started over and had 2nd Jack or Kate flashback shows. Here's hoping Hurley gets his own before the end of the season.

Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2004 They've promised that a major character is getting bumped off before the season is over, but teases like this are going to make it lose its impact when it actually happens. Obviously, it'll depend on how they do it, but I think this will add to the impact. We'll be thinking "OK, here comes the miracle...come on...here it comes...now...what!?!?!" when it happens. I hope.
