Precious Roy Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 In regards to a discussion in the OAO thread about whether or not the short AJ-Petey match would lead to a longer rematch, well, hate to say I told you so, but this 6 man was pretty obvious and it's apparent that TNA isn't interested in giving more than 10 minutes to the X guys because they think packing a ton of action into a shorter time period is the way to do things. Can't argue that point about most of their workers, but with guys like AJ, Petey, Sabin and Daniels they have enough talent to carry longer matches, spread out the action, and keep the audience engaged. There's a crowd out there that will only order shows on the promise of long workrate matches, and I think TNA made a mistake not throwing them a bone last night. Anyway, The best way to do this would be to have Brown pin Jarrett at the end of the match and then have him totally destroy Nash and Hall on the way to the next PPV. That's exactly how they need to do it. It's too soon to put the title on Brown, despite what some posters in this thread think, and that 6 man will do a LOT to establish him as a prime time player. December/January will be all about Monty, but for now it's good to get him that rub from Savage, Hall and Nash, that's what you're paying them for, and hopefully the people that come to see them stay to see Brown when he goes one on one with Jarrett and hopefully gets a Goldberg-Hogan style victory.

Small problem --- Brown completely lacks the heat Goldberg had. Why give him a monster push when he is not showing even the tiniest semblance of drawing a dime? Goldberg, as inept as he was, DID draw fans. You don't hear fans chanting for Monty for the ENTIRE EVENING. There is no rub the old guys can give him as they are incapable (and most likely unwilling) of selling well enough to help him. -=Mike
Precious Roy Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I'm not saying Monty is Goldberg, and Jarrett sure as hell isn't Hogan, what I was talking about was simply the style of match they should work when Jarrett finally drops the belt to him. Think about the Georgia Dome match and that's what I want to see between them, no bullshit with run-ins and guitars and a schmozz finish that cuts of Monty at the knees. Is that clear enough? Monty is over with TNA's audience, everyone who saw Victory Road seems impressed with his performance, and the rub of working this 6 man with the big names should increase his sphere of popularity. It's the best case scenario at this point considering they've already brought in the dinosaurs. Would you rather see Jeff Hardy in the six man?

I'd like, just once, for AJ to be given the belt and pushed as the top guy. During ALL of his reigns, he was pushed as being beneath JJ (it was always "When will Jarrett get his belt back?") -=Mike
Precious Roy Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I agree that AJ got fucked over by Jarrett, but it's water under the bridge. AJ is already their biggest draw as far as I'm concerned, and he's one of the only guys who can draw on the undercard. Better to strike when the iron is hot with Monty, establish him, then go back to AJ at top down the road. The creation of viable new stars is essential to their long-term survival, and whether you like Brown personally or not (I'm not really a big fan myself, though I like his intensity) they have a chance to do that here.

I agree 100%. Monty is on the verge being something TNA hasn't had in awhile: a fresh face in the main event that is as homegrown as homegrown can be. While they have all these names around, they need to put Monty over strong so that he can draw for them when the names are gone.
Guest ShootingStylesPress Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I like that video. I think I've seen that shot of AJ doing his spinning attack on Jerry Lynn a thousand times.
Guest whitemilesdavis Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Monty is going to be a flash in the pan. Guys like him get over quick and burn-out quick. You gotta use him now, if you are going to use him, because he won't be wrestling in two years.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Monte MAY be a flash in the pan, but that will depend on two things. 1)Weather or not TNA is around or not. 2)If he REALLY wants to wrestle and has a passion for it.........he'll stick with it. If TNA is smart with Monte, build him correctly, and make sure his in ring stuff improves.........they'll have a star on their hands. But then again........it's TNA we're talking about.
Exslade ZX Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Just a quick question...who was is it in the vids that says they competed in the olympics?
cmpunk04 Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I have heard people say it was AJ sayng that but I have no clue if it is true or anything.
{''({o..o})''} Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I thought it was "could have competed...".
Magus Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Instead of a lame-ass six-man main event for "Turning Point", they should just do this: Let Hall and Savage have a short "legend" kind of match, then have Monty vs. Jarrett in the main event. It needs a World Title match if its going to be a so-called "event". Then JJ can lose to Monty and blame it on the Outsiders for not being there or something. Of course they'd never do that, though.
{''({o..o})''} Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 ...because that idea sucks? Premature ejaculation basically.
Guest bigrockstar Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Jarrett vs Brown Pete Williams vs Kid Kash Hardy-Aj Styles vs Outsiders DDP vs Raven Abyss-Truth AMW-XXX (cage)
TNABaddboi Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Question: Is the face team in the ME scheduled to be Savage/AJ/Brown or Savage/AJ/Hardy? I assumed that they'd have Monty challenge Jarrett and get confronted by JJ and Co. so that he can get thrown into the mix to start building toward a one on one match with Jarrett at Final Resolution, but if my memory serves me correctly, at the end of the second FSN special, Tenay talked about how Savage/AJ/Hardy were the perfect people to stand up to Nash, Hall and Jarrett. This would indicate that Monty's out. What do you guys think? What's gonna be the team and if Monty's out, what does he do at Turning Point?
slimm44 Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 After this week's Impact, they can go Brown vs Jarrett and Outsiders vs Hardy and Styles, or if Savage is coming back, they can have the 6 man tag as planned. This week they better make more main event matches, otherwise they'll be making matches too close to the PPV with little hype a la WWE
Guest Banders Kennany Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I don't think they even begin to trust Savage with all his recent antics. They should just run an angle where the Outsiders kill him off outside the Impact Zone and use it like they ran him off for good to make Savage pay and give them a rub. Or they can give maybe Team Canada a rub and have them finish off Savage.
2GOLD Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 The Truth started out with NWA-Wildside when they still had a deal with WWF if I remember correctly. So actually, he would be homegrown.
Guest Phenom Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 It'd be: El Kabong vs. The Alpha Male for the NWA Title 3LK vs. Hall/Nash for the Tag-Titles Raven vs. Diamond Dallas Page Kazarian will probably fight some guy Billy & Chuck reunion! The Women's Division doubles in size as Gail Kim, Nidia Guenard, Chyna, and Debra Austin join TNA. OMGSTONECOLD~! Eh, it'll never happen.
snuffbox Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Why does TNA seem so desperate to follow the wcw gameplan? Its fairly obvious that wrestling fans would like an alternative to wwe, tna has a tv deal, some good workers, and now have major ppv events...why take the route that so obviously failed? TNA could be good and take advantage of wwe's problems...but dont seem interested. Is it all Jarretts fault, or is it some sort of mass retardation?
Guest Coffey Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 So TNA think they can pull off a PPV every month instead of every other month like ECW?
slimm44 Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 on TNA's website, Turning Point will be in Orlando and saluting the US Troops and unlike Victory Road admission is free.
2GOLD Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 on TNA's website, Turning Point will be in Orlando and saluting the US Troops and unlike Victory Road admission is free. ....what?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 TNA could be good and take advantage of wwe's problems...but dont seem interested. Is it all Jarretts fault, or is it some sort of mass retardation? Jarrett is in charge of creative, so the problem has to lie with him. Like almost everyone who runs their own promotion, Jarrett has an overinflated sense of his worth, and pushes himself beyond tolerance. Not to mention that he and Mantell seem to have no clue what fans want, and are pushing what they think works, rather than what actually works.
TheBigSwigg Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 on TNA's website, Turning Point will be in Orlando and saluting the US Troops and unlike Victory Road admission is free. ....what? Actually, I'd say it's more like "WHAT? HAVE THEY LOST THEIR GOD FEARING COTTON PICKING DADGUM MINDS?"

TNABaddboi Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 TNA's website has listed the following matches: NWA Tag Team Title Match: 3Live Kru vs. Team Canada Kid Kash, Michael Shane and Kazarian vs. Hector Garza, Sonjay Dutt and Sonny Siaki The six man should be good and the tag title match is just kinda there. I hope they add some sort of gimmick to it so it's not just a pointless rematch (of course, just my luck, they'd make it a flag match. lol). But anyway, that brings the total to 7 matches so far, with 2 weeks to go. We've also got Savage/Styles/Hardy vs the Kings, AMW/XXX-Six Sides of Steel, Monty/Abyss, DDP/Raven and Sabin/Williams. It's an interesting line-up. Thoughts?
slimm44 Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Well with a few weeks of hype the card does not look great. But with some returning names (DDP, Hall/Nash and Savage), the cage match, it should be a good show. TNA is really hyping the Salute to the Troops but I don't know how many will show up. People will probably show up early again to try and get seats. I'm looking forward to it.
Placebo Effect Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Who in the hell gave TNA the idea that monthly PPVs were a good idea right off the bat with ONE HOUR of TV a week. ECW at least had Hardcore TV to accompany the TNN show.
