Let's see...

1. Raven

ECW's top heel for a long period of time. Generally the greatest and most enduring character ECW produced.

2. Sabu

People forget that back in 1994, Sabu was the biggest name in indy wrestling history, and could almost match any wrestler in the big 2 in terms of name value. His frequent trips to ECW contributed greatly to their popularity, and one could argue that his style set the tone for ECW's in ring product.

3. Terry Funk

Added a great deal of prestige to ECW.

4. Rob Van Dam

Probably the most popular wrestler in ECW history. Still popular today despite not being given much of a chance post-ECW.

5. Tommy Dreamer

The face of ECW.

6. The Dudley Boys

7. Taz

8. Shane Douglas

9. Cactus Jack

10. The Sandman

11. The Public Enemy

12. Mikey Whipwreck

13. Eddie Guerrero/Dean Malenko

(Dual entry. Their matches added more to ECW beyond simply a blood and guts promotion. Their names are forever linked as rivals because of their series in 1995.)

14. Al Snow

15. Rhino

16. 911

17. Steve Corino

18. Jerry Lynn

19. Rey Misterio Jr.

20. The Eliminators

1. Raven

-No doubt about it.....ECW's greatest character ever. He was involved in more major angles that were "first's" in professional wrestling than any other ECW wrestler EVER.

2. Terry Funk

-Terry Funk gave ECW a special feeling like no other wrestler could. Added legitimacy to ECW as well.

3. Tommy Dreamer

-Tommy Dreamer became the face of ECW after Raven and Funk were both gone. He personified everything that ECW was SUPPOST to be and WON the respect of the ECW crowds in a way that nobody expected.

4. Sabu

-Sabu was a BIG reason why the ECW grew the way it did. He was the guy that everyone heard of through magazines and word of mouth and EVERYONE wanted to see him if they already hadn't.

5. Rob Van Dam

-His popularity still lasts today even though he's been pretty much buried by the WWE simply because of the time he had spent in ECW. He was the guy that made the ECW TV title mean more than the ECW World Title during his 23 month reign that was broken when he had to forfiet the title due to injury. He was the ultimate ECW babyface and was the most popular wrestler they had in their last 2/3 years in existance.

6. Public Enemy

-This is the tag team that basically showed the world what a ECW tag team SHOULD look like. Rock was always a underrated worker and with partner Johnny Grunde took ECW by storm. They are hands down the best ECW tag team of all time as far as influence goes. People would never have gone through table on the consistant basis that they did if the Public Enemy were never on the scene.

7. Shane Douglas

-"The Franchise" was one of the most entertaining people in wrestling during his stay in ECW. He was the most open on the mic's and basically would always have something to say that at least was worth listening to. Without his throwing down of the NWA title and claiming himself the ECW champion............there would NEVER have been an ECW.

8. The Dudley Boyz

-These guys personified everything a heel should be like no other team I've ever seen before or after. They could get the "smart" fans going against them before they even realized they were "marking out".

9. The Sandman

-The guy was ECW's ICON. He WAS ECW before people even knew what that meant. Plus original gimmick was a great idea, especially because they knew there was no other wrestling company that would have the balls to recreate this gimmick.

10. Cactus Jack

-Recently on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD, Paul Heyman mentioned that Jack's "Anti-hardcore" promos were the best promos EVER in pro wrestling. I would say they are close and left a lasting impression enough to put him in my top 10 regardless.

11. Mikey Whipwreak

12. Taz

13. Eddie Guerrero/Dean Malenko

14. Stevie Richards

15. Women of ECW

16. New Jack

17. Bam Bam Bigelow

18. Jerry Lynn

19. The Eliminators

20. Tanaka/Awesome

I think everyone is overrating the Dudley's importance to ECW. They were viewed as nothing goofs until mid 97. They were squashed by the Eliminators at the first ppv for a reason. The Public Enemy, Gangstas, Eliminators and the Impact Players were all viewed as higher on the food chain by the company and fans. The only time the Dudley's were considered a main event act was during the bad times of 98 and 99. Even then, they were not viewed as the big acts. The Public Enemy, Gangstas and Eliminators were much more important in building ECW, and the Impact Players were the team that then ran with it. Paul did not even really want the Dudleys anymore, they would have stayed for much less money. They were a tired act, and were clogging up the card. To rate the Dudleys ahead of people like The Sandman, Taz and Shane Douglas in terms of importance is just ludicrous. If some of you are getting your info from the ECW dvd, trust me, the Dudleys are way too hyped in that production. They were viewed by most fans going to the shows as Balls and Axl.

Why isn't the late, great "HotStuff" Eddie Gilbert on that list??? He along w/ Tod Gordon are the ones who truely started ECW, in early 1993.

If it wasn't for Eddie Gilbert, Paul Heyman wouldn't even have a job in wrestling!

From time Paul Heyman started in Memphis all the way to ECW is thanks to Gilbert's influence!

To bad Eddie Gilbert will never get the true credit for helping put ECW on the map!

I considered Gilbert, but I have limited knowledge of the origins, and I wasn't sure how much of a hand he had, or if he was just a popular star brought to main event cards. ECW had a TON of guys like that in the early days, when cards featured stars such as Abdullah the Butcher, Stan Hansen, Kevin Sullivan, the Original Sheik, and King Kong Bundy. Ultimately, I simple felt he wasn't around long enough.

Probably because like Raven, the Dudley Boys have displayed staying power that lasts beyond ECW. The Public Enemy were useless away from ECW. Just my opinion, and that comes without having seen the dvd.

I don't see how Al Snow isn't high on everybody's list.

He was at one time BY FAR the most popular wrestler in ECW history. I mean he had entire arenas going crazy.

I considered him, but I dont remember any of his angles or matches, I just rememebr him over. Like Roadkill.

What about New Jack, this guy is extreme, and he should be on the list, no?

To me, he represents everything wrong with ECW.

I would say I considered Snow as well. I only remember his two stints with the company though as being fairly short. His first stint was a "The Snowman" Al Snow where the only thing I really remember him doing is having a great match with Chris Benoit. His second stint was with the "Head" gimmick, and it wasn't for very long as well. If this was a top 40 list...........he probably would make it.

Then people are not answering the question properly. The question was not, which wrestlers went on to succeed after leaving ECW. Just in terms of drawing fans, and how they were viewed, no way were the Dudleys ahead of many of the people that are listed below them on most of the lists. In terms of importance to ECW, not anywhere else, to rate PE below the Dudleys is insane. I remember watching PE at 3 in morning on Friday night here in Cincy, my parents should be shot for letting an eleven year old watch ECW. But, 10 years later I have not killed anyone so I guess it all worked out.

If you're ranking the Dudleys, then put in the entire clan. As for importance, they deserve ranking. Towards the latter days of ECW The Dudleys were making big stories. The 3-D became the number on tag finisher in the world. They were involved in the first flaming tables incidents (or, at least I think the first)...broke Beulah's neck. Won the Tag Titles a large number of times. They were credited with breaking up the Gangstas, The Eliminators and driving off The PE. So they deserve a ranking. Hell, if you ask me then Bubba's plancha warrants ranking on it's own.

Kido- Snow's run with the Head was gimmick was short, but he was UBER over...to the point that he got boosted to the main event within a couple of months on crowd reactions alone. Not sure how 'influencial' to ECW he was, but the run was awesome.
