The Monday Night Raw Discussion.

We are discussing two different things, DK.  I am strictly speaking of Maven-as-GM-of-RAW, while you are looking at it as Maven-as-important-character-of-RAW.  My point is, they have only one opportunity to do the GM thing with Maven and they spend the time doing THAT?  They could have done that w.o. him being GM.  They didn't personalize it, and whether you think the explanation for that with him is good is irrelevant because it destroys the whole concept of "GM for the day".  It made the Survivor Series stipulation meaningless if they don't play it up.

Not really...IMO, they couldn't have. Sure, on a RAW, they could have had Trips ask Maven 'Want to join evo or no?' and have him think about it...but then you have to think...Why the fuck would HHH ask Maven to join Evo!? I mean, Maven is not an important character. So there's no reason that he'd ask him. And secondly, this GM thing, they did use a one time deal and that was making his decision much more important because it was 'World Title, or Evolution'. On any other given day, Maven wouldn't have had a title shot, so that decision wouldn't even have been half as important. Maven did what he was supposed to do as RAW GM. And that was, give himself a title shot. You complain about him being in a passive position...well hey, the same as every other GM with the exception of Austin who really...didn't do much anyways.

And this is sort of off topic..but on..but who's to say that Chris Benoit, if given the chance is going to try to have 'the perfect wrestling show'? I mean, who's to say Benoit wouldn't ENJOY a Lita/Trish match for the Women's title? Or maybe Chris Benoit has a great time watching Viscera matches..(Referring to 'the actual', Chris Benoit). I mean most likely he might not..but I'm just saying. You act as if with Benoit's character, he's automatically gonna try to book ***** matches up and down the card, when it's been made clear, the one and only thing he cares about is getting the title. Even though he wasn't sucessful, but that was because HHH/Evo..proved just how smart he/they were.

I know most hate that...but most (unless they stop watching) have no choice but to get over it. Evolutions being pushed as a dominant force, and as the top guys...so of course they're gonna do something that elevates them.

It was a play on your "reading too much into things" card, which was fucking ridiculous as it is as surface-level as you can get. Benoit = good wrestler. Benoits RAW = good wrestling. Coach vs. Rhyno? Lita/Trish/Molly? Snitsky/Maven? = not good wrestling. Something isn't right there.

only a fool would have thought they were actually going to try to improve the Raw product top to bottom rather than look out for their own interests...

So what was the point of giving them total control of RAW if they aren't going to, you know, control RAW?

I pity you if that's what you truely in your heart thought would happen...

You pity me expecting the WWE to deliver on what they said? Maybe you should be pitying those that accept that the WWE continually fails to deliver, for they are the ones who have truly given up. I didn't think the WWE would go full-out on the GMship, but I will still hold them to it.

I'm no more impressed with Brock than I am with Batsista...

Then you clearly have not seen Brocks matches in relation to Batistas.

I didn't know personal opinions were subject to YOUR approval Rudo, oh god of all that is WWE knowledge...

Well...

Now you know.

Look on the bright side, Raw will be better than smackdown this week. As this will be the Thanksgiving smackdown where they know no people are watching. We will have the annual thanksgiving skank off, be it in costums or in a pit of something.

Week 1: Maven wins a match where the winner gets to face HHH in 2 weeks.

Week 2: Maven pins HHH in a tag match.

Week 3: HHH offers Maven a position on Evolution.

Not really that hard.

*snip*

The Rest I answered in one way or another above. In short, you make me hate being a wrestling fan. Good for you.

So is anyone expecting the Luger/Horseman breakup storyline to be recreated next week

In 1988 it was JJ Dillion telling his charges Tully and Luger to eliminae themselves so he could win the Battle Royal when they were the last 3. Tully tossed himself, but Lex said "f*ck it" and tossed Dillion to win it

I can see Flair, Trips, Batista being the last 3, Flair tosses himself...Dave turns on HHH...But doesn't quite get the job done, and HHH retains (with Flair's help or something)

Eh, maybe not....

The thing that really irked me about Raw, apart from the Triple H Ego Show aspect of it, which has already been discussed, is the fact they gave away Benoit v Edge in a cage, not only on free tv, but with only five minutes of hype. It's bad enough putting a PPV caliber match on Raw, but to literally give it away, with no hype to speak of, is just stupid. If they were going to put such a big match on Raw, the least they could have done was announce it at the very beginning of Raw, so they would have the whole show to push it. Instead, it got treated in a throwaway manner, further establishing that neither man is that important, because their match didn't get any push.

In kayfabe, all WWE wrestlers are good wrestlers.

If you meant Benoit should have just put on technical wrestling matches then it's understandable I suppose. But, if you're saying Benoit should have only booked matches to go *** and over, then if it's alluded to in any way, it buries the likes of Snitsky and Maven.

I didn't see him call you any names or anything, he just corrected an error.  Calm down.

Well, fanofcoils seems to be really anal about things.

And to add to the point, Batista will be 36 in January, so if they want to do something with him, they can't wait around forever.

Yeah, you know what, you're right. They should have done what they did...IGNORE THAT HE WAS THE GM OF RAW BY COPPING OUT WITH THE "ANYONE CAN SIGN UP" SHEET. Seriously, does having expectatations kill people around here? By that I mean "completely reasonable expectations".

The point about burying Maven and Snitsky is hilarious because Maven was buried in that match.

The WWE booking Edge/Benoit is funny, cause by the time they have their "big blow off", no one will care (well, as evidenced by the cage match, no one does) because they will already have given the fans the matches a dozen times over. So far we've had Edge/Benoit twice. Their reasoning is that since there hasn't been any pin-falls, that these matches don't really "count". If this lead up to an "I Quit" match, then that would be worth it... but I doubt it will.

How the hell could Benoit (or anyone) be able to book a QUALITY two hour technical wrestling show with the roster presented to him?

Chris Benoit v Chris Jericho to go 25 minutes

Williams Regal v Triple H to go 17 minutes

Shelton Benjamin v Edge to go 15 minutes

Randy Orton v Christian to go 14 minutes

Ric Flair v Eugene to go 12 minutes, with Eugene in full idiot savante mode

Add the requesite promos, and there's your 2hr Raw Is Wrestling

Why would Benoit want to fight Jericho? "Well, it'd be a helluva technical wrestling match."

Regal/HHH would obviously be great to watch as long as Regal works stiff. But, it'd make no sense unless Benoit wants to throw away his World Title shot.

Benjamin/Edge would be A-OK.

Orton/Christian . . . What's the score of that MNF game?

Eugene/Flair would be pure entertainment, not technical wrestling.

My prediction for order of elimination:

1. William Regal

2. Val Venis

3. The Hurricane

4. Shelton Benjamin

5. Rhyno

6. Rob Conway

7. Garrison Cade

8. Steven Richards

9. Chris Jericho

10. Christian

11. Eugene Dinsmore

12. Ric Flair

13. Gene Snitsky

14. Rosey

15. Maven

16. Sylvain Grenier

17. Tyson Tomko

18. Viscera

19. Adam Copeland

20. Tajiri

21. Batista

22. OMG SWERVE~!

As both Trips and Benoit are eliminated at the same time! Oh noes! But next week it's Chris Benoit vs. Triple H....vs. GM Y2J+4! Only on Spike TV! Seriously, RAW and MXC are all we got!

And TSN for you crazy Canucks

We can't have that thar logical thinking in a WWE thread.

I know it doesn't make sense. But, to be fair, not much does make sense in WWE anymore, so why not just do it.

Oh yeah, I'm not arguing that wouldn't be a nice Raw but for actual wrestling talent, the Raw roster is pretty thin . . . hell the WWE roster is pretty thin.

Actually, a Benjamin/Edge feud would be a helluva program once Benjamin drops the gold.

I think the fact that you can't put together a quality line up, from a talent perspective, shows that the gulf between the Raw and SD rosters isn't as big as it would first appear.

That line up would still make for an entertaining Raw.

That line up would still make for an entertaining Raw.

But the 'fact' is, they can. It just won't be ***** matches up and down the card, or a smarks dream card. (Duh). I could get a group of friends...who you know, watch wrestling but don't 'watch wrestling' they catch it from time to time...and guess what, they can be entertained. They're not looking at 'oh, his arm didn't look like it was in the right spot when he took that bump! He sucks!'. Or 'that match didn't have any chain wrestling...automatically crap'. (And yes, I know those statements were out there...but whatever, you get the point).

The WWE booking Edge/Benoit is funny, cause by the time they have their "big blow off", no one will care (well, as evidenced by the cage match, no one does) because they will already have given the fans the matches a dozen times over. If this lead up to an "I Quit" match, then that would be worth it... but I doubt it will.

But I think it's become sort of evident that the 'big feud/blowoff, whichever' will NOT be about Benoit/Edge, but it's one of those Edge...'self conflict' things. It's all about 'Why the fuck do I keep losing!?', and not 'Why the fuck do I keep losing to Benoit!?'. Hell I think there's a chance of him even winning the title soon, and that will be his 'triumphant victory'. Not, beating Benoit. So, there's a chance that whatever the blowoff for Edge may be...it won't be against Benoit. So if it's not, why shouldn't they have the match...well...on RAW for instance.

And personally, of course this is just my opinion, but I like the way they're doing the Edge thing so far. And I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing Christian like temper tantrums soon..

Okay if 20 guys in the ring can't put HHH over the top rope I'm going to be pretty pissed at the stupid booking. HHH HAS to lose the title next week and then win it back at New Year's Revolution. Anything else at this point would just be retarded.

100% agreed.
