JHawk Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Was there a moment when Jim Garvin turned heel and started teaming with Michael Hayes (89ish) or did they just come out to the ring for a match. I don't remember Garvin doing anything at all after his feud with Flair over Precious faded away and at around that time Hayes would have been a face in World Class. Garvin debuted as the "new" Freebird member at the June '89 Clash of Champions (VII). From what I've gathered, they hyped that the Birds would be getting a new member (Gordy was still with NWA/WCW at the time), and out came Jimmy Garvin with Hayes and Bam Bam. They went on to win the World Tag-Team Titles at that show. But it made no sense because Garvin was injured by Kevin Sullivan in August 1988, which led to Eddie Gilbert's babyface turn, and Garvin shows up after nine months off to wrestle as a heel with the angle forgotten. Granted, at the time of Garvin's injury, Dusty was booking, and Flair was booking when he returned, but wow was that a major logic gap. I was ten years old at the time and went "What the hell is this?"

Richard Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Flair was booking in July 88 - are you sure? I thought the power play that outted Dusty was late 88 August '88 (when Garvin is injured) - Dusty is booking June '89 (When Garvin returns as Freebird) - Flair is booking

Starcade 88 promo 2 of the 3 matches promo'd didn't take place at the PPV One of those matches was canceled due to Vince signing the Sheepherders, though Crockett/Turner should be blamed for not having them under contract.

It's no secret they want Jim Cornette back to do WCW but don't expect that deal to be done. It's funny, but probably the best guy they could put in that role if they want Ventura for syndication is right under their noses and worked in a job role on syndicated tapings 2/2--Scotty the Body.

rezinda Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Just watched Nitro from 8/24/98 & it contained a whole lot of what the fuck moments Hennig & Jericho battled to a 10 minute time limit draw in 6 minutes. Main event between Goldberg & Nash v. Hogan & Giant continued despite inteference from both NWO's. Eventually Goldberg pinned Hennig who wasn;t even in the match.

That match and the Luger match on Nitro are just two examples of wrestling done RIGHT. People can criticize it now all they want but when you a whole arena going nuts and not one person in their seat...that's huge.

I was there and the crowd went nuts for both him and Nash. It was such a boring undercard and everyone pretty much had the life sucked out of them when Bischoff pinned Flair, that the crowd was waiting for anything to wake them up.
