Guest Quik Report post Posted August 26, 2004 I realize this is very opinionated, but I'm gonna say it anyway. So I was just watching the Olympics, (And I must add, NBC's "Put the good shit on at 3 AM even though there's a 24 hour delay" method is fan-fucking-tastic) and some dude from Iran set a world record en route to winning the gold in the clean and jerk (that's the one where they grab the big barbell that bends in the middle from all the weight, and somehow lift it over themselves without making their heads explode. Don't worry, I didn't know what it was officially called until 5 minutes ago). So anyway, the anouncer throws out the line "The World's Strongest man" whe ntalking about this guy, which got me to thinking. Is Mark Henry's only claim to fame officially gone? Or did he lose that title during the Sydney games? If so, does this make him officially worthless? If so, does that make him nothing more than an unusually strong fatass who can't work and sweats a lot? Oh, and am I the only one who thinks NBC put women's volleyball on at 2-3 AM so that guys have something to crank off to?

For instance, Mark Henry lifted that dumbell with a 1? inch grip over his head. I forget how much it weighed right now but only 1 or so people had ever done that before and I believe nobody had done it as easily as Henry. The bottom line is that there are lots of different ways to test strength so a lot of people can claim to be the strongest.

Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Mark Henry's strongest man int he world gimmick is not dissimillar to Dino Bravo's World Strongest man gimmick, which was very much put over by Jesse ventura during commentary (which of course lead to the Royal Rumble 715 pound bench press bullshit) The angle was gold not because of it but because inspite of it. all the classic commentary afterwards for years by Gorilla accusing Ventura of helping Dino and Jesse defending and putting Dino over. Mark Henry is just a 400 pounder that maybe could press His own weight over his head. Thats cool and all but lets not say it is an original gimmick.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Trivia...the difference is, Bravo was only 'Canada's Strongest Man' and because he was a heel, as you mentioned, Jesse Ventura helped him. However, Henry has always been put across as a legitimate World's Strongest Man. Remember when he did those strongman stunts on Smackdown? He got no help. Sure, Ron Simmons was standing around cheering him on. But the WWE have made efforts to make this 'gimmick' legitimate, unlike Dino's which was a legitimate gimmick. If you get what I mean. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Generally speaking, Mark Henry was never the 'World's Strongest Man', no matter how many WSM shows he won. It is an unofficial title (like 'World's Fastest Man' for the 100m Winner) for the Gold Medal Winner of the Superheavyweight Division in the Olympics. Since Mark Henry never won, he was never the 'World's Strongest Man' in the legitimate media.

The only problem with this was that they'd air these vignettes about how strong he was and then job him out and look like a bitch to people like Christian who are about half his weight. I have no problem with Christian winning but when it was done like this it made Mark Henry look like a bitch and didnt put over his opponent whatsoever. I dont mind Mark Henry but he usually has about a 4week run before he gets injured for about 6 months.

He was canadian's strong man up until he he did the bench press, and even when they said it afterwards Jesse always took issue with it claiming he was the world strongest. pointing being this isn't an original angle claiming to the be the world strongest man. they said the same thing about Ted Arcedi.
