El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 I'll keep this short. The only decent radio station in Houston, Rock 101, was taken off the air today by Clear Channel. ..for what? A fucking Spanish language rap station. I mean, there are only like 4 of those down here, right? *twitch* Granted, there are always mp3s and such..but it's depressing. MrRant 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 I heard about that on another forum. Don't you guys have like no more rock stations down there now?
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2004 There's the local classic rock, and 94.5 is supposedly..(translation: loads of crap). KLOL is the only thing that was actually decent.

LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2004 Yeah this pissed me off royally. 94.5 The Buzz can be pretty crap but lately they've been playing some good stuff. Now with 101 gone The Buzz has taken on some of 101's songs into their lineup. They play Metallica now and have picked up "Mandatory Metallica" from 101. Walton and Johnson, 101's morning show guys, basically came to work and were told they didn't have jobs anymore the day that it happened. They're suing Clear Channel now because of it. EDIT: Correction, Walton and Johnson were told the night before that they didn't have jobs over the phone, but it's still bad.

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 Clear Channel is fucking us over fairly efficiently in the Georgia/South Carolina area. They turned off the pop station, Y105, and the oldies channel 93.9, and replaced them with country channels. We now have 5-6 country channels, one dedicated Rock channel, one rock/emo channel, one easy listening channel, one adult contemporary channel, and 300000 talk radio channels. FUCK YOU CLEAR CHANNEL! Not everyone that lives in the south is a country-loving redneck.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 I have to suffer thru pop punk and country stations or the 5 spanish channels of pure crap. Have you ever heard spanish covers of popular music like the Grease theme song or Achy Breaky Heart in spanish?!?!?! And a big FU to Big & Rich being played nonstop on all channels. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2004 ..for what? A fucking Spanish language rap station. I mean, there are only like 4 of those down here, right? There are now 16 Spanish stations in Houston. I'd love to hear someone from Clear Channel explain how there can possibly be a market for that many. I guess "the growing Hispanic demographic" means you have to ignore all the other ones. RIP KLOL; it wasn't a great station, but it was definitely the best of the lot. I guess it's even more sports talk for me now. And a big FU to Big & Rich being played nonstop on all channels. Indeed. And to further that point, anyone who actually likes Big & Rich is a fucking retard.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2004 I've heard some fairly nasty rumors (especially that even more channels will go Spanish) but we'll see about that. Honestly, I don't like listening to CD's. Hearing one artist consecutively gets on my nerves after a while, and occasionally just liked to hear what was on the radio. *shrugs* (Insert a whole diatribe of CD's being overpriced and music sucking, and bitching about the RIAA here)

Actually, Clear Channel's (and so many other companies) ability to own several stations in one market comes as a result of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton. (WHY? I don't know. Very odd) This law relieved some of the FCC limitations on station ownership, as well as network ownership, Which is why Clear Channel owns so many radio stations, and Viacom, Universal and Time Warner can own so many companies and networks. The head of the FCC didn't really do much with that.

TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 If I had my way, the TCA would be repealed and I'd bring competition back to entertainment media I second that. I think it would help to bring the prices of CD's down, and possibly make TV watchable again.

The ironic thing here is that the new 101 allegedly plays the largest variety of music of the CC stations. They play rock, pop, and hip-hop, but in Spanish, and not just Top 40-type stuff. Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Honestly, I don't like listening to CD's. Hearing one artist consecutively gets on my nerves after a while, and occasionally just liked to hear what was on the radio. *shrugs* Which is why I have a six disc cd player in my car and I put in different mixes with all sorts of styles and acts so i have a diverse mix of songs to hear and it keeps from having that "repetitive" feel. Radio has a more repetitive feel then listening to the same band over and over. Here where I live, we have a nice chunk of rock stations. One plays mainly Metallica, Nirvana and GNR non-stop with some current hits thrown in. Another is the emocore station and we have a couple oldies stations that plays Led, Floyd, Aerosmith and those stuff. We have a good couple of rap stations as well but they play for the dumb fanbase and it's mainly the shitty rap stuff like Nelly. Country dominates the area but i don't listen to it.
