Cup Throwing Warrior Identified

Recommended Posts

Anyone surprised?

John Green, of West Bloomfield, was caught on tape throwing his cup of beer onto Indiana Pacers player Ron Artest, Local 4 reported. The act sent Artest into a rage in the stands, where players and fans then fought during the game between the Pistons and the Pacers.

Local 4 learned that Green has a criminal history, which includes the following offenses:

2003 -- Operating under the influence of liquor/operating while visibly impaired (second offense)

1989 -- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder

      1989 -- Escape from prison

      1986 -- Carrying concealed weapons

1986 -- Uttering and publishing, which is using a false, forged, altered or counterfeit record, deed or instrument to injure or defraud.

They showed a different angle of the Cup Throw of Dispair on Sports Center and it was pretty clear that this was the asshole that threw it. Naturally, he's getting his season ticket revoked. Expect this guy to get slapped with something (though, most likely, its going to be a low count assault charge)

I don't think it matters if this guy has a record. It could've been thrown by an 8 year old girl, the result is still the same, Artest goes into the stands. I don't see much budging on David Stern's part, no matter how many different ways this situation is spun.

^ that brings up a funny question, now what do you suppose woulda happened if it was an 8 year old and Artest ran into the stands, only to be faced with an 8 year old girl (coulda been a soda, the liquid was clear as i recall). Would he just stop? Would he throw her to the ground yelling "did you do it!? did ou do it!?"

I found it funny that he kept denying it was him, stating that he was being kicked down to the ground for no reason, when video evidence proved:

1. It WAS him.

2. He kept sucker-punching Artest in the back of the head (when Artest was involved with the other fan) until fans and players stopped him.

3. He started fighting those who tried to stop him.

please, He's from Detroit. He'll settle for 15 minutes of airtime on ESPN and free snow tires.

The thing is, NOBODY can defend this guy. There aren't lame excuses he can hide behind, no commentators or ex-players who will come to his defense, this guy is fighting this battle alone and he will lose.

The guy has one arrest in 15 years, and judging by how old he looked on the video most of the offenses are from when he was relativly young (teens/early 20s is my guess) so it's not like he's a career criminal or anything.

He isn't allowed to drink alcohol because of some sort of probation. He was obviously drunk during the game.

No, that still doesn't make it right for Artest to beat up an innocent dude, but I just wanted to point it out.

I'm glad you brought that up. It's the probation violation, and not the beer throwing, that'll get this guy in trouble.

Snow tires will do you no good when you go over a massive pothole on the Lodge. I think you'd have to go for the NBA paying for all car repairs for a year.

Yeah, the Lodge is fucking rough, snow tires wouldnt do you good at all, you could be driving a fucking tank and the potholes would still bitchslap any motor vehicle.

The dude in black will settle for a visit to Eminem's house and lifetime season tickets to all the Detroit teams sans the Shock

Just wanted to point out that you can see Green trying to stop him here.

Since we aren't his brain (which was probably wasted), and considering moments later he sucker punched Artest in the side of the head about 10 times, I'm assuming he thought Artest was coming to fight him.

Tried to stop him, my ass. Unless you live under a rock, you've seen the clip, and you can see him *sidestep* Artest and allow him to go by.

And I really am trying as hard as I can to be unbiased as it relates to this, but it's clear as day if you watch the clip.

I dunno about the word "sidestep" though. He kind of watches him come up, I guess expecting him to throw the punch at him, but as soon as he runs by to the other guy, Green is grabbing him from behind.

Well, it wasn't like he leaped out of the way or anything, I should have clarified that. You can see him move just enough to ensure that he's out of the way, though.

This reminds me of the Giants/Chargers game, where fans were throwing iceballs at the Chargers sidelines and the video was put on every news program across the country with the guy clearly throwing the iceballs with a smirk on his face, and the idiot still denied it when charged.

I remember that. The fucker knocked a Giants assistant coach out cold with an ice ball. Stupid asshole.
