Triple H's Most Embarassing Loss...

Recommended Posts

vs. Alex Wright

vs. Brooklyn Brawler (I believe he lost to the Brawler.. correct me if I'm wrong).

vs. Taka

vs. Henry O. Godwinn

vs. Ultimate Warrior

Add anymore if you can remember any.

From this list, I would have to go with Taka. H was over at that point.. HUGE.. I cant remember if he lost to the Brawler in a one on one match.. or if Brawler and Funaki were Taka's tag team partners in that match.

His loss against Alex Wright may look bad, but they were both newcomers, and for two green wrestlers.. they put on a very good match. Both could of been huge in WCW had it not been for the likes of people like.. Nash.. Hogan..

Ultimate Warrior, while being a big star.. was way past his prime. However, Triple H still was just a IC title man at this point.

Henry O. Godwinn.. well that was all Wrestlecrap.. who knows.

When did HHH lose to Henry Godwinn? Hunter WON the hog pen match at the Dec. 95 PPV, which people tend to forget. Did Godwinn beat him on Superstars or something?

I'd think that HHH's loss to Hogan at Backlash 2002 would be up there. After all that build, he held the belt for one month before Vince decided that a 50 year old was a better option as champ.

How do any of those matches but the Warrior one count?

vs. Wright: Both newcomers, got 15:00, and Wright got the win. NASH WAS IN WWF, and Levesque was a lower-midcarder at best. Hogan probably didn't give a rats ass who he was.

vs. Godwinn: Uh...Hunter never lost to him on TV

vs. Brawler: Not only was it 3-on-1, but Jericho interfered, and the referee didn't DQ him for it. So HHH lost 4-on-1.

vs.TAKA: Again...when did he lose to Michinoku? Must've been when HHH wasn't drawing heat with an electrified heat drawing machine in 1997 before being in DX>

vs. Warrior: HHH is built up as a hot up-and-comer for the better part of a year...then gets squashed horribly, pulls the KLIQ shit, and is depushed for another 6 months.

Only one of those choices actually makes sense, and it's one that makes a lot of it.

He lost to Taka in 2000 when he was probably at his most over. There was a lot of interference from what I remember, but still. It was a good match, too.

As regards Henry Godwinn, I THINK Hunter lost to him at Royal Rumble 96 meaning he had to enter at no.1 and Godwinn got no.30, though I may have that the wrong way round. Maybe the poster was thinking of HHH getting slopped instead of getting pinned outright, I don't know.

Whatever, I'd have to agree on dropping the belt to Hogan at Backlash 02 as his most embarrassing loss. 2002 was going to be his year (it ended up being his year anyway, but only after the brand split). He had his big face comeback from injury, got that massive response from MSG, won the Rumble, went over Jericho for the belt in the main event of Mania ... then lost one month later to an old man who was getting more cheers than him.

No one who's ever gone over at Mania has held the belt for just one month after it (apart from HHH again in 2000, though he had already had a four-month reign which lasted through the big event at that point). There's rarely been an example of someone's Big Push being nixed so quickly, so Backlash has to be the most embarrassing.

Droese def. Hunter by DQ at the Rumble FFA in question. Hunter entered #1 as a result, and #2 happend to be Godwinn. Hunter lasted for nearly 50 minutes while Godwinn was 2nd eliminated.

Hunter wasn't slopped, it was Lawler. Hunter and Backlund boith got out of the way of it while outside, but Lawlers back was turned so he took it.

Edit: On Hogan/HHH...I don't know. HHH wasn't really over, and Hogan was getting the best reactions. One of few times I think McMahon LISTENED to the fans when deciding who won the big title match. (WM XX I honestly can't count. Leading up to WM, the crowds weren't that into Benoit, but at WM he was getting the best reactions out of everyone on the show)

Besides, we had two run ins in that match, so again, HHH didn't job clean. To be an embarrasment, you have to lose to someone below you as clean as possible. All the ones but Warrior that actually happend when HHH was actually over happend with shitloads of interference.

I guess it depends how you define embarrassing. Publicly embarrassing ... Warrior. Politically embarrassing ... Hogan.

Agreed. Suddenly Hogan has become Enemy #1 on Triple H's list, despite claiming before then he had no beef with Hogan.

HHH didn't lose to Taka in 2000 (or any other time). Taka was HHH's mystery opponent in a WWF Title defense on the 4/10/00 edition of Raw. Taka scored several near-falls, but he didn't win the match. HHH pinned him with the Pedigree.

Of course, yeah, that was the match which came to mind but obviously the wrong one. I don't recall any other high profile match with Taka other than that one, though. Maybe the loss being referred to is the one to Tajiri on the tour of Japan from last year. If that's the case, I don't think that one was embarrassing at all. He put Tajiri over in the main event as a huge honour in front of the guy's home fans and got huge kudos for it at the time.

If that's not the one though ... Exactly which Taka match is being discussed and which Godwinn match? Clarity is required.

Triple H's most embaressing moment was easily jobbing to Duke the Dumpster Drose in the Royal Rumble 1996 Pre-Show. The Farm match with Godwinn and Wrestlemania against Warrior are both a close second though.

Didn't he lose to The Godfather? I vaguely remember a match between the two on a Smackdown. It was the opener, Godfather was the IC Chamipon at the time, and was starting to lose overness with the crowd. Triple H was the WWF Champion at the time.

Yeah, I believe Vince made that match and it happened before WM2000. I don't think Godfather was IC Champ at the time though. I just remember VInce screaming how Steph would go on the . . .

And now he is being rewarded for that loss with long reigns

I'd personally say his loss to D-Lo for the European Title before SummerSlam '98, even though it was far from clean if memory serves. Still, the Game losing to D-Lo. But i think in hindsight Warrior is the number one pick.

you can not really call losing to midcarder like d-lo in 1998 an embarassing loss as he was at the same level at that time. any loss to a midcarder beyond say 2000 could be considered embarassing like i mentioned before d-von in 2002

Warrior's definitely number 1. Getting fucking destroyed on WWF's biggest event of the year in less than 2 minutes.

IIRC, the Droese loss was a reverse decision DQ loss . . . although it is an anti-climatic way to end a 6 month long undefeated streak.

I could have sworn Bret was the first to end his streak.

Dates please of any Bret Hart / HHH televised matches, thanks in advance.

He even took a pinfall loss to Jericho around that time.

Surprisingly, CJ got a win in the Hogan/Savage feud of this generation, which makes the score . . . HHH 132 . . Jericho 1

Still, better than . . . Hogan 1,739 . . Savage 0 (not counting CO/DQ wins)

He lost to Godwinn in 1995-1996ish I cant remember what show. My friend has the tape, maybe ill borrow it from him and find out the name. It was one of those randomly put together tapes that WWF used to make.

As for the Taka.. I may have been mistaken. He was part of the Brawler match I guess and I just remembered it backwards or something. Although I swear I remember Taka kicking Triple H's ass sometime between 98-2000.

Lance fucking Storm beat him on his jobfest 2002 on Smackdown.

Nope, Test beat him. Lance lost.

I'm pretty certain Storm beat him at that time and that may have been the night he went ape-shit on everyone in the ring w/ the sledgehammer to close the show, leading to Edge confronting him the next week in what seemed to be a face/face feud between the two.
