The Chinese know how to handle kidnappers..

Recommended Posts

IT began as a tense kidnapping, and ended with a man declared dead by the police groaning in a coffin.

That's the bizarre chain of events, set in motion by a man's desperate bid to get the cash to pay for a journey home, that spellbound the city of Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province on Tuesday night.

ATTACK

Zhang Kailin, 36, walked into the city's Women and Children's Activities Centre armed with a knife at about 6pm.

He allegedly burst into a music classroom on the fifth floor and demanded 300 yuan ($62) from the teacher, reported the Shanghai Daily News.

When she refused, he stormed down the corridor, trying each classroom door until he found one that would open.

Inside the classroom were a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy.

He rushed in and grabbed them, bound their feet with the straps of their schoolbags and locked the door.

Then, he dragged the boy to the window ledge.

STAND-OFF

When the police and firemen arrived minutes later, Zhang ashed demanded 2,500 yuan for the children's release.

He said he needed the money to visit relatives in neighbouring Shandong Province.

'2,500? We can give you 3,000! Send one of the kids come out to get the money,' the police negotiator replied, reported Yanzhao Metropolis Daily.

As the police kept the man talking for more than two hours - and the children's mothers sobbed uncontrollably - a huge crowd filled the street and anti-riot police arrived.

Zhang became more and more jittery.

He demanded a gun, and to take one of the kids with him.

'DEATH'

Unknown to him, a police sniper was making his way along the window ledge from a neighbouring classroom.

Once in position, he waited silently in position for the right moment.

At 8.07pm, when Zhang took a sip of water, the sniper leaned around a pillar and fired two shots at point-blank range.

Zhang slumped, then fell five storeys to the ground.

He was declared dead.

The body was put in a coffin and taken to a funeral home for refrigeration until it could be cremated.

But soon after, funeral home workers heard a groan, opened the coffin, and were shocked to find the man still alive.

They rushed him to hospital. His condition is not known. The police have refused to comment.

Well that is probably the best way to handle kidnappers.

This story would have been hilarious if they had just gone ahead and buried / cremated him anyway.

Why the hell was the dumbass sitting on the window?

Because he's a dumbass. :P

The guy was trying to rob/ransom people so he could get money to visit his family. Not exactly a Mensa candidate, now is he? :bonk:

Pretty Intense, however how could the guarantee that the kidnapper wouldn't have inadvertantly taken the kid with him on the fall to the ground? Just saying.........

I wonder what the ACLU is going to do about all this -- all he wanted was a bus ticket...

For real.

A man should be able to acquire a bus ticket by any means neccessary.

I'm confused why we try to prevent murders from shooting themselves when in a stand-off?

I say we let them, it saves the taxpayers money and it's one less monster on the street.

Was wondering how long it would have been before some namby-pamby stick-up-his-ass poster would point that out.

You didn't disappoint...
