Also, cheer for them because we need a back to back world champion that doesn't have a $180 million dollar payroll.

Only in Chicago of the American League do you get three types of season, A. A Thrilling start where the White Sox goes on a tear and takes the lead, but consistent to the excitement of "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!", the White Sox falls far and falls out of the playoffs. This will make you go "What the hell just happened here?" (See: 2004 Season) B. A slow start where everyone begins to write them off, but by summer, they heat up so fast that they are back in the lead, however by this point they have lost the casual fans. The White Sox makes the playoffs only to be swept. (See: 2000 Season) C. They suck plain and simple (See: Pretty much almost every season lately)

And judging from their unprecedented flaunting of their World Series win, their mocking of Moises Alou's tantrum in foul territory, and their continued lambasting of Steve Bartman, they have the maturity of a Little League team, too.

Thank you, Jay Mariotti. They should just act like robots out there. Why not be happy with the fact that you won? And as for the Bartman stuff, the only place I've seen that mentioned or reported it anywhere is DocOck's post about it. So maybe we need a bit more evidence before we talk about "continued" abuse. No one on the Cubs is upset about it, just the overly uptight fans. (I don't mean all Cubs fans, just the uptight ones)

All things considered, this was a team that lost 98 games last year and to bounce back this year is great. But they could have won the NL west this year. I point to the Steve Finley trade as the killer to the Padres year. Payton was not working out in CF for San Diego and everyone was expecting Finley to come, everyone from the team, to the fans, to Finley himself. He lives in San Diego, he was apart of those good Padre teams in the mid 90s, and it looked like he was going to finish off his career here. But the GM of Arizona has a grudge against San Diego and GM Kevin Towers. It stems back to San Diego breaking up Curt Schilling's perfect game in the 9th with a bunt and Kevin Towers calling Arizona a "very arrogant ball club" during their dominant years. The Dbacks GM was not going to listen to anything San Diego had to offer and instead decided to stick it to the Padres by trading Finley to LA. When that trade occured, the Padres were in the middle of 3 game series with LA and only 2 and a half back of the Dodgers. The Dodgers won the final game of that series in the 12th inning and Dodgers went on a hot streak after it. The Padres floundered with no real centerfielder, having used 5 different players since then. Finley has been on a hot streak since going to LA and has single handidly won games for the Dodgers. The part that gets me is that Finley will more than likely sign with the Padres after this season, but not before helping the Dodgers win the west.

Hey, I'm not saying they should be robots out there. Cubs aren't--look at Zambrano. Red Sox are far from robotic, as well. I just have a lot of problems with the Marlins, from the gaudy World Series patches, which the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Angels, or Braves have never felt obligated to do; to mocking Alou's anger about the Bartman incident (because Cubs fans are supposed to be sticking it to Alou on their own thank you very much); all the way down to the glorification of Jack McKeon's tobacco usage. They may not be approaching the New York Yankees' payroll, but they're certainly aspiring to be just as reprehensible of an organization as our buddies in the Bronx.
