Cowboy Battlenuts 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 I think actually the entire purpose of that was to lean us toward believing that Hurley's not crazy, it's the Island fucking with him. It seemed like they kind of threw-away the significance of that, but to me it was just to show that Hurley may not be as crazy as we've been lead to believe. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 I get the whole "If you can see the cabin you're special" thing but they were pretty pressing with the idea that Hurley was important in finding it when he didn't do anything at all.
Cowboy Battlenuts 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 I took that as actually part of Ben and Locke's relationship with eachother. Each trying to make the other believe they knew more or were more important to the island. Neither has a complete understanding of how it all works or what's going on, but they keep trying to make the other believe they do. To me that's what makes the Ben/Locke interaction, both clueless and yet both seem to "get it" more than anyone else, and there constantly trying to hang that over eachothers head. I think it's based on the idea that Ben feels jealous of Locke's relationship with the island more than anything. Not to go off on too much of a tanget, but I see it as Ben was with Dharma as a child, found out about the first inhabitants of the island while growing up, realized the importance and did what he could to take control of the Island in someway. At some point the Island itself turned on Ben for some reason(if he wanted to start a new society there, making sure no women can give birth would be a great way to stop that), brought Locke and the plane, and now Ben's just kind of lost, in the future hell bent on revenge and nothing else. That's kind of a broad theory but it's what I've settled on. Locke was meant to be on the Island, Ben wasn't, and he knows he wasn't.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 I don't really know what more they could have done either to show he died, short of showing his body exploding into pieces. Again, they had him get to the deck of the boat for dramatic purposes, IMO. They could've done a lot more. They could've shown him actually standing there when the boat exploded, for one thing. You don't have to actually see his flesh being ripped apart, but it would've been real easy to just throw in a one-second camera shot of the fireball hitting him in a very PG manner. Instead they showed him on the edge of the deck, then a moment was spent looking at other stuff, and then the boat exploded. Like I keep saying, every other main character on this show who died, you either directly saw their death or saw their body afterward. With Jin, it seems like they almost make a conspicuous effort to not show him on the boat when it blew. There was more than enough time for him to have jumped into the water and swam away a bit during the gap between the last time we saw him and when the bomb went off. And even if Cuse said he was dead, it's not the first time the producers have messed with people. I don't even like Jin that much as a character, so I have no emotional investment in this. It's just that they went rather far out of their way to not show us his death, and I find that to be suspicious since they've never done that before with anyone who actually died.
LuckyLopez 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Well the thing is with all those other characters we saw their bodies because their friends found them and buried them. In Jin's case that was impossible. The chopper couldn't go looking and the folks on the island wouldn't even know to look. Unless Jin's body were to wash up on the beach him dying there basically doesn't get closure. So the only way they could give us that closure we've come to know would be by completely changing how he dies, why they left him behind, and Sun's resentment and anger. But I do think that its reasonable to believe they left things vague just to screw with us. Whether they were leaving the door open to bring him back or just giving us a reason to wonder and screw with our heads... I think its reasonable to think they did that different. But I also think its plenty reasonable to say that the nature of his death and the whole crisis made it completely unrealistic for us to get any kind of shot of his body and a graphic shot of him dying would have just been unnecessarily vulgar for Lost. Plus there is the aspect that we already knew he was dead for months before he died. And unlike Charlie it wasn't a "You will die" thing where they were constantly saving him. It was the realization that in the near future he will "die" and the Oceanic 6 will leave him behind. So I think there's something to be said for the Lost guys not giving us the typical death story because they already did months earlier. We even got that slow mourning music they play whenever anyone dies when Hurley and Sun went to his grave. If the argument is basically that Lost tends to give us little "eulogies" for important characters then you can definitely argue that the reason they didn't give us one in the finale is because they already gave us it in the Sun/Jin episodes earlier in the season. Alive, dead. Its Lost. I presume nothing. I will say that I rewatched the finale last night and Jin escaping doesn't seem as plausible as my memory suggested. Jin was never shown to get to the end of the deck and was pretty much dead center. And the explosion didn't come from the back with the little bunker construct. It came from the center of the boat not too far from exactly where Jin was. And it didn't come more than a few seconds after our last shot of him. So while I still do think its possible the writers let him escape I now think an escape would be a rather unrealistic action film sort of thing.
Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Has Daniel Dae Kim done any interviews since the finale? They allowed Harold Perreniue to do one or two, but I havn't read any from him yet.

I'm just rewatching Angel's first season and Sawyer makes an appearance as one of the three vampires in the beginning of the first episode. Never noticed that before. You can get half the cast of LOST just be watching Star Trek TNG, ER, and 24! Though I guess that shouldn't surprise me, since those are 3 big long lasting TV shows. Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 the shortlists for the emmys are up, Lost is in the top 10 for best drama (for the constant) but nothing for Matthew Fox, Yun Jin Kim, Terry O'Quinn, or Henry Ian Cusack in the acting nominations, BEST SUPPORTING DRAMA ACTOR Naveen Andrews, "Lost" ("The Economist") Bruce Dern, "Big Love" ("Good Guys and Bad Guys") Christian Clemenson, "Boston Legal" ("Roe vs. Wade, The Musical") Ted Danson, "Damages" ("Jesus, Mary and Joe Cocker") Michael Emerson, "Lost" ("The Shape of Things to Come") Zeljko Ivanek, "Damages" ("I Hate These People") T.R. Knight, "Grey's Anatomy" ("Freedom, Parts 1 & 2") William Shatner, "Boston Legal" ("Mad About You") John Slattery, "Mad Men" ( "Long Weekend") Blair Underwood, "In Treatment" ("Alex: Week 6") Jake Weber, "Medium" ("Wicked Game, Part 1") I was quite shocked cusack didn't get nominated for the constant. Especially the bit where desmond gets through to penny, which was of one of the best acted lost scenes ever, I thought. The econimst wasn't the strongest Sayid episode ever, either. It felt like Andrews was just playing 007 for an episode.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2008 Fuck yeah to Ben getting nominated for TSOTTC. Probably one of my favorite Lost episodes ever and his performance in it was top-shelf.

Mik 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2008 The fact that the trailer showed us absolutely nothing new did very little to curb my enthusiasm. It really pumped me up.
dubq 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2008 I don't think the trailer needs to show us anything aside from what it did - a few scenes from last seasons - a few scenes from the next. Does it's job a-ok with me.
Dandy 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2008 It's the first trailer, not the Cliff's Notes on what will go down this year.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2008 From another forum: It showed Juliet most likely rediscovering an intact Swan hatch (!), it showed Faraday exploring what could be a Cerberus vent (looking at something that appeared to be a petrified...snake?), it showed him also perhaps meeting the deceased Radinsky...the implications of some of the clips are pretty huge. I have to say, while it may just be me, I really got a sense of dread watching that that I didn't get in the initial trailer for last year. The color palette seemed to be even bleaker, if you can imagine that, and if the Losties that were on the Island when it was 'moved' are indeed back in the 'past', it sets up the possibility of an ending that's very The Third Policeman. Seeing the Swan again also confirmed one of my biggest fears: that Desmond will come back to the Island after Ben kills Penny and will somehow end up stuck in the hatch again. Remember, the old British woman in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" said that pushing the button was the greatest thing he'd ever do, and we still don't know exactly what he did to get put in prison and get a dishonorable discharge. Maybe he actually deserves it. That seems contrary to everything we know of him, but this is LOST we're talking about. Regardless, I really think the light/dark, Heaven/Hell subtext is getting stronger, and it will be interesting to see just how cruel or merciful the creators of the show are to the characters, or at least who ends up where. I'm pretty convinced at this point it's all based on how they're suggesting that Time isn't what we perceive it as, and on the 'other side', its linear nature is exposed as just a limitation of our 'stuck' minds. milliondollarchamp 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 And the Boone plane strikes again? I wonder if the fact that the Drug Runners' plane seems to be falling off that cliff in the past means that Boone will now never be killed in it. I'll bet that LOCKE gets propelled back in time & decides to down that plane to save Boone from dying there in the future. To make amends for getting him killed. But I'll bet that 2 very bad things happen as a consequence: Boone is supposed to die in that plane so the universe will torture the hell out of him (& anyone around him) as it attempts to course-correct itself, and (worst of all) if Boone doesn't die in that accident then Locke will never beat on the Hatch keeping Desmond from killing himself. If Desmond kills himself back in his Mama Cass Bachelor Pad days, then all kinds of things come undone.
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 C'mon, now, guys... let's not get nuts over something that could very well end up being a throwaway shot. Yes, I know that creating theories is part of the fun, but usually those theories need to come from something more substantiative then a 1 second teaser shot that you need to slow down/pause just to tell exactly what it is. I myself can barely wait until January but it's no fun to just make shit up. Once we get some real clips then I think that's more valid. I dunno, am I being anal here? What do other people think?
