Regarding the Nuthouse; Charlie appearing in the future and all that, I'm assuming it's the island/Jacob/whatever...Which then would mean that he could leave the island?

Oh, and Hurley's Cannonball~!

Hurley also said that "he wanted them back there and he'll stop at nothing to get them back", so I'm wondering who "He" is.

He was saying it - not he. He was talking about the island.

Rewatching the premiere I was struck by how awesome the character of Ben is - perhaps more specifically the portrayal by Michael Emerson. He's at his best when he's captive. He slayed me with a few of his lines last night.

Also: the piano version of Charlie's theme is pretty much perfect. It gets to me. It starts about 45 seconds in: http://www.divshare.com/download/3564735-93c

I hated having to avoid this thread but now that I'm good and done.....fuck that was some good stuff. I love being reminded why I fell in love with this show in the first place.

- Yeah, I teared up when Hurley asked "What about Charlie?". Wanna fight about it?

- OH SHIT JACOBS CABIN IS INVISIBLE

- OCEANIC 6

- PULLED THE GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING TRIGGER. TWICE.

- Ben asking Jack "Can I please go with John?" was a serious LOL moment. It's almost like Ben has passed the torch and realized that Locke is the new leader.

- CEDRIC DANIELS BITCH. We need an Omar cameo this season while we're just tossing Wire cast members around.

- WHAT DID JACK DO?

Oh Hurley said "it"? I could have sworn Hurley said "he". My mistake.

The prevailing theory seems to be the "Oceanic 6" were allowed to leave the island, in exchange for claiming to be the only survivors, presumably under penalty of the rest being killed if any of the O6 start revealing the truth.

I hadn't thought of that myself, but I like it. A thought also just occurred to me that, with Hurley saying that "it" wanted to bring them back, I think it's quite possible that the "rescuers" are essentially at war with Jacob (not literally, but they obviously want control of the island and it's secrets) and Jacob is trying to bring the 6 back because they can somehow help him.

Jack pulling the trigger was the best thing ever.

Oceanic 6: There are only 6 people that returned from the Island. Either something happen to the rest or the rest stayed on the Island and only Kate, Jack, Hurley, ???, ???, ??? knows who stayed behind or if something happen to the rest.

I think its a basic mistake to presume Kate is part of the "Six." She might be, but given that she's a wanted murderer and appears to be roaming free I imagine there's a chance that she got off the island but managed to avoid identification as one of the survivors. I mean, maybe she did come as one of the Six and she just got a commuted sentence or new evidence popped up when she was "dead" or the people who rescued them and seemed to strike some sort of deal and managed to cover up a plane crash managed to secure her freedom. But with this show, who knows?

I just think that narrowing our scope to the idea that "six people" got off the island is a basic mistake considering what we know about this show. Kate and others could have avoided identification and could be living under the radar. Afterall, from the flashbacks we've seen no less than Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, Eko, Jin, and Sun all separately assume false identities (or plan to in Sun and Jin's cases) in order to hide from someone or stay off the grid. Plus the mystery around Libby. The "Six" are celebrities. Lots of the survivors were trying to avoid being detected before the flight. Especially since half the flight were criminals and killers it seems.

Some may have returned in another way like Michael and Walt. And Desmon, Juliette, and Ben are not survivors of the flight. So if they, Rosseau, Alex, Karl, Richard, Mikhail, or any of the other (no pun intended) people make it they theoretically wouldn't be part of that Six. You can probably even rationalize that Aaron can make it back with Claire and not be considered one of the Six because he wasn't born yet.

Or maybe 5 of the 6 are Jack, Hurley, Kate, Michael, and Walt. Who knows? It just strikes me that making presumptions about this show is a mistake and it just leads to 20 episodes from now the audience getting mad that a 7th person made it back when they were presuming only 6 did. I realize its impossible to avoid speculating with a show like this, but I do think narrowing the framework for that speculation based on things you think Lost implied seems silly in Season 4. They've clearly identified Jack and Hurley as two of the "Six." They've never said "only six people make it back" or "Kate is one of those Six."

No, they've clearly identified only Hurley as one of the Oceanic Six. We don't even know why there's an Oceanic Six. Maybe a lot of them got rescued and six of them were singled out for some reason afterwards.

You're right. The cop says Hurley is a celebrity. Jack says he's a celebrity (and is clearly identified as a hero twice over and recognized in public). Hurley uses the Oceanic Six term but then backs off it in the station saying he's not a celebrity. So for all we know more than six survivors could have made it back to a public welcoming, Jack could have been singled out as the "hero" there, and then 6 of them including Hurley could have separated themselves in some way.

Guess I should follow my own advice.

I think that Jack and Hurley are both part of the 6. The Oceanic 6 is a name that would probably take off from the beginning of their return, and not as a way for them to separate themselves from Jack.

I think that there must be some deal struck where they don't mention that anyone else even survived the plane crash, as Hurley didn't mention that Ana Lucia had been on the island with him and then died.

That was actually my first live viewing episode as I just finished watching all the seasons on DVD earlier in the week. I seriously read just about this entire thread as I watched the episodes.

Apparently Hurley seeing Jacob's cabin is quite a big deal, judging by Ben and Locke's reactions.

Finally, someone asks Ben what the smoke monster is. Disappointing that we didn't get any answers, but at least it was finally asked.

Thought this episode was great. The show feels sort of fresh, maybe because they're not stalling anymore now that they have an endpoint and an X number of episodes. Very good pacing, I like how we were introduced to all 4 of the "rescuers", got a glimpse of their past, AND got at least a whiff of their real motive, all in this episode... instead of being insufferably cryptic for 6 episodes like last year's "Livin' with the Others" nonsense.

I dont know, between the dude talking to ghosts with his vacuum cleaner and Ben not knowing what the black smoke monster is, this seems to be straying far into the fiction side of things.

I still can't believe they're in Season 4 and we still have way more questions then answers. I like it, but yeah.

Juliet already explained last season that they don't know what it is but they do know that it doesn't like the security fence. I believe that was a serious response. Ben most likely genuinely does not know.

Hurley is going to play a major role in things... being that he can see Jacob.

It's looking like Col. Daniels (Matthew Abadon) is going to have a major role this season.

Ben is so fucking awesome. It just needs to be said. He's such a great character. The whole speech he gave to Sawyer today was great...as was his final speech.

He didn't see Jacob tho, he saw Jacob's cabin, and Jack's dad sitting in the chair. I'm beginning to hate having to figure things out through Hurley because he's clearly not right in the head.

I thought it was Locke, too, but I was under the impression that the eye saw Hurley looking in. Tonight, when Hurley told Locke that the cabin was in a different direction, Locke seemed surprised that Hurley knew what he was talking about. So maybe it wasn't Locke's eye.

Posted

I think I caught a glimpse of hair on the eye that looked at Hurley, but I could be wrong. The face came up so quick it was very hard to see anything other than the eye itself.

If it means anything we know it's a white guy.

Posted

So is it presumed that if Linus has a guy on the boat, that Hurley became one of the '6', since Ben was threatened by Hurley seeing the cabin.

And I loved Miles explaining "tell my sister I love her" to Daniel.

Muchhhh better episode this week. And even though they didn't say it out loud, Kate is definitely apart of the "6."

When was the last time they talked about the numbers? We gonna get any info on them? Or are the writers just going to "forget" about it?
