Guest curry_man2002 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 "E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!" - a chant heard in arenas around the world. ECW: Extreme Championship Wrestling redefined professional wrestling in the '90s with a reckless, brutal, death-defying, and often bloody style that came to be known as "hardcore". It attracted a rabid, cult-like following that is still going strong today. This 6-hour, 2-disc set follows the rise and eventual demise of the company that raiused the bar and revolutionised sports-entertainment forever. DVD Extras: Seven bonus matches, including: The Pit Bulls vs. Raven & Stevie Richards 2 out of 3 Falls Dog Collar Match for ECW World Tag Team Championship Gangsta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA - 16.09.95 Rey Mysterio Jr vs. Psichosis 2 out of 3 Falls Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 17.10.95 Mikey Whipwreck vs. The Sandman Ladder Match for ECW Championship Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 28.10.95 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu ECW World Television Championship Match CyberSlam - Philadelphia, PA - 17.02.96 Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA - 06/06.97 (Alternate Commentary) Tazz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow ECW World Television Championship Match Living Dangerously - Asbury Park, NY - 01.03.98 (Alternate Commentary) Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn ECW World Television Championship Match Hardcore Heaven - Poughkeepsie, NY - 16.05.99 (Alternate Commentary) Steven Richards Apologises for Leaving ECW Tazz Seeks Paul Heyman's Blessing Paul Heyman: Travel Agent
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 5 of those 7 matches are available on the ECW dvds released by Pioneer Entertainment.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Well, obviously the hardcore fanbase have already seen those matches, so expect a lot of bitching in this thread. The only match I've never seen is Sabu/Socprio, and according to some people, it's in the top five or ten best ECW matches ever.
Guest Samurai Johnny Frankenstein Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED there is no Shane Douglas material on this. Seriously, if it wasn't for really wanting to see the Raven/Richards vs. Pitbulls match, this'd be a pass.

Seriously, if it wasn't for really wanting to see the Raven/Richards vs. Pitbulls match, this'd be a pass. As long as he's featured in the actual Rise and Fall of ECW story for more than five minutes, I'll be satisfied.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Not bad picks, I wish they would have put out more matches even if it meant an extra DVD disc though. My memory's joggy, but I'm asking just to clarify. Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA - 06/06.97 (Alternate Commentary) Is this the one that has "The Chairshot Heard Around The World" ? Tazz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow ECW World Television Championship Match Living Dangerously - Asbury Park, NY - 01.03.98 (Alternate Commentary) Is the one where Tazz went THROUGH the ring mat? Guest BWT Report post Posted September 3, 2004 This sucks most of these matches are on the ECW dvds allready and no the Dremer v Raven match is where Dremer finally beat Raven.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Raven/Dreamer is Raven's last ECW show, way too many run ins, but decient enough.. The chairshot deal happens in a steal cage. And Taz vs Bigalow at LD is the ring. Which was stupid doing before the main event, although the main event was barely a match anyway. I really hope they get former ECW guys NOT under WWE contract to talk on the DVD. Cause if you don't then it just won't be legit enough.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 No Eddie vs Dean matches? That's quite a shock.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I own/have seen almost all this matches except Taz vs Bigelow and Sabu vs Scorpio. Wether I buy this DVD or not will now depend on the main feature itself, but it seems there should be more content, given that it's a 2 disc 6 hour set. Guest JacK Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Is the Raven/Stevie and Pitbulls match the one where the Pitbulls do whatever it was they did to make Raven dislike them?
algrim 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I would've liked to have seen Douglas/Snow from Wrestlepalooza '98 & RVD/Rhyno from Anarchy Rulz '00 included on the dvd.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 How could they not include any Awesome/Tanaka material?
Guest Sturgis Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I'm on the fence about buying this one. If it's a "WWE-izd" DVD with bright lights and vibrant colors and The Coach hosting in the studio, then this DVD will suck. It should dark and gritty(sorta like BloodBath was, just without Coach)like ECW was, have everybody do interviews in front of the ECW banners or pay a visit to the ECW Arena. And Shane Douglas does NOT deserve to be included on this DVD. Ever since he left ECW he has done nothing but piss on it's legacy, and I hope they tear him a new one. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 So is my understanding correct in saying the matches listed above are just the seven "bonus matches" not on the VHS tape? If so, where is the full listing? Sabu vs. 2 Cold Scorpio was legit greatness, and a LOT of folks haven't seen it since Cyberslam 96 wasn't THAT high profile of an event....... I wonder if Heyman has any influence on the disc, cause if he does I would want him to do a "sunglass guy, hat guy, sign guy" feature....since they basically went to every show ever in the ECW arena. algrim 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I doubt it. Vince would not waste time doing a feature about the "mutants," although it would be cool to see.
Guest Sturgis Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I would just like to point out Hat Guy is one of the coolest people I've ever met.
algrim 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 I don't doubt that at all. I remember wrestlers like Taz, Douglas, Stevie, the Meanie and the Dudleys would heckle the guy. Plus, wasn't he made a special guest referee in one of the arena shows?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 No Eliminators, Tajiri, FBI, Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotton, New Jack, Cactus Jack? Well, Well, Well have they forgotten Joel ""Just like the Rubix Cube, the more you play with it, the harder it gets" Gertner.
algrim 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 No Candido either?
Guest The Decadent Slacker Report post Posted September 3, 2004 No Cactus kinda irks me. He's probably the guy a lot of fans associate with ECW, & should have at LEAST a throwaway match. I'm hugely disappointed. Born to be Wired, Taz/Sabu, Awesome/Tanaka, Cactus & Douglas/Sandman & Funk, & maybe the stretcher match with RVD/Sabu should be there. This just seems like it was REALLY rushed together. Not a shock, but a harsh reality.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 We're probably just better off buying the Pioneer DVDs if they still are out there (doubt it, but maybe online) they had good quality, well at least for the vhs tapes I got (Extreme Evolution, Path of Destruction,Heatwave 98, and Anarchy Rulz 99) all they did was clip the entrances (probably cuz of the music, i know that they always overdubbed motorheads version of enter sandman from the ECW soundtrack into those vids, but I guess we have to wait and see, maybe wwe will produce this ecw disc better (pioneer did a hell of a job, but on the Benoit DVD, the ECW parts arent too great-then again the master tapes are of poor sound and video quality, they're definately in mono from 94-96ish) Am I making any sense here lol any prices yet for it (probably the same as other 2disc sets)
Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Can they actually SHOW Born To Be Wired? And c'mon people - I can understand why there's complaints about no Awesome/Tanaka or Cactus matches (even though most of his important ECW stuff is on his 2-disc set), but do we really need to see Candido, Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten and New Jack again?
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Keep in mind that these are only the bonus matches. The actual program will probably feature at least clips of New Jack, Awesome, Tanaka, Cactus, Balls, Axl, etc.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 Well, considering Mahoney and New Jack were two of ECW's more popular stars...yes, they deserve it. And the feud between Axl and Ian Rotten kinda upped the ante of what hardcore wrestling was in early 1995 for ECW. Hmmm...let's go down the matches... The Pit Bulls vs. Raven & Stevie Richards 2 out of 3 Falls Dog Collar Match for ECW World Tag Team Championship Gangsta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA - 16.09.95 Unless they give a nice intro to the match about it's importance to ECW at the time...no. The match is pretty terrible, so fans looking to see what the hype was about with ECW that couldn't prior to this release (my friend Chris is one of them, as he got into wrestling in '02 and asks me why ECW was so hyped as a revolutionary company in the 90's) will be disappointed. Rey Mysterio Jr vs. Psichosis 2 out of 3 Falls Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 17.10.95 For a second I thought this was the 2/3 Falls match with Juvi. Should be pretty good, and show fans what Rey Mysterio Jr. was like when he was GREAT and not just very good. Mikey Whipwreck vs. The Sandman Ladder Match for ECW Championship Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 28.10.95 Ehhhh...there are better matches involving either Mikey or Sandman to show. I would've picked one of the Tag Team title tournament matches from late 2000 for Mikey (especially the finals between Mikey/Tajiri and Guido/Mamaluke), and maybe the match with Rhino from (I believe) Hardcore Heaven 2000. Sandman's best work was near the end of ECW, sadly enough. 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu ECW World Television Championship Match CyberSlam - Philadelphia, PA - 17.02.96 No complaints here. Never seen the match, but it's from back when Sabu wasn't complete shit, and Scorpio's okay in my book. Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA - 06/06.97 (Alternate Commentary) Surprisingly, I've never seen this match in its entirety, and I'm hyped. But they better have a NICE LONG video package chronicling the feud and why it was ECW's biggest for over two years. Tazz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow ECW World Television Championship Match Living Dangerously - Asbury Park, NY - 01.03.98 (Alternate Commentary) The Heat Wave '98 rematch is better. Decent match, but nothing of note until the big spot at the end. Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn ECW World Television Championship Match Hardcore Heaven - Poughkeepsie, NY - 16.05.99 (Alternate Commentary) I suppose one of them had to be included, but this is the worst one, as Lynn gets knocked out cold and needs to be carried by Van Dam for about 5 or 10 minutes (turns out as bad as it sounds). The previous one, from Living Dangerously '99, was better, and the one from a year later was the best of their series. I'm wondering why there's no Dudley Boyz/Dreamer & co, Tajiri/Super Crazy, or Awesome/Tanaka matches either. Or, if they're going for early ECW, why no Rotten/Rotten matches? Shitty bouts, but hardcore. And the lack of Cactus Jack and small bit of Raven is inexcusable, considering Raven, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, and RVD were ECW for a long time. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 The 2 COLD match is enough for me to buy it. I'm sure the DVD will blow, but I'm a 2COLD mark. Hence, the name. To further add to that, the Mikey match sounds intriguing but I still don't have high hopes for this DVD since I own all these others matches without any WWE changes. I still think they need to make a DVD library of every match in history with new announcers Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. Back to this, it's not the best matches of ECW and I don't even see them having one match that acknowledges the end of ECW. Hardcore Heaven was a long way from the end considering the life span of the company. It would be like doing a bio of George Burns, talking about his career till 55 and then saying, "and then he died."
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 They could have put Lynn/RVD from GAC2001 on there. It's the last ECW PPV match, and (IMO) better than Hardcore Heaven. Oh yeah, and I'm probably the only one here who would actually buy a DVD of Tanaka vs. Awesome. One of my favourite feuds ever. 12/24/99 = the shit.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2004 do we really need to see Candido, Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten and New Jack again? Yes and we need to see the cheese shredder, frying pans, staple gun, and the rest of the plunder that New Jack brought to the ring in the trash can. Hell it can be one of the Spike & New Jack vs the Dudley matches. Oh yeah, and I'm probably the only one here who would actually buy a DVD of Tanaka vs. Awesome. One of my favourite feuds ever. 12/24/99 = the shit. You might be better off getting the FMW dvds.
