Eclipse 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6115643/ There's the linkage. For some reason, I never liked the Leno's show. He is so unfunny, and I just have a better time watching Conan's show. Hopefully, when the show transfers over, they better bring along Conan's writers and Weinburg and the 7. Man, 2009 seems so far away....
Bored 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Holy shit that came out left field. Congrats to Conan although I can't help but wonder how much his show is going to be watered down.
Mik 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 How old is Conan now?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Five years from now? Come on...there is no way in hell to say Leno won't change his mind in 2007. This is really a major jump the gun announcement.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Oh boy, only five more years of hearing Leno's bad monologues replayed on my morning radio station
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 How old is Conan now? I think he's in his early 40's. And to show that time flies, it's been 12 years since Jay Leno leeched on the Tonight Show and sucked it dry. How was he able to suck for 12 years?
treble 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Ratings. I think a lot of people just watch it since it's the 'Tonight Show' and it's what they're used to. They probably just made this announcement now to keep Conan from jumping ship to CBS.

JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 I've enjoyed Conan for years, his humor usually makes me laugh for whatever reason. I don't know why they're announcing this so far in advance, but when it happens I really hope he gets to keep the same type of show instead of changing things up to be more "Leno-like". Guest Astro Report post Posted September 27, 2004 They gave Letterman a contract saying he'd get Carson's spot or else they'd give him 6 million dollars or somesuch, and NBC ended up paying him off, ater a court battle. /Vaguely remembers reading "The Late Shift"
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Hopefully, when the show transfers over, they better bring along Conan's writers and Weinburg and the 7. They've gotta bring the Walker: Texas Ranger lever as well.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 I never liked Letterman, I think Conan tries too hard to be funny in a Jim Carrey way. I've enjoyed Leno over the years, the guy's just brutal at hitting celebrities below the belt when they get in trouble.

If the change happens, he better keep Max Weinberg, Triumph, the Masturbating Bear, the Lever, and everything else. Basically, just a higher-budget version of his shows with better guests. Leno sucks so much IMO, I can't wait to see him gone.
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 It's good news, but I hope Conan doesn't have to take on Leno's role as "Master of Predictable Jokes". It also makes me wonder who'll replace Conan on Late Night.
Guest JMA Report post Posted September 27, 2004 This is great news. Conan is the perfect guy to take over "The Tonight Show." It's too bad 2009 is so far away...
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Unless Letterman retires as well, it would be a really tough decision at that hour for a lot of people in 2009...
Tawren 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2004 I'm actually a Leno fan. Not a huge one, but if it's on I'll probably watch it. Better than Letterman.
Karnage 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Holy shit that came out left field. Congrats to Conan although I can't help but wonder how much his show is going to be watered down. That's what I'm worried about after hearing this news. Don't want the Laugh Zone become Leno'd.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Even if the show is watered down, O'Brien is probably the best at being funny consistently despite whoever the guest is. He can have a witty conversation with a rock frankly. But yes, you gotta keep Triumph, the Masturbating Bear, an updated Pimpbot 5000 and the writing staff for Conan. And For God's sake, force Andy Richter to come back.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 They need to keep the Robert Smigle characters and the band.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 28, 2004 They won't make him into Leno Lite, but NBC will water him down. I just can't see NBC letting Conan do everything he does on Late Night on The Tonight Show. Late Night is the NBC show for wacky and crazy, Tonight Show is suppose to be the "classier" show. I'm sure they won't completely neuter him, but there will be changes.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 That's the only thing I am worried about. I don't want any of the Conan humor to be watered down. Conan's humor is my kind of humor, and if it turns into anything on Leno's show now......I WILL HUNT DOWN WHOMEVER IS RESPONSIBLE...

strummer 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 wow, I didn't know there were people who actually thought Jay Leno was funny, or even better, funnier than Letterman. I don't see how anyone could believe Leno is funnier than Letterman, but to each his own.
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 I never found Letterman that funny. Eh.
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Do you really like the plants in the audience and the Prep H donkey? Yes, I think most who like Conan find them funny. Which is to say, they are not Jay Leno. Btw- that's Preparation H Raymond, not a donkey.
strummer 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Here's some more on this from Wade Keller of all people: "Yesterday it was announced that Jay Leno had graciously agreed (after strong-armed tactics and threats) to retire in five years from the Tonight Show and hand over the reins to the younger, hipper Conan O'Brien to prevent Conan from jumping to ABC to go head-to-head with Leno and David Letterman. That means, of course, that NBC will be looking for the next person to take over the chair previously used by David Letterman and Conan O'Brien hosting Late Night after Conan's Tonight Show. Last time the chair was being vacated with Letterman going to CBS, Lorne Michaels picked Conan even though he had no previous talk show hosting experience. In fact, he had barely appeared on camera before. Obviously, with the success of Conan, NBC will be looking to take another unconventional route to finding a replacement. " I knew Jay had to be forced out, no way that guy would graciously give up a high paying gig. He NEVER turns down work. Of course, on the show last night he pats himself on the back for making such a selfless move. This guy seems to be one of the biggest phonies in show business, and that is saying a lot
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2004 Do you really like the plants in the audience and the Prep H donkey? I enjoy the awkward chant guy. Also, not an audience plant, but I miss "Pubes".

Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2004 Did anyone else find Lenos heartfelt speech to be a bit sarcastic, it seemed to me liek he was giving backhanded compliments to coney and you can tell he isn't happy about leaving in 5 years. Does this mean conan will have to move to LA? that sucks, I think NYC is the best venue for conans show as the LA crowd isnt smart enough to understand some of conans humor. I hope he brings "Actual items" with him to replace headlines, even though I like headlines a lot, conans goof on it always makes me laugh, and the funny part is the hollywood crowd is too narcasisitc and airheaded to see through it and would probably think its real lmao Bring back Andy as "Robot Opera Singer Who Fights Crime" Don't hate on Raymond "OOOOOOO if your crack's not feelin super, Raymonds here,Raymonds here, rub this cream right on your pooper, Raymonds here to help"
