Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 http://www.roadrun.com/blabbermouth.net/ne...ewsitemID=26268 MARILYN MANSON will host a live tribute to THE CURE on September 17. The show — part of MTV's "Icon" series — will feature performances and testimonials from artists and celebrities who cite THE CURE as a significant influence upon their work. It will be held at Old Billingsgate Market in London, and screened in October. As previously reported, MARILYN MANSON is scheduled to perform his new single, "Personal Jesus" (a DEPECHE MODE cover) at the German awards show Comet 2004 on September 24. This event will mark the first public performance by Manson in 2004 since the Grotesk Burlesk tour's completion last December. Other acts scheduled to perform on the show include Avril Lavigne, R.E.M. and Nelly Furtado. Manson will also introduce his "buddy" Avril Lavigne when she performs on the Fox TV show "Fashion Rocks" on September 8 in New York City. The event will be televised on Fox on September 26. MARILYN MANSON will release a "best of" collection, entitled "Lest We Forget", on September 28. The compilaion will contain rare photos and artwork by Manson himself. The "deluxe edition" will feature an accompanying DVD containing "the entire video catalog," including the previously unreleased uncensored clip for "(s)AINT", directed by Italian actress Asia Argento. I don't care what anyone says, this would be awesome to see.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Which Cure video was it where the two chicks get into a catfight at the end with the main singer guy watching?
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Avril Lavigne? I don't mind her, but after butchering Metallica, she has no place here. Nelly Furtado, though, may just rock something good out.
Angelus 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 MARILYN MANSON is scheduled to perform his new single, "Personal Jesus" (a DEPECHE MODE cover) Sweet Dreams, Tainted Love & now Personal Jesus ... Can Manson do something good by himself ?
haVoc 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Avril Lavigne? I don't mind her, but after butchering Metallica, she has no place here. Nelly Furtado, though, may just rock something good out. That's the part that lost me. Are they performing at the German show or at the Cure "Icon" show? I figured MTV realized how bad the "ICON" show is and killed it. Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 i'm a huge cure fan, been one since '88, but this might suck badly, like the kinda show that makes you cringe. you got our century of artists covering cure songs? like who? 311 and blink 182? c'mon! i think it's great though that they're being recognized. they're more popular than ever, with everyone using their songs in commercials to people and Robert Smith doing more and more publicity. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 MARILYN MANSON is scheduled to perform his new single, "Personal Jesus" (a DEPECHE MODE cover) Sweet Dreams, Tainted Love & now Personal Jesus ... Can Manson do something good by himself ? Yeah. They're called Portrait of an American Family, Smells Like Children, Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, Holy Wood, and Golden Age of the Grotesque. Save for the last two, all very solid hard rock.
Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Report post Posted August 31, 2004 What was wrong with the last two? Sure, Holy Wood kinda just retread the same stuff Manson had always done up to that point, making it a little meaningless (I still enjoyed the hell out of it, though), but TGAOG was just badass shit, and showcased a different sound thanks to Tim Skold's production. If anything, I think Smells Like Children is by far Manson's worst album. It's like he just didn't try with that one, though I do love the cover of Rock 'N' Roll Nigger. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 I can picture Manson doing Personal Jesus. Weird. REM and Nelly Furtado, sounds like as much of a winner as MTV can yield.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Avril Lavinge AGAIN? Didn't they learn from the last time? *Shudders at the thought of Avril covering "Boys Don't Cry."*
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 The sad thing is that Avril performance for Metallica Icon show was the best one.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 What was wrong with the last two? Sure, Holy Wood kinda just retread the same stuff Manson had always done up to that point, making it a little meaningless (I still enjoyed the hell out of it, though), but TGAOG was just badass shit, and showcased a different sound thanks to Tim Skold's production. Holy Wood was hyped as being an album heavier than Antichrist, with better music, better lyrics, and whatnot. It ended up being the worst of the trilogy (with Animals being my favorite of the three). Grotesque is just Manson trying to go back to what made him popular, but that can never hapen, since it was the collectiveness of Twiggy and Manson that made the band work. Twiggy left because he realized Manson lost his edge.
Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Report post Posted September 2, 2004 Twiggy left because Manson kicked him out, not because "Manson lost his edge." I'm kinda foggy on the entire Holy Wood era, so I don't really remember those things being said. I can understand why you would consider Holy Wood a letdown in the face of that sort of hype, though. And to say that TGAOG was Manson trying to go back to what made him popular, well, I just don't understand the logic there. The album is almost as different from anything else he's ever done as Mechanical Animals was in its time. I can see TGAOG as an extension of the Antichrist Superstar style, but not as a direct retread. There isn't near as much animosity in TGAOG as there was in Antichrist Superstar, or even Mechanical Animals, for that matter; TGAOG is almost tongue-in-cheek, with songs like (s)AINT and Slutgarden being hilarious in context with the rest of Manson's work. Also, Antichrist Superstar had a very raw sound, whereas TGAOG sounds very, very polished by comparison, thanks to Skold. Really, Manson's old style and new style are almost night and day, in my opinion. But then again, I don't think the collectiveness of Manson and Twiggy is what makes Marilyn Manson work. What makes the band work depends on how motivated and creative Manson wants to be on any given album. And, for me, that's why TGAOG is so awesome - it's different, and it's another Manson concept taken to the extreme, much like Mechanical Animals was.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2004 Twiggy was kicked out of the band (I think he and Manson had a falling out or something over the direction of the band) in favor of producer Tim Skold, who coincidently fucking owns on later KMFDM releases. Skold knows his shit and was able to put together a really good and different album. He produced Lucia's (the most recent girl singer from KMFDM) debut album for Universal, and although it is pop oriented, it still has an industrial edge to it. Really, Manson's old style and new style are almost night and day, in my opinion. I'm happy about that. Manson is one of the few mainstream rock acts that can succesfully change their image/sound from album to album.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2004 I really miss the OLD style, though. Portrait is just a great, great album. Of course, this was back when he didn't have a reputation to uphold, so maybe that's it.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted September 2, 2004 It all depends on how you look at TGAOG in my opinion. If you see it as him parodying himself/tongue in cheek, then it's well done and succeeds at what it's attempting. If it's a serious, honest record, then it's cheesy as hell with some nu metal lyrical content. Overall, I'd personally rate it just kinda there. It's something I could sell or lose and not feel bad about. Mechanical Animals is his high point IMO, with Holy Wood being catchy, but not really what one would call "good" and Antichrist Superstar being bloated and a little to desperate to be seen as dark and twisted, at least from a sonic standpoint. I won't even get into the first few albums, as those are totally different creatures.
