The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou

Recommended Posts

I hope it really is released everywhere on Christmas Day and not one of these movies where it opens in NY and LA on Christmas and everywhere else in the middle of January.

Being a Wes Anderson film with a Wes Anderson cast, it should be interesting to gauge its mainstream success.

I'm definitely looking forward to it but, even so, I'm just a tad scared it won't live up to expectations. It's a bit of a departure for Anderson really, what with the computer animation and the supposed action scenes and stuff. Also, the fact that Owen Wilson didn't help write the screenplay (as he did with Wes' other three movies) could prove unfortunate.

Still, it's probably my most anticipated movie for the rest of 2004. This or Closer.

Paraphrasing:

Bill Murray: I love this time of night, you can hear the whales.

*horn goes off*

Owen Wilson: Ah, that's beautiful. I wonder what they're saying.

Bill Murray: Actually, that was a garbage barge... that's the whales.

And the whole time Owen is standing there with a pipe in his mouth and a smoking jacket on... Just hilarious.

Can't wait for this. It's been 3 years since the last Wes Anderson movie. Too long. Owen didn't help to write this one, but he's starring in it and that should be good enough.

I think that each of Anderson's movies get better, so I am really looking forward to this one. Will be tough to top Tenenbaums since it is one of my personal favorites.

I'm looking really forward to it also, and I'm glad to see others talking about it. I almost started a thread about the film last night, but went to bed instead.

Guy: What will be the scientific purpose of killing it?

Murray:...revenge.

I was sold after that line.

As was I.

This is a Bill Murray vehicle, so I'm bound to watch it at some point. But this one looks pretty damn good.

I'm planning to see this too; Wes Anderson is one of my favoite directors. I was sold when DaFoe got all pissy and said "Thanks. Thanks for not picking me."

Shame that we don't get it until February.

I thought it came out on Christmas...? Did it get pushed back or something?

I'd assume he's not from the US

I also I'm planing on seeing this movie as soon as I can. I am a big Royal Tenenbaums fan, plus....back in Senior year during high school I had an aquatic science class. We spent half of the time in the class watching nothing but videos from that French oceanogrpaher Jacque Closteau. This film looks to pay homage to that man.

One great moment in the videos was when Jacque had an interview with Fidel Castro which was so funny on the unintentional comedy scale.

Add me to the list of people looking forward to this film.

"Bottle Rocket" is one of my favourite films ever and I loved "The Royal Tenenbaums" too. The trailer looked pretty good and it has a great case so things are looking good for it.

Then "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" after that!

I have no idea why I bumped this but I've been on a Wes Anderson kick lately and god-fucking-damn if this movie isn't amazing. It didn't really stick the first time I saw it how great it was, I dunno if I was expecting Tennanbaums II but either way this upon second viewing is a fucking brilliant, BRILLIANT movie. Just like at the end of Tennanbaums the Jaguar Shark scene just makes me totally and completely break down.

Between this and Tennanbaums (which I consider a Top Five of this decade) Anderson is the Director of The Moment.

For me a big part of the ending was Sigur Ros.

Now, I fell asleep many times during this movie, I was tired and watching it on DVD, but when I woke up for the end, I think being half asleep made it better...
