Nighthawk Posted April 17, 2005 Author Report Posted April 17, 2005 I got Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space today. Besides being gay with the title, that's what I want.
Art Sandusky Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Okay, so I didn't really do that the other night. I'm downloading stuff while I'm at the local apothecary though, so I'll have impressions at some point.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 I want to listen to long, droning, shoegazing, ambient albums. If you know any that you like a lot, recommend them to me. Spacemen 3, which was Jason Pierce's band pre-Spiritualized, for one. Also, check out Galaxie 500. Go in chronological order with them.
nl5xsk1 Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Fuck Monster Magnet. I got tickets to their show at Hampton Beach Casino & Ballroom w/Motorhead, and heard that MM isn't going to play after all. So now I'm stuck with tickets to a show that I really don't want to see. And this is the 4th local show that Monster Magnet had announced and then canceled in the last year or so.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Spine of God is one of the funniest albums ever made. Seriously.
Nighthawk Posted April 17, 2005 Author Report Posted April 17, 2005 And in case anyone interprets that as an insult, it was supposed to be.
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Pink Flag is in stiff competetion with Seamonsters now. The Butthole Surfers' Locust Abortion Technician is up there, too.
The Czech Republic Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Fuck Monster Magnet. PLAGIARISM! Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Motorhead ain't worth it anymore. HHH's theme wasn't exactly earth shattering at WM.
Henry Spencer Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 London Calling was my favorite album for years. After that, it was Abbey Road. Now, I'm not sure. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Doolittle, Blonde On Blonde, The Soft Bulletin, Enter The 36 Chambers, and Odyssey & Oracle are all in contention, no doubt.

Henry Spencer Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 I fully intended to post that twice, too, so it's not a double post.
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Eskimo is currently enjoying increased circulation also.
5_moves_of_doom Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Eskimo is currently enjoying increased circulation also. Do you own the DVD as well? ...And does anyone else on these boards enjoy Tim Buckley aside from me?
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Eskimo is currently enjoying increased circulation also. Do you own the DVD as well? ...And does anyone else on these boards enjoy Tim Buckley aside from me? Not yet. The Commercial album DVD fucked me up enough for the time being. Not least because Andy Partridge is credited as playing on the new tracks! I like 'Hi Ho Silver Lining'...I've heard nothing else.

Especially when the polar bear pops up smiling and holding a bottle of Coca-Cola.
King Kamala Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 I just read that N*E*R*D broke up like a couple of weeks ago, I heard more about O-Town's breakup than N*E*RD's. What's up with that?

I know that's him singing on "Margaret Freeman" from the original album, but I wasn't aware he did anything new for the DVD release.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon of naming your favourite album now. For the longest time, it was Disintegration, but I now think it's London Calling. I listened to it for the first time in about two moths today and decided that it's my favourite, along with being fucking flawless from beginning to end.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 In order to decide which is my favorite, I should listen to nothing but Rain Dogs and Seamonsters for the rest of the week. Of course, this could end up backfiring, causing me to hate both albums. Hm. Anyway, this is a big enough breakthrough for me, as I used to never be able to narrow down an all-time favorite list to less than five.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 London Calling is top ten material, definitely. Too bad I'm not that high on their other stuff.
Nighthawk Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Posted April 18, 2005 I don't get Clash like you guys do. I mean, they're ok...
Giuseppe Zangara Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 I don't get the Clash outside of London Calling (the s/t bores me, mostly, though it's considered a classic of punk). But LC is just filled with great fuckin' songs.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 London Calling is my roommate's number one and way up there for me, too. The U.S. version of the self-titled is loads superior to the U.K. version.

I know that's him singing on "Margaret Freeman" from the original album, but I wasn't aware he did anything new for the DVD release. That might be it, then. As for The Clash, I think it's solid and I have a bizarre soft spot for 'Jail Guitar Doors' for some reason, but yeah, it's not a classic.

Seen 'em once, and it was more than enough. I skipped them when they played with Maiden, and would have skipped them in Hampton, too, by just leaving after Monster Magnet. Now I think I'll just go up and miracle my tickets to someone that's in line to buy a pair.
5_moves_of_doom Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 But what about Sandista!???????????
PLAGIARISM! Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 But what about Sandista!??????????? Never heard it. Whether your comment was sarcasm or not (no offence btw) I can't help but compare every punk album to Pink Flag. And I know what wins. In other news, an album which is certainly not in contention is Spiderland. It's good. Very good. But I don't like it half as much as anyone else seems to. Suicide is very high as far as my personal punk rankings go, and I've only had it a few weeks.
Henry Spencer Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 My punk rock obsessed friend insists that if you cut Sandinista! down to one disc with the choice songs, it's the perfect album. The prospect of listening to the whole thing several times in order to do so is one that I am not willing to face, so has anybody here done it?
