Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 What's the C4 and why should I believe that he is getting signed for any other reason than his size?
IWD 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I believe the C4 is the standing shooting star press, which is one of his moves. I may be mistaken though. From a review from thesmartmarks.com (http://thesmartmarks.com/artman/publish/printer_1167.shtml) Paul Birchall vs. Double Dragon Birchall is a very physically impressive guy, about 6 foot 4 by my rough estimate and jacked to the nines. Double Dragon jump him before the bell, but he no-sells a double clothesline and drops them both with hard forearms. Birchal grabs Jordan, he gets a Northern Lights, floats over and turns it into a KRYPTONITE KRUNCH~! Ghosh now tries a some offense, but a sitout powerbomb kills that dead. Birchall stalks the butler, but runs into Double Dragon double stomps back in the ring. Double basement dropkick takes Birchall off his feet for the first time. Double hiptoss, double elbow, double pose by Double Dragon- BUT BIRCHALL IS UP, and somebody gonna die. He FLINGS Jordan into the air into a fireman’s carry, Ghosh cuts him off. Birchall grabs a pumphandle, Jordan tries to save, and BIRCHALL SUPLEXES BOTH OF THEM OVER HIS HEAD! WOW!! These are decent size guys too, about 200 pounds each. Birchall on the top now, GRACEFUL MOONSAULT…hits mat, and the Dragons take their chance to bail. No go, because the monstrous Birchall hits a RUNNING SOMERSAULT PLANCHA ON BOTH OF THEM! Basement dropkick to Jordan, Birchall whips him in, Jordan tries a firman’s carry, reversed by Birchall into a rolling fireman’s carry. HOLY SHIT, STANDING MOONSAULT BY BIRCHALL! HOLY FUCK, STANDING MOTHERFUCKING SSP BY BIRCHALL! Ghosh tries a crossbody off the ropes- that ain’t happenin’, EMERALD FUSION~! Birchall wins by KO. Holy Shit, why isn’t this guy WWE Champion RIGHT NOW?! Birchall has the look, the size, has the hoss-tastic high impact suplexes and absolutely freakish agility. Think Mike Awesome upgraded to the 1,000th power. I’m telling you, if there’s anybody in WWE or TNA reading this (doubtful, but hey, one can dream), SIGN THIS GUY RIGHT NOW! As for the match, it was a squash, but WHAT A SQUASH! Winner: Paul Birchall Rating: **1/4 Cheers.
Garth 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I have to say this is excellent news. In all honesty Burchill is a hell of a signing. This man has many upsides: he's entertaining as anything, he's big so you know he'll get a push, and he has an excellent movest. Granted allot of his moves will probably be taken away, but I still think this man will get over.
Guest Dazed Report post Posted November 11, 2004 A 30mb zip of a whole bunch of his moments. This is good news, hopefully they'll make the most of him. ()
AlaskanHero 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 He's going to suck. That's the opinion I'm gonna keep until he's proved himself in the WWE. Not OVW, the WWE. That way I won't get sucked up into the hype and be really disappointed if he is bad. And he shows that he's great in Big E, then I can be all excited and shit. It's win-win. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Too bad he'll probably be a boring mess by the time OVW gets through destroying him.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Yeah, they'll turn him into the usual WWE big man who does spinebusters and side slams. But if they can retain some of his uniqueness, than he'll be a good pickup.
Guest Mordecai's Cathedral Report post Posted November 11, 2004 A 30mb zip of a whole bunch of his moments. This is good news, hopefully they'll make the most of him. () Holy Shit. Awesome! Too bad the WWE will fuck him up beyond recognition.

clean rob 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Cool. Burchill was one of the three guys I named as a pick in that 'who should WWE pick up after the firings' thread a week or so ago. Provided he doesn't get his moveset reduced too badly, he'll at least make for some fun spots. Whether he can pick up the WWE heavyweight style like Lesnar did remains to be seen, but I'm hoping for good things to come out of this. FYI, the C4 is the standing moonsault rock bottom (standing one man spanish fly?) he does.
humongous2002 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Damn, the guy looks very promising. All he needs to do is to bulk up a little bit more to get that unstoppable monster look just like Snitsky or Lesnar, keep all those moves he's doing right now, have Regal as his manager and he'll be WWE/World champion in no time.
clean rob 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 have Regal as his manager Good idea. I don't want him bulking up too much though, it'll end up reducing his speed and agility.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 'Bout damn time. With a decent manager and gimmick, the potential is there. But I can't help but feel a bit sceptical. You know the unique style is going to be downsized and he's also a foreigner, which increases the chances of a bad gimmick. But there's hope.
pgi86 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 !!!!Now that took me by surprise.I knew that he had a try-out when WWE was in the UK but still I didn`t think they`ll actually sign him.Well, bad for FWA and GREAT for WWE.Hopefully this time around they`ll get their heads out of their posteriors and let him be Burchill and not some watered-down version of himself.Regal as manager...hmmm...could work but I`d say no.I have no idea who should be though.Maybe Heyman?I know it`s kinda not original but that would be a great paring. The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 HOLY SHIT. That guy is incredible. No idea if he can work a match, but SHIT, some of those moves were just insane. By the way, I have to mention the funny disclaimer that runs with every clip about how "Mr. Burchill is not responsible for any broken bones."
Guest Heppyhack Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Fantastic news, not just for Burchill but for the UK wrestling scene as a whole. He's one of the most impressive talents on the circuit - great mat wrestler for other feds as well as a high impact guy with FWA. Give him a decent manager - Regal would be great, Heyman would be a good alternative (especially since his manager in the FWA is basically Heyman-lite). Let him use either the C4 or his tucked-in Vertebreaker as a finisher, hit the odd moonsault or standing SSP, and he can get away with a paired down, brawling WWE moveset otherwise. My only concern would be his size. Up against the small British guys he looks a monster - but so did Mike Awesome in ECW. In the WWE, he could run the risk of generic hossdom and get lost in the shuffle. Now if only they actually cared about the cruiserweight division at WWE, they could get Storm and Tighe in and have a nice British stable.

edotherocket 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I think they should import some of the psycho British announcers too.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted November 11, 2004 You know, after watching those video clips, he didn't impress up until the very end where he did the standing solo Spanish Fly. I definitely marked out for that. WWE wouldn't let him do ANY of that stuff though. He wouldn't be doing rolling samoan drops or standing shooting stars on Raw. It was more impressive to me when Taz did the suplexes, because he's small. When some huge guy does suplexes (like Scott Steiner) it's not as impressive. Still, he seems better than Nathan Jones, Heidenreich and Gene Snitsky.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Report post Posted November 11, 2004 How big is he exactly? According to his bio from the FWA Training site, he's 6'4 281lbs. I think it's great news that he's been signed and about damn time, aside from all his power and aerial moves, he's also done a fair bit of training under Chris Hero to improve himself as a technical wrestler too. Anyway, i'll just follow the sentiments posted above and hope that WWE doesn't fuck him up. Now if they'd only sign James Tighe as well .
edotherocket 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 This reminds me of the hype behind Lesnar and Gail Kim before they arrived. There was that OVW clip of Lesnar doing a SSP doing the rounds on the internet and Gail Kim had a training video designed to make her look like a female Rey Mysterio. Lesnar landed on his head for his Wrestlemania Moment and Gail Kim's name was spelled wrong when they fired her, less than a year on. Hopefully things work out better this time. EricMM 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 who the fuck in WWE country besides London, Hurricane, and Funaki could take the C4? RVD I guess. Ok fine, probably most of the SD! 6 from back in the day. But I'm talking Raw, today. Which of the hosses can take it? None?

He's pretty good on the mat, as anyone who's been to All Star will say. Not Doug Williams good, but certainly a decent technician. So there's no chance of him being another Nathan Jones. I know he was in for a tryout when WWE were over here doing Raw and SmackDown, although only Rob Brookside got a dark match (and a missed opportunity, if they'd gone for Brookside v Regal...) so it's been on the cards that they'd be interested in him. What it should hopefully do is encourage them to look at more talent over here - there's enough decent young talent in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe that they'd do well to have one of these much vaunted new developmental leagues over here.
