Disturbing movies

Recommended Posts

Guest Banders Kennany

So I was thinking to myself "Banders what would be a good topic to start?" And suddenly it came to me. The Music folder had a very nice little discussion about eerie/distirubing songs and it came to that we should have this topic for the medium it comes quickest to mind for, movies!

So let me know Smart Marks, what movies have deeply disturbed you, or what movie have you heard about that were supposed to be really disturbing? They don't even have to be horror films, strictly speaking. And I'm not talking about Freddy scared you into a nightlight when you were four, I'm talking a movie that scares you into a nightlight now or stays with you for a long time after.

Let's try to steer away from slasher flicks, at least the well known ones like Chucky and Jason. After that it's fair game, but please, leave stuff like common well known stuff like Seven out, and at least get stuff that at least 10% of us haven't heard of before.

Here's my first one:

TESIS

The Eye has the most chilling moment that I've ever seen in a film. It's also a pretty fucked up (and great) movie overall.

Does that count?

Last House on the Left is pretty disturbing. Has some sick scenes, not gore or anything liek that just inhumane.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

The scene where the kid walks in the house.......if you seen it.....you know what I mean.

Irreversible mainly for the fire extinguisher melting into the skull scene and of course the 10 min rape scene.

Miike's Audition is another one. It's a slow creeper but worth the wait.

Human Meat Pies: The Untold Story. very powerfull stuff involving human hamburgers and the man behind the buns.

Memories of Murder - disturbing and sometimes funny.

the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover.

I'll try to think of some good Italian shockies from the 60-70's that not many people will be able to watch alone or twice.

Violent graphic gory movies don't disturb me in the least. I've seen most of the movies already mentioned, and none of them bothered me.

Happiness is the only movie to make me uncomfortable while watching it.

I have to say...I'm impressed by the choices made in this thread. You guys know you're disturbing movies.

Here's some for you

In a Glass Cage (Rape, Nazi pedophiles, and enough ugly, uncomfortable moments to make you want to clean your eye's out with steel wool)

Visitor Q (From Takashi Miike. Incest, human butchering, lactation, heroin addiction, rape, necrophillia, and other such moments. Have I mentioned that it's a comedy?)

Cannibal Holocaust (Never liked Italian cannibal films, mostly due to the real life animal torture and slaughter. This is supposidly the ultimate one, so be careful)

Any of the "Guniea Pig" films, especially "Mermaid in a Manhole"

I Spit on Your Grave (Can't believe no one mentioned this one yet)

The "Issla: Shewolf of the SS" movies. (I'll never get the popularity of nazi exploitation films)

Urotsukidoji (Besides well known scenes of tentacle rape, you also get a woman filled up with demon sperm to the point of explosion, castration, said lost member replaced by a tentacle, internal organs turning into a demonic being, a "Nazi Death Rape Machine", and other tasteless wonders that would make Freud go giddy. Or the Marquis de Sade. Man, is there anything the Japanese won't do?)

Eraserhead (a severe mind fuck)

Testsuo: The Iron Man (See Eraserhead. Also a sadomatocistic, psychosexual nightmare, with metal zits popping, a guy with a severe metal fetish, a man being sodamized by a metal pole by a woman, and a penis turning into a power drill.)

I would have to agree. I have not watched the movie for over ten years because of the way it left me feeling. It is a classic however, Wes Cravens debut, and oddly enough one of Eberts all time favorite movies.

Dear god...just dear god.

Agreed. If that movie doesn't make you cringe then you must be pretty screwed up already.

Battle Royale is a must-see. Funny Games, a German flick, is pretty damn upsetting too.

I know these pail in comparison to movies you guys have listed but:

The Accused, the rape scene may not be the worst ever on film, but damn it really bothered me for some reason...

Candyman, sure I can watch it anyday of the week now, but when it first came out, it spooked the hell outta me, i had to turn the lights on in the bathroom before I went in...

Arachnophobia, I'm very arachnophobic so this one really set me on edge...hell I thought I could feel spiders on me while watching it at the theaters!

Let's bump this up for two reasons:

1) It's almost Halloween.

2) Cannibal Holocaust hits DVD tomorrow. It's the 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition, and it's limited to only 11,111 copies. If you like the flick, or at least are interested in it, it looks like a winner.

Now, let's here some more suggestions.

For the time it was made I'd say The Seventh Victim (1943) is pretty disturbing. It's been on my mind lately since I got the Val Lewton box set. The ending always has stayed with me:

The missing sister Jaqueline finally escapes the satanists who tried to force her to kill herself. She goes back to her apt. that is entirely empty aside from a chair and a noose. After a brief conversation with her neighbor--who is dying of TB or something and wants to go out on the town before she dies--she casually walks into her apt. and in the last scene the neighbor walks down the hall and you hear a sound like a chair falling over....yes, she hung herself.

Liqour store owner finds a case of booze in the back of his store called Viper.

Starts selling it to the bums and they soon find out that when you drink it you melt.

Cheesy ass effects and a scene that involves all the homeless guys playing football at a junkyard with one of the bums severed penis.

Haven't seen it in ages but I remember one of the bums takes the cock and jumps on to the back of a fully loaded school bus that's passing by.

Classy stuff.
