Special K Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Slumber Party Massacre II Maniac Cop Straight to Hell Chillers Suicide Circle/Club
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Clue. Does "Clue" count? It's got a bunch of fairly well-known actors in it (Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull, Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeleine Kahn, Michael McKean). Great movie.
2GOLD Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Clue. Does "Clue" count? It's got a bunch of fairly well-known actors in it (Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull, Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeleine Kahn, Michael McKean). Great movie. Well, it wasn't very successful and it's based on a board game. But it achieved popularity outside of the theater realm so by definition it would be a cult film. But no, I wouldn't call it obscure so I don't think it fits here. It falls more into the Evil Dead catergory I'd believe.
SinToxic Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 only Happy Accidents comes to mind right now.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 I remember watching FrankenHooker and despite the premise and how bad the movie was, I found myself watching all of the movie. It was pretty silly premise: Genius loses his fiance to a freak lawnmower accident. He saves her head and other remains. After drilling his head for an answer (he actually inserts a drill into his cranium), he decides that he will create a new body for the love of life. So he creates super-crack and gives it to some hookers, who explode after taking a hit. He ends up creating his fiance's new body, but she keeps asking "Gotta any Money?" and ends up screwing her victims to death (she dry humps her victims so fast that they explode). This movie is so bad it is good and I am not sure many have seen it.

Any film with crack cocaine that makes you explode is cool in my book Blood Diner-not on dvd-1986-Two brothers find their insane uncles brain, and instructions on how to awaken an ancient egyptian goddess. However, they have to use the bodies of shapely women to awaken the goddes, so why not use their own diner? Cool spoof/homage to the films of Herschell Gordon Lewis has, among other things, a woman getting knocked off via having her head deep fried, zombies hungry for severed limbs in a pot, and a goose stepping nazi wrestler (I wonder if JBL has ever seen this?) All in all, a campy, gory blast.
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 I'm going to go with Starship Troopers here seriously, and Leprechaun in the Hood for some great unintentional comedy. "Ahhh, a friend with weed is a friend indeed!"
The Amazing Rando Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Never seen this one, Heard about it from a few friends. Might not actually be many copies in existence (but it's on IMDB.com) I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her On A Meat Hook, And Now I Have A Three Picture Deal At Disney" - 1993 - A first-time feature-film director (who's also the writer and producer) is casting the lead actress. We meet him talking to his wife about the picture and the process. We meet the actress, Sandy, negotiating with her roommate and talking by phone to her mother. Then, we watch Sandy audition for the director at the call-back session; also attending are the casting director and the production company's sycophants. The wrinkle is that the director is a homicidal misogynist, his wife is tied up and hanging from the ceiling, and Sandy has something in her purse that bodes a rocky future. Ben Affleck directed this beautifully-titled work while still in college. Talk about a way to get into the business...sheesh.
NoCalMike Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Donnie Darko(which is being rereleased in theaters as a director's cut) I Spit on your Grave Last House on the Left The Hills have Eyes Meet the Feebles
The Amazing Rando Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 I don't consider Donnie Darko much of an "obscure cult hit" anymore. I did when I first watched it, but I now know more and more people who have seen it. They don't necessarily UNDERSTAND it, which is part of it's charm, but they have seen it. I myself rented it, watched it, and then bought it the very next day. It was too good not to have. The Director's Cut could be good, but having the DVD and watching all the deleted scenes is the same thing. You get a bit more information on the whole thing, but it still leaves the viewer with tons of questions, all of which are great reasons to keep watching the movie over and over.
Guest Posada20 Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 I'd say Donnie Darko is very popular now, atleast online. I believe the director's cut has already been in theaters (I have the poster) and there's a director's cut dvd that came out not to long ago in another country.
SinToxic Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Suicide Club and Zatoichi (2003) for the good measure.
Zack Malibu Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 A lot of these really aren't obscure. I own quite a few (Crippled Masters, Maniac Cop) and can easily find Slumber Party Massacre,Frankenhooker, I Spit On Your Grave or The Exterminator. A few rather obscure ones in my collection are Offerings (A Halloween ripoff), Test Tube Teens From The Year 2000, and the rare Garbage Pail Kids Movie.
Brocklock Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Night Of The muthafucking Creeps I love that damn movie.
NoCalMike Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 well hell, I mean Halloween & Evil Dead were both indy movies with little to no INITIAL following, but look at how they turned out. Evil Dead may be the biggest "cult hit" ever, and Halloween(before My Big Fat Greek Wedding) was the highest grossing independent film.
Nighthawk Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Night Of The muthafucking Creeps I love that damn movie. They showed it on USA though, how obscure could that be?
MrRant Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 And it's on Cinemax at least 2-3 times every 3 months. A B movie sure but hardly obscure.
notJames Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I second Night of the Comet, if only for that blonde hotty who plays the younger sister. Does The Doom Generation count? If so, that's my pick. I also nominate Niagara Niagara and The Young Poisoner's Handbook. Neither of them are available on DVD, and hardly anyone I know saw them when they came out except for my wife and me.
razazteca Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 The whole series of National Lampoon shitty movies Last Resort, Loaded Weapon, Senior Trip. The only way you would see these are as late night movies on tv since I highly doubt anybody would be stupid enough to buy these.
Gary Floyd Posted October 19, 2004 Author Report Posted October 19, 2004 And it's on Cinemax at least 2-3 times every 3 months. A B movie sure but hardly obscure. Well, it hasn't been released on DVD yet, so I guess that counts Forgot to mention "From Beyond". It's from the director of "Re-Animator" and "Dagon". It's very loosley based on a short story by HP Lovecraft. But it's still a blast. It's also on a total Freudien trip, with phallic symbols gallore. Favorite lines from the movie" "It ate him! Bit him in half, like a gingerbread man!" "Don't eat those brains, they're bad for you!"
Guest ICE-MAN Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Night of the Comet was shown on SciFi with ROTLD3,Resident Evil and Day of the Dead. It was my friends B-Day and he's a huge zombie fan. I second the "The Specials" but what about "Killer Klowns from Outer Space".
Zack Malibu Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 The whole series of National Lampoon shitty movies Last Resort, Loaded Weapon, Senior Trip. The only way you would see these are as late night movies on tv since I highly doubt anybody would be stupid enough to buy these. Obscure and low quality are two different things. Just because people may not rush out to buy it doesn't mean it's unheard of. Another rare gem in my collection is The Mutilator, an early 80's horror flick. I'd also throw Bloody Birthday into the hat, but someone talked about it recently, I think in Deacon's movie column. Not sure how "obscure" it is.
Myxamatosis Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Come on, you guys haven't heard of "Refer Madness?" It's a fucking classic!
NoCalMike Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Hey fools, Night of the Creeps is on right now on Starz Mystery channel.
