Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2005 She's not my friend, unfortunately, but a friend of a friend. I'd love to meet her whenever I go back to Illinois though, since I'll be seeing Karthik most likely.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2005 That reminds me... I came across a pic on a porn site of a chick that looked a lot like Kylie Minogue, but it made me think of Kotz and thus quashed my desire to pleasure myself. No offense to you, Kotz, but it just would've been weird and disturbing had I continued after that. Now, back to your regularly scheduled music related discussion. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2005 I tried to listen to the Killers' album yesterday to appease a friend and give it a fair shake, but I couldn't get past track 8 and listened to Disco Volante instead. Sorry, friend.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2005 The Killer's Hot Fuss is a good album that was worth the $8.99 I paid for it, but it does drop off a fair amount toward the end.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2005 Who here can sing all the lyrics to Billy Joe's "We didn't start the fire"? I salute those who can, that song is hell to try and memorize.

Guest Derek Bailey Report post Posted May 9, 2005 I've decided that my most hated thing in music is bands who clearly think that they're the epitome of funking danceable grooviness when they're actually shit. See: The Faint. Also, I think I'm going to buy a harmonium, a synthesizer (probably a low-level Korg), and a variety of oscillators/tone generators. I have nothing better to do with my time or money. What other random instruments or sound-making devices should I purchase?

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2005 It's the worst girl pop album I own besides Vicky Beckham's s/t, but it's fairly enjoyable.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2005 What other random instruments or sound-making devices should I purchase? Get one of the megaphones like cheerleaders used to have. And a didgeridoo. I love those things.
Guest Derek Bailey Report post Posted May 9, 2005 I tried to play a didgeridoo before. I failed. I don't think my mouth is big enough.

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2005 I want to amend my assesment of Autobiography, because "worst" makes it sound bad, but that's compared to pop masterpieces like the first two Spice albums and Stripped. I was actually pleasantly surprised, the way people talk about her like she's a joke. This is one of the cases where it's not deserved at all. Musically it's closer to fringe pop like Avril or Pink, and she's certainly not as good as either of them, but it's a fun album. I'll defend the bitch's talent any time you like. Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted May 9, 2005 You pretty much summed up my feelings on Ashlee Simpson, as well. I couldn't have put it that well, though. Don't care for the Spice Girls, for the record, but Stripped was pretty damn good. I've been playing the hell out of Circa Survive's first LP, Juturna. I'm really, really enjoying it. I don't know how I'd describe it, though. Self described as "Indie/Alt/Experimental", which I could agree with. Anyone who's heard Saosin will recognize Anthony Green's voice, as this is his new band. I don't know if anyone hear would like it, but they can preview a few of their tracks here. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 What's the deal with the Killers, anyway? Are they like the new hot band? Some high school band geeks I know just can't shut the hell up about them.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I tried to listen to the Killers' album yesterday to appease a friend and give it a fair shake, but I couldn't get past track 8 and listened to Disco Volante instead. Sorry, friend. You heard Bungle's s/t or California yet? California, yes. I really, really like it. Way easier to just hop into than Disco Volante. Not sure if it's qualitatively better, but it's very, very good at least. What's the deal with the Killers, anyway? Are they like the new hot band? Some high school band geeks I know just can't shut the hell up about them. They're at a weird juncture: they've gone as high as 7 on the Billboard charts, are hovering somewhere around there now, have sold 2 million copies-plus mostly on the strength of "Mr. Brightside," yet still have a sort of scenester college-rock cred with the kids. The only other recent rock album that's stayed that high on the charts for that long is Green Day's, so I guess they do fit "hot new band."
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Listened to OK Computer for the first time. It got a "Wow, that was pretty cool." out of me, but Aquemini is still better. Outkast remains the best band of the 90s in my mind, having eaten the best Radiohead have to offer.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I like Kid A better. "The Tourist" and "Subterranean. . ." just feel like they drag on and on and on. I skip "The Tourist" and just end it with "Lucky."
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I also prefer Kid A. As it came out in 2000, it doesn't enter into my 'best of the 90s' consideration, though. Probably edges out Stankonia, actually.
