the max 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Wow, i never thought Boston would win it all. The Tigers now have a longer World Series drought than the Red Sox. That's one thing I never thought I would say Uh... The Tigers won it in 1984, dude. In case you weren't watching, the Red Sox just won
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 EVERYONE has a longer drought for the WS than Boston now... Boston's drought is only... 90 minutes young And something forgotten is how they're the third WC team in a row to win the WS, which should put the anti-WC argument to a rest
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I thought the Anti-WC sentiment ended after the last 10 years proving to keep the regular season interesting through August and September.

Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 It is incredible. I went down to Kenmore and watched people get hurt. Scary, thrilling, everything I ever expected and more. Thanks, Red Sox.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Wtf were Jimmy Fallon doing with Drew Barrymore on that field?! They're filming a movie that revolves around their characters' love for the Sox. Anyway, congrats to the Sox. They wanted it and they got it. I believe after the BoSox did so well in the postseason, the Farrelly Brothers re-shot the ending to go along with the BoSox WS victory. And yes, this is amazing. I believe a tear might have fallen. Actually, it's a remake of a British film, and in the original the team that the guy was fanatical over won ... the idiot Farrelly Bros re-wrote it to have the Sox lose ... and now have to re-write it AGAIN to the original premise, with the team winning. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Anyone else catch the shot of 2 fans carrying a sign around after the game that said "We Forgive Bill Buckner"?
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 This is great. I'm so confused. I'm so used to the Red Sox never winning, and now they win. This is the greatest and weirdest WS win ever.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 This really isn't as big a deal as I thought it would be. I rooted for them of course, but it's like BigSwigg said. I am so used to them losing, I have no idea how to react. And I'm from Philly too, so maybe it just isn't as affective.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Well there was a fan there at the game they interviewed who said he would have no idea how he would react to their win... apparently Boston chose rioting...

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 You know, on the other hand, I'm sort of pissed off about this World Series, because I was like, "THESE are the mighty St. Louis Cardinals?!? These are the guys that beat my Cubbies by like 30 billion games?" If these are the guys that played a major role in keeping us out of the postseason, I'd sorta hope they could at least put up a fight, have the lead for, shit, ONE inning? Now I feel like the Cubs got beat by a really shitty team.

That's one thing I never thought I would say Uh... The Tigers won it in 1984, dude. In case you weren't watching, the Red Sox just won Oh, shit, I misread it. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 28, 2004 I will admit, part of me died last night. It's a shame that the greatest rivalry in all of sports is now, in effect, dead.
Mole 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 It's a shame that the greatest rivalry in all of sports is now, in effect, dead. What? How is the rivalry dead? Soo, when the BoSox have their home opener against the Yanks, and the Yanks get to watch the BoSox get their rings, that won't mean anything? If anything, this will make the rivalry bigger.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 The rivalry is now bigger because both teams can be considered championship squads. And when that does happen (Flag raising vs. Yankees), it will only motivate the Yankees and put a spark back into it. Plus, Pedro might be a Yankee. I mean really, it's like just beginning. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 28, 2004 It's a shame that the greatest rivalry in all of sports is now, in effect, dead. What? How is the rivalry dead? What in the hell do they have to be rivals over? The Yankees now hold nothing over the Red Sox. Boston won. It's over. We're now standard "Your team plays near my team! BOO!" Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Damn. The Yankees win 3 playoff matches over the Sox, the Sox win one, and it's over? WTF kind of rivalry is that?
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 It's a shame that the greatest rivalry in all of sports is now, in effect, dead. What? How is the rivalry dead? What in the hell do they have to be rivals over? The Yankees now hold nothing over the Red Sox. Boston won. It's over. We're now standard "Your team plays near my team! BOO!" I'm sorry for my language here, but this is officially the dumbest fucking statement I have ever read in my entire life. History doesn't just disappear. Maybe you saw things from the eyes of the winner for far too long to appreciate the scope of this rivalry. Don't you think the Yankees are going to come back and look for revenge? Isn't there drama in seeing if Boston can beat them again? Why do you think George is going to reload the team? (It's not to beat the Orioles). No two team combination has as much history as the Yanks/Sox, especially with the 0-3 come from behind victory. I can't fathom how you could possibly believe what you just wrote. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 It's a shame that the greatest rivalry in all of sports is now, in effect, dead. What? How is the rivalry dead? What in the hell do they have to be rivals over? The Yankees now hold nothing over the Red Sox. Boston won. It's over. We're now standard "Your team plays near my team! BOO!" I disagree. Next year is a pivotal point in the rivalry. Can the Yankees reestablish themselves as the dominant power, or can the Red Sox unseat the dynasty once and for all? Next year the Yankees need to stop the turning tide of history, or who knows how it will end.
mike546 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 And what happens if both teams, *gasp* don't play each other in the playoffs, and don't make it to the WS?

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 29, 2004 WTF kind of rivalry is that? A special rivalry. Not some cookie cutter, run of the mill garbage like "They play near each other!" Or "They played each other in the playoffs once!" The whole basis was that the Yankees had some kind of hold over the Red Sox. The Red Sox could never beat the Yankees in anything meaningful, and if they managed to outlast them, The Curse would set in. Well now, both are dead, and so is anything special about the rivalry. It's now no better than Yankees vs. Mets or Yankees vs. A's
Mik 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 It's still a rivalry! What are you, Anglesault's clone or are all NY fans just demented? You know who the Red Sox play when they get their rings? The Yankees! They will ALWAYS be rivals. There is too much history for it to be just another series.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Don't you think the Yankees are going to come back and look for revenge? Don't you think the Yankees are going to come back and look for revenge? I don't particulary care, to tell you the truth. Even if they do it'll be a year too late. It'll be hollow and meaningless. What will winning the season series next year prove? Or even the World Series? That the Yankees can? I think everyone here knew they could. They just didn't. Isn't there drama in seeing if Boston can beat them again? Not really. They have nothing left to prove. They did it. Why do you think George is going to reload the team? So he can win it all. I'm not going to like the Red Sox next year, and I hope we beat them. Just as I hope we beat every other above average team that might be a playoff opponent.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 29, 2004 It's still a rivalry! Sure it will. They're in the same division and they play near each other. And they'll both be good. I'm sure Oakland and Seattle felt the same way about each other a couple years ago.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 29, 2004 This is why Anglesault is one of the stupidest fuckers on this board Tell me, what do the Red Sox have left to prove by winning at this point? What can the Yankees possibly gain back by winning?
