Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 Was he really? Well it would have sorta made sense with Bulldog there but still and then we would never have seen the AWESOME shockmaster debut.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2006 Anvil was gone from WCW by July of that year, and was never going to be in the War Games. It was meant to be Hawk, but that deal fell apart, hence the Shockmaster being put in the match.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Andre the Giant was hyped as making his return to WWF at the 1991 Royal Rumble, as late as two weeks before the event according to a Toronto newspaper. What happened to nix him from the event? Not in wrestling condition?

What happened to nix him from the event? Not in wrestling condition? I think it could have been when he had his knees operated on. He appeared a couple of times that year on TV with crutches. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 I stand corrected, Hogan actually worked three house shows in March of '93. He teamed with Beefcake all three times, twice against the Beverly Brothers and once against Money Inc. This from cawthon's site
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 I know Beefcake and Hogan vs. The Beverlys was on a home video release (Grudges, Grunts and Gripes), may very well have been one of those two. What was the storyline behind Tugboat turning heel and joining Quake?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 No storyline. Tugboat had just come back from an injury, was teaming with the Bushwhackers in a 6-man tag against Earthquake and the Nasty Boys, and turned on his partners toward the end of the match.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Didn't he give a promo afterwards...something about being mad at Hogan?
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted July 21, 2006 From wrestlingclassics.com: The Wrestling Observer newsletter that came out right after the Backlund-Sheik match stated that the original plan was for the IS to hold the strap until summer, then drop it to Sgt Slaughter (this must be before the WWF resigned Hogan). Even more interesting, the possible site of that match was going to be Shea Stadium. Imagine the difference in the wrestling world if that happened!
Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Well before they signed Hogan it made sense - I'm just glad they didn't go with that. I forget what Slaughter even did after Hulkamania took off, he wasn't at a WM or anything - where did he go? what did he do?
JimmyHendricks 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Didn't he give a promo afterwards...something about being mad at Hogan? I can remember Jimmy Hart introducing him as "Typhoon" on Prime Time Wrestling (when they had the studio audience).....he basically gave the same promo that Crush would give on Savage in 94, which was that when Earthquake hurt Hogan, he (Tugboat) called him every day, but when Earthquake took him out (right before SS, leading to Bossman in Hogan's corner), Hogan never called him. I can specifically remember him using a prop phone and smashing it. Probably something about the fans not writing him letters in there, too. Of course, coming back and teaming with the guy who hurt you makes little sense, but oh well. Like I said, Crush did the same thing when he turned heel, blaming Savage for not saving him when Yokozuna gave him like, 4 banzai drops--and then siding with Mr. Fuji as his manager. Huh? With that in mind, does anyone know WHY Tugboat was taken out of Hogan's corner at SS 90 and replaced with the Bossman? It was a pretty "meh" role, and they didn't really play up Earthquake injuring Tugboat, just replacing him with the Bossman. Hogan really DIDN'T say anything, so "Typhoon" was correctly pissed. Were they planting the seeds for a change to Typhoon?

I forget what Slaughter even did after Hulkamania took off, he wasn't at a WM or anything - where did he go? what did he do? There was some kind of contract dispute in late 1984 . . . he went on to do GI Joe and then the AWA.

Were they planting the seeds for a change to Typhoon? He was quite a schmuck. I wouldn't be surprised if Vince took him out because Vince or Hogan thought he was hurting Hogan's stature. Bossman was way cooler in the fans' eyes, that's for sure.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Yeah...they tried to play off Tugboat as Hogan's new buddy and sometime tag team partner, but I don't think he really caught on with the fans. He was kind of seen as a fat, less cool version of Brutus Beefcake. Also...Crush's heel turn never made sense to me. He blamed Randy Savage, but I don't remember those two ever really being presented as friends, or even them teaming up even one time. Just seemed like Crush was blaming a completely random person. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 He brought up a "friendship" with Savage and then went off on Savage for never calling or visiting him in the hospital following Yoko's bonzai attacks. Basically it came off as Fuji was in his ear poisoning his mind.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Crush had a right to be pissed. Savage kinda stayed there going DURRRRRR............while Crush got squashed by Yokozuna. And after the 4th one, THAT's when Savage decided to do something about it.

But Hogan did eliminate Tuggy in the rumble of 91 so maybe that was a prob too sorry I never saw his explanation promo I just saw the superstars match (didnt really watch PTW then cuz it was on at night and my parents wouldnt let me watch their tv at night lol)

I forget what Slaughter even did after Hulkamania took off, he wasn't at a WM or anything - where did he go? what did he do? He was in the AWA on and off, along with the cartoon stuff, until going back to the WWF and becoming the Iraq sympathizer. They invented a belt for him, the Americas title I believe, similar to the Intercontinental belt. His act got stale, they should have turned him heel, like the pre-Iron Sheik feud character and Mid-Atlantic heel, but put him in ridiculous stuff like training Greg Gagne and boring feuds with the likes of Colonel Debeers. I've read they were about to put the world belt on him but the WWF signed him to stop that, then the war broke out and they found themselves another heel. I don't know how accurate that is. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Wasn't Slaughter fired from WWF the first time, for trying to unionize the wrestlers? Vince got wind that Sgt was trying to organize a union of some kind and fired him. He went to the NWA/AWA thing, not sure what it was called, where he was pushed as the top star. The problem came when Sgt realized how over he was and got lazy and started doing as little as he could to get by. Fans were already unhappy with him coming in and getting pushed ahead of their favorite wrestlers, so Sgt getting lazy just made things even worse.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted July 28, 2006 His Kuwait angle in 1991 was so controversial that Vince McMahon had to move Wrestlemania VII from the L.A. Olympic Stadium to the L.A. Sports Arena, in fears that somebody would shoot him in the open stadium. That is a fact from IMDB.com about Sgt. Slaughter. HAHAHAHa. I think it came straight from Vince McMahon himself.
